From the Principal’s desk…

Welcome to Week 3!

Last Friday, we held our annual school

swimming carnival. I was impressed with

those students who got in and did their best all

day. It was an extremely hot day, so well done

to staff, students and spectators! It’s always

wonderful to see our older students hop in the

pool to assist our younger students in their

races. This is the beauty of being in a central

school. Congratulations to those students who

were age champions and congratulations to

Wilga who were the winning house team.

Those students in primary who qualified to

compete at the Lower Lachlan Swimming

Carnival in Week 5 received an information

note this week.

We are currently finalising our 2018-2020

school plan. We look forward to sharing it

with our whole school community later this

term.

We are excited to continue our Learner Driver

program in 2018. Janene Richards from

Condobolin will continue to come out a

number of times each term to work with our

students. We now have 11 students who have

their Learners drivers licence.

The first P & C meeting for 2018 will be on

Thursday 22nd February at 2pm. We would

love to see as many school community

members there as possible. All are welcome

and encouraged to attend!

Until next week,

Terrie Payne

UCS YUM BIG CHANGES

Lots of changes in 2018! K-6 are all involved in gardening and cooking this year!

Every week we will be cooking for the community and the school (using our produce from the garden).

We will continue our recess specials, just healthier.

Deliveries will continue (please contact the school if you would like to be on our list) and as an added bonus we will have vegies at the Post Office

from approx. 10.15am until 3.30pm every Thursday.

NEWS

Week 2, Term 1.

Library days for this year will be:

K/1/2 – Friday

3/4 – Tuesday

5/6 - Monday

Mrs Lisa Payne has asked for expressions of interest for any Year 5 students who would like to be involved in the Year 5 Leadership program for this year. Notes have been collected and the lucky students will be informed next week.

Yr 5/6 Homework. Year 5/6 will take a folder home every Monday with their spelling words, times tables work (their own choice) and their home reader book. Home reading is incredibly important and it is important for students to read at least 15 minutes a day. On Mondays students can borrow books from the library they would like to read for home readers or they can choose to read their own books. Reading can include magazines, papers and on-line articles not just novels. The folders will be collected on Friday and sent home again on Monday. If your child reads over the weekend then record those days when they bring their folder home. If you have any questions please contact Mrs James.

Happy Birthday to: Sam McClintock 20th February

English News

Year 7/8 Today Yr 7/8 were handed out English Homework books. They are just some revision of grammar rules in practise for NAPLAN. Students are required to complete ONE page each week. This is to be handed in on Thursday. It should only take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Students also have an assessment task due

Thursday Week 10. This is a research task

where students will research a true survival

story. Students will have some time in class to

work on this but they will also need to use

home time to continue to work on this project

to ensure that it is completed to the best of

their ability.

Year 9/10 Students have received their assessment task for this term. They are writing a narrative in the Science Fiction Genre. We have spent time in class defining this term and all students are aware of what they need to do for this task. There will be very little time in class given to work on this task. Please ensure that they are working on this project each week and do not leave it until the last minute to work on it. Please note : Students have until Week 10 to complete their assessment task for this term. If they say they have no homework for English, this is not true. They need to continuously work on their assessments. If you have any questions about what is expected please feel free to contact me at school.

Mrs Cooper.
