Principal: Mrs Terrie Payne Condobolin Rd, Ungarie NSW 2669 Ph: (02) 69 759 030 Fax: (02) 69 759 157 Email: [email protected] Web: www.ungarie-c.schools.nsw.edu.au
From the Principal’s desk…
I hope all students and families enjoyed the long
weekend and are relaxed and ready for the last four
weeks of term. After two weeks away it is great to
be back at UCS, although I’m not enjoying this cold
weather after being in the sunshine! A big thank
you to Mr Dodhy who filled in for me while I was
away. I know he enjoyed his time as Relieving
Principal.
Semester One reports are well on the way to
completion. Reports will go out during the last
week of school.
Well done to those students who competed at the
Western Area Cross Country in Geurie yesterday.
A special congratulations to Jack Crofts who
finished 2nd and Hugh Williams who finished 4th in
their age groups. The boys will now compete at the
State Cross Country in Sydney. What an
outstanding effort!
Good luck to the primary boys and girls basketball
teams who will play in West Wyalong tomorrow.
Thank you to Mr Cattle for organising the
excursion.
Next week the majority of our Years 7-12 students
will be travelling to Melbourne to spend the week
exploring the city. I know there are many of our
students who have not been to Melbourne before
so this will be a fantastic opportunity for them to
experience life outside Ungarie. The students and
teachers are all extremely excited about the
week ahead. Don’t forget to pack a warm jacket as
it is going to be cold in Melbourne!
There are strict transport rules and guidelines that
our bus owners and drivers must follow. Parents
must contact the bus drivers if there is a change in
routine for your children. You must also gain prior
approval from the bus driver if there will be extra
children on the bus. The drivers are well within
their rights to refuse to transport extra children if
this permission is not sought. Correct procedures
must be followed to ensure the safety of our
students.
Mr Dodhy and our Year 12 students are travelling
to Dubbo today for a HSC Mathematics study day.
I’m sure it will be a valuable experience for them as
they prepare for their HSC examinations later this
year.
Today is our first P&C meeting for the term as the
first meeting was cancelled due to lack of numbers.
I encourage all parents and interested community
members to attend these meetings as important
decisions are made around education and
opportunities for our students.
Finally, I would like to extend a warm welcome to
Jalen Hurley. Jalen is our new Secondary Student
Learning Support Officer and will be working from
Monday to Thursday each week. Jalen has recently
finished college in the USA and is an avid
basketballer. Our students are enjoying some extra
basketball during recess and lunch. I’m sure
everyone will make Jalen feel welcome at UCS.
Until next week,
Terrie Payne

Last week Spelling Bee lists went out to interested
students in Years 3-6. The in-school rounds need to be
completed by the 10th of August (the end of Week 3,
Term 3). At this point (barring any issues that may arise)
the 6th of August will be the day we select the students
to go to regionals. If any students lose their lists they can
get another off their classroom teacher. Yr 3/4 will be
taking home individualised spelling lists using the
Spelling Bee words. Yr 5/6 will be using the Spelling Bee
words to supplement their spelling lists. If you have any
questions please see your child’s teacher.
Good luck to those students completing in the PSSA
Basketball in West Wyalong. Have a great day.

Valanga Khoza left South
Africa in 1976, exciled with
many other young people
because of their struggle
against apartheid. The
music and stories he has
since created reflects the
places he has been and the
people he has touched
throughout his journey
across the world as a
refugee, finally settling in
Australia. Valanga turns the
story of his life into
inspiration for the youth of
today, showing that
survival is possible within
any situation. The answer
lies within the smallest
skills and the knowledge
we possess as humans.
