Divine Mercy
Sunday
Jesus, I trust in You!
The bread and wine consecrated at
all of our Masses for Divine Mercy Sunday
and the following week were donated by
Lydia Marks
in thanksgiving for our priests
here at St. Agnes:
Bishop John O’Hara, Fr. Michael Barrett,
Fr. Robert Brisson, Fr. Francis Dasari,
Fr. William Elder, and Fr. Brian McWeeney.
What a lovely gesture!
“Christ is alive!” proclaims the Pope. Pope
Francis’s new Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Christus
Vivit calls to “all Christian young people” and the People
of God, including pastors and the faithful, and urges them
to the youthful newness of life in Christ! The Pope proposes that youth engage the joy of a
living God, the richness of their Catholic faith, and the
strength of living in Christian community. He illuminates
the Scriptures to give youth tangible hope and draw them
more fully into the Church. And in a time of new technolo-
gy and transformative social changes, the pope challenges
youth to take the grounded path of generous sacrifice and
faithful companionship with peers, family, neighbors, and
elders.
Available now
in the St. Agnes bookstore.
Divine Mercy
Holy Hour
In recognition of
Divine Mercy Sunday,
St. Agnes will offer a
Holy Hour on April 28th at 3pm.
The Holy Hour will include
Exposition and Benediction of the
Blessed Sacrament, a meditation
by Fr. Francis, and, of course,
the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
All are welcome!
Your post-Lenten practice...keep going!
St. Agnes’s pews were full for the Easter Triduum. In some cases, it was
standing-room-only! It cannot be said enough—KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Come to Mass during the week.
Make Confession a regular habit (once a month).
Consider abstaining from meat on Friday, a longtime Catholic tradition.
Spend a few minutes with the Blessed Sacrament at St. Agnes any weekday afternoon.
Read daily scripture. Mass readings can be found on the St. Agnes website.
Try something new! Shop the bookstore for a new devotion or prayer card.
Say a decade of the Rosary every day. If you can do more, great, but a decade is worthwhile.
Small habits make a Catholic practice work!
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy As we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, we especially
remember the Chaplet that the Lord gave to St. Faustina,
commonly known as the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. This
chaplet can be prayed on any Rosary, as the number of
prayers coordinate to the number of beads. Traditionally,
the chaplet is prayed at the hour of our Lord’s death, 3pm.
Here at St. Agnes the chaplet is prayed every weekday at
that time. Come join us!
Instructions for the Chaplet of Divine Mercy: Begin with the Sign of the Cross. Pray one Our Father,
one Hail Mary, and one Apostle’s Creed. Then, on the “Our Father beads,” say the following
prayer: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul
and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord
Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of
the whole world. On the “Hail Mary beads,” say the following prayer: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy
on us and on the whole world. Repeat these prayers in this same pattern until all 5
decades of the Rosary are completed. In conclusion, say the following prayer three times: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One,
have mercy on us and on the whole world.
***
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is recorded in the
book, “Divine Mercy in My Soul,” written by St. Maria
Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938) of Poland, pictured above.
First published in English in 1981, it is a well-known work
that can be purchased in the St. Agnes bookstore.
