Water Proof Rating : Mechanical Strength :

Concrete Canvas can be sealed by thermally welding PVC facestogether. The recommended method will enable one man to weld

joints at a rate of 40m/hour.

    The following equipment is required:

Hot air gun with 6mm reducer

    Pinch roller clamp

    Heavy gloves

    Damp cloth

    Mask

To thermally weld a water proof sealbetween two sheets of CC :

    1. Place the adjacent sheets with the PVC side down and overlapping

    by a minimum of 100mm

    2. Lift the overlapped sections of the sheets so that the PVC

    faces are touching (Fig.1).

    3. Clean the PVC faces on the overlap to remove any dust using a

    damp cloth.

    4. Fit the heat gun with a 6mm reducer and run it slowly along the

joint, blowing the hot air forwards and down between the two sheets

to evenly soften the PVC across 40mm of the overlap. Take care notto burn the PVC. Clamp the twin pinch rollers on either side of the joint

and push the rollers along the joint behind the heat gun to press thetwo sides together while the PVC is still soft (see Fig. 1 and Fig. 2).

    Allow the joint to cool.

    5. Once all the joints are sealed and the CC has been wetted, fold one

side of the jointed section over and weigh it down until the Canvas

    has set. (Fig.3)

Wear heavy gloves and a mask as the PVC will be hot and will

give off fumes. Only seal Concrete Canvas in a well ventilated

    area.

    Concrete Impregnated Fabric...

Concrete Canvas (CC) can be used to line any sized ditch, trench, water tank or sump. The trial below demonstrated that thermal welding

provides a water tight joint between layers of CC.

A ditch with a trapezoidal profile was excavated from a sandy

    substrate.

The platform was removed and the welded CC strips were gentlylowered onto the substrate. Subsequent layers were added to cover

the ditch entirely. Sandbags were placed on the thermally welded

joints to ensure they lay flat.

Two adjacent strips of CC were laid across the ditch on a wooden

platform. The CC strips were then thermally welded together.

The ditch was then filled and sprayed with water to hydrate the CC.After 24 hours, the thermally welded CC layers had set, providing a

water proof concrete layer to the ditch.
