The Default Linux OS InstallationBasis for Modification
The "default" kernel version must be verified

Other preliminary details:
Establish ORACLE_BASE directory
set ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_BASE
Use a custom install so these can be set:
-eliminate repository creation for DB Control
-advanced init parameters
-avoid repository schema creation
Use the release notes for the 11.1.0.7.0 patchset install:

-Select 11.1.0.6.0 database Oracle Home
-Run DBUA after patch is installed as per readme
Later, either CPU or PSU update should be undertaken to keep the installation compliant with current
Oracle standards.

RPM list for OEL4 from the Data base documentation.
Invoke the installer:
./runInstaller
The installer initially shows settings for a default enterprise edition database configuration.
Grid Control will require customized parameters to avoid creating the sysman schema.
Check the Advanced Installation radio button and Next.

The available database product components are listed, with the default components checked on the
Available Product Components screen. The Oracle Programmer component has been deselected.

first step is installation which is the copying of files into place.

After successful installation, linking and setup, the Configuration Assistants are run, and can be tracked
on the Configuration Assistants screen. First is the Oracle Networking CA, where the listener for the
database is configured. Select Next on the Welcome pop-up window to configure a listener.

Determine a name for the listener or leave the default on the Listener Name screen.
A different name can often help keep different listeners identifiable on the same host.
Select Next once the listener name has been set.

Select the TCP protocol (default) on the Protocols screen, then Next.

Select the listener port. 1521 is default, but that can be changed to the value of another available port on
the TCP/IP Protocol screen.

Enter the SID and Global Database Name in the Database Identification screen. The Global Database
Name may or may not use a domain suffix.

On the Management Options screen, deselect the default option to configure Enterprise Manager. This
Configure Enterprise Manager optioncreates the repository and web site for Data based Control, but
this function will interfere with creation of the Grid Control repository.

Set up the database passwords for the SYS and SYSTEM administrative users on the Database
Credentials screen. These can be configured to be the same or different at this time. Set the to b e the
same for the convenience of this demonstration. It is more secure to pick unique passwords for each
user, however.
Select Next when passwords and confirming values have been entered.

initialization parameters also discusses the redo log count and sizing. The addition of a fourth redo log is

Select username from dba_users;
Shows the user set created on installation using the settings shown in this document. Notice that
sysman and mgmt_view have not been created, so the database is ready for a Grid Control repository.
