Jamie and his partner, Leesa Kwok, a former parent of our school, have been in contact to request some help. Jamie and I are heading to Timor Leste at the end of the month. We'll be there for 2 weeks and will be visiting about six Catholic schools. We'd like to take donations of stationery supplies with us to give to the children we meet in the schools. Do you think there are Joey's families who would like to donate new, unused stationery items that we could take with us? Coloured pencils, crayons, textas, post it notes, stickers, writing books etc. We would need to be able collect the items by February 20 (which is World Day of Social Justice), as we are flying out on February 23. Now this might be a rush BUT, if you would like to help out, there is a collection box in the foyer. The box will be collected on Wednesday (tomorrow). Thank you in anticipation of your support.Clean Up Australian Day We have been invited to join the Alstonville Rotary Club in the Clean Up Australia Day event on Sunday 3rd March. We gather at Elizabeth Brown Park at about 9:30am and spread out around areas of Alstonville to assist in the clean up. While we know we have many busy families, this community service event is a wonderful way to instil in our young ones that caring for our environment begins with our own efforts. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Anyone intending to join us will need a hat, gloves and walking shoes. To assist with catering for the BBQ the Rotary Club would like to know numbers of people attending prior to the day. Please let the office know if you are able to join us. Jumping Joeys resumed today for 2019. Jumping Joeys is a FREE PLAYGROUP for local families which is offered here at St Joseph’s on Tuesday mornings from 9:30am to 11:00am during school Terms. This is a great opportunity to spend some time playing with your children and getting to know others in our community with young children of a similar age to your own child. Some structured activities to support early literacy and numeracy are included during the morning. All are welcome. Tell your friends and make it a regular chance to get together! (Note: this is not a child minding service, parent/carers are required to remain with their child.) Thank you to Karen Pilcher and Amanda Starkey, two of our St Joeys parents, both with a background in education, for volunteering their time to run the playgroup.

We would like to share some writing efforts….Congratulations to Grace in Stage 2. On a very cold and rainy day, Little Blue Riding Hood was making brownies for her grandma. The brownies had been cooked, so Little Blue Riding Hood put her blue jacket on and set off. Little Blue had reached the dark forest when she slipped and two of the brownies came out! Little Blue had picked herself up and she kept going. She reached the middle of the forest when a little person with a dead black coat approached her and then the person asked “Where are you going with those brownies?” they said. “To my sick grandma.” she said but before she could say anything else, the person was gone. Little Blue continued her trip. Finally she made it. So, she was going to give her grandma a hug when she noticed this hideous face and blood beside the pillow then Little Blue realised that it was a wolf! So she ran outside and home, never to come back there again. Grace Dougherty

Mrs Lyn Rowling - Wellbeing

Welcome to school for 2019!!! Time certainly hasn’t been wasted getting straight into our learning and activities around school.

For those who don’t know me, my role encompasses wellbeing, student and family support as well as social justice activities around school. I also co-ordinate LAP which stands for Learning Assistance Programme. This involves a volunteer working one on one with a student who has been matched to them which may support them socially, emotionally as well as academically. Volunteers are always welcome. You will see notices in the newsletter often from me so please take the time to read and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

STAGE PARENT REPRESENTATIVES Our school is currently seeking enthusiastic parents to be class reps. It’s not a tricky task and usually involves organising a few social gatherings throughout the year, maybe arranging a gift for a family with a new baby etc. I would love to hear from you with any questions you may have about the role. If you are interested please contact me ASAP.

MUM’S NIGHT OUT It’s on again !!! Our first Mum’s Night Out for the year will be on Friday, March 1 at the Federal Hotel. Everyone is welcome especially our new mum’s to the school. This is an informal night where we order our own meals and drinks. This is an excellent way for you to meet others from school. Please let me know if you can make it just so I can book the correct amount of tables.

Enjoy your week, Lyn R [email protected]
