Month 2015-16

PYP Grade 5 Exhibition-A session on Citations and Referencing

A s Grade 5 students are working on the Exhibition during the research process, they will access a

variety of sources, including books, blogs, internet videos and print articles. Therefore, it’s our

role to raise students’ awareness of what is academic honesty and what constitute academic

misconduct for example, plagiarism, copying another’s work. We consistently encourage and model

embracing the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile Attributes and Primary Years Programme

Attitudes.

On 4th April, 2017 our Grade 5 students attended a session on citations by our librarian Mr Sachin

Sawant and Media specialist Ms. Shriya Datar. The aim of the session was to guide students in

acknowledging, through citations and referencing, the intellectual property of others and to develop

understanding that we must not take credit for the work which is done by others.

Creating a culture of academic honesty is the responsibility of all members of the school community.

Parents also have a role to play by becoming informed of the expectations placed on students and

supporting these practices.

MYP Grade 8 Design Unit Initiated Activity

O n 10th April, 2017, we the students of Grade 8 involved ourselves in a Design unit initiated service

activity where we guided the students of Grade 5 to make an e-portfolio. This will come handy

during their Student Led Conference.

We made the students understand the process and the overall concept of Google sites. The e-portfolio is

a new concept in our school and we were the first ones to learn it. The lessons were fresh in our minds

and we were quite excited about sharing our knowledge with our juniors. I taught a girl from Grade 5A.

At the start of the lesson, she was totally unaware of the concept of e- portfolio or its purpose. I

therefore explained everything with patience and compared the traditional portfolio with the e-portfolio

and discussed the advantages. She was a very enthusiastic learner and was eager to create her own

portfolio. Overall, it was a very fulfilling venture.

MYP Grade 8 Design Unit Initiated Activity

O n 10 April, we Grade 5 went to the MYP IT lab to make our own website using Google sites.

Grade 8 students helped us understand how to make our own website. It was a very unique

idea. I had a lot of fun.
