"We are very excited that we were able to move The Root Beer Kids Triathlon venue to the Pike Lake Rec Area this year.  We have a great partnership with the YMCA on safety and the Brewhouse Triathlon organization has provided all the expertise and infrastructure to pull off a great race for all the kids.  Not to mention all the kids get a free Brewhouse handcrafted rootbeer float after they finish! It will be a great time for everyone." According to race organizer Mike Scherer.

Ages 6-8 will complete a 50 yard swim, 2 mile bike, and ¼ mile run. Ages 9-11 are challenged with a 100 yard swim, 4 mile bike, and ½ mile run. The last course for ages 12-14 includes a 200 yard swim, 5 mile bike, and 1 mile run.

The Root Beer Kids Triathlon is a fun way to get youth involved with fitness and it lets them experience a shorter version of a triathlon. The idea behind the triathlon is to give kids a unique experience while being able to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends. Last year, 11 year old Elizabeth Karakas participated in the Root Beer Kids Triathlon "It was fun. In some parts easier - like when we went downhill. I liked that when you are in the water, the lifeguards are there to show you what to do. They told me I could doggie paddle or do anything that would make me go fast!". Elizabeth Karakas is competing in this years Root Beer Kids Triathlon and has motivated many of her friends from Holy Rosary School to participate along with her.
