Estimados amigos y amigas

Es para mí un placer saludar a todo el equipo

del Club de Golf Alcanada, así como a sus

usuarios y visitantes, y sumarme a la celebra-

ción de su décimo aniversario. A lo largo de

estos diez años el Club de Golf Alcanada ha de-

sarrollado un excelente trabajo, apostando por

la calidad de los servicios, el compromiso con

la protección del medio ambiente y la promo-

ción de la oferta cultural y de ocio de su en-

torno, hechos que han posicionado al club entre

uno de los más valorados a nivel internacional.

Además, el Club de Golf Alcanada permite a sus

socios disfrutar de la naturaleza y de los paisajes

de Mallorca desde su ubicación privilegiada

junto al mar Mediterráneo, rodeado de olivos y

con vistas a la isla de Alcanada y a la sierra de

Levante. Este entorno único, junto a la benévola

climatología de las islas y la calidad y la exce-

lencia de los servicios ofertados por el Golf

Alcanada, convierten la práctica de este deporte

en una experiencia inolvidable.

Para el conjunto de las Illes Balears es muy

importante la existencia de una oferta turística

amplia y variada a lo largo de todo el año. Por

ello, quiero destacar la contribución de los clubs

de golf que, como el Golf Alcanada, con sus

atractivas propuestas, permiten a los amantes

de este deporte disfrutar de la práctica deportiva

a la vez que aprovechan la amplia oferta lúdica,

cultural y gastronómica que les brinda la isla de

Mallorca, contribuyendo a la desestaciona -

lización del turismo en las Illes Balears.

Finalmente, quiero felicitar al Club de Golf

Alcanada por su 10º aniversario y animar a

todos los amantes del golf a vivir intensamente

la experiencia de practicarlo junto al mar y a

disfrutar de las magníficas instalaciones y ser-

vicios de este excepcional club.

Dear Friends

It is a great pleasure for me to greet all the teamof Club de Golf Alcanada, and its users and vi-

sitors, and join in the celebration of its tenth an-

niversary. Over these ten years, Club de Golf Al-

canada has done some excellent work, commit-

ting to quality of service, protection of the envi-

ronment and promotion of the cultural and

leisure options available in the area surrounding

it, all of which has positioned it amongst the

most highly-valued golf clubs in international

terms.

Moreover, Club de Golf Alcanada allows its

members to enjoy the nature and scenery of

Mallorca from its privileged location beside the

Mediterranean Sea, surrounded by olive trees

and affording views of the island of Alcanada and

the mountains of Sierra de Levante. This unique

setting, along with the benevolent climate of the

islands and the quality and excellence of the ser-

vices offered by Golf Alcanada, turns golfing into

an unforgettable experience.

For the Balearic Islands as a whole the existence

of a broad-reaching, varied range of tourism ser-

vices throughout the year is extremely important.

Which is why I would like to highlight the con-

tribution made by golf clubs which, like Golf Al-

canada, through their attractive proposals, enable

enthusiasts of this sport to enjoy playing at the

same time as they make use of the wide spectrum

of recreational, cultural and gastronomy options

offered to them by the island of Mallorca, thus

contributing to the deseasonalization of tourism

in the Balearic Islands.

Finally, I should like to congratulate the Club de

Golf Alcanada on its 10th anniversary and en-

courage all golf enthusiasts to live out the intense

experience of practising their sport beside the sea

and enjoying the magnificent installations and

services of this exceptional club.

Verehrte Freunde

Es ist mir eine Ehre, das komplette Team des

Club de Golf Alcanada sowie seine Mit -

glieder und Besucher zu begrüßen, und mich der

Feier des zehnten Jahrestages anzuschließen. Im

Laufe dieser zehn Jahre hat der Club de Golf

Alcanada eine hervorragende Arbeit geleistet,

indem auf Qualität der Leistungen gesetzt wurde,

auf Verpflichtung gegenüber der Umwelt und

Förderung des Kultur- und Freizeitangebotes im

Umfeld, Tatsachen, die den Club als einen der

international geschätztesten positioniert haben.

Der Club de Golf Alcanada ermöglicht seinen

Mitgliedern außerdem, Natur und Landschaft

Mallorcas aus seiner privilegierten Lage am Mit-

telmeer zu genießen, umgeben von Olivenhainen

und mit Blick auf die Insel Alcanada und Sierra

de Levante. Dieses einzigartige Umfeld im Zu-

sammenspiel mit dem wohlmeinenden Klima der

Inseln und der Qualität und Vorzüglichkeit des

durch den Golf Alcanada angebotenen Service,

machen die Ausübung dieses Sportes zu einem

unvergesslichen Erlebnis.

Für die Gesamtheit der Balearen ist das Vor -

handensein eines ganzjährigen, umfassenden und

abwechslungsreichen Touristikangebotes sehr

wichtig. Aus diesem Grunde möchte ich den Bei-

trag der Golfclubs hervorheben, wie den des Golf-

clubs Alcanada mit seinen reizvollen Angeboten,

die es den Liebhabern dieses Sportes ermög -

lichen, die sportliche Praxis ebenso wie das weit-

läufige Spiel-, Kultur- und Gastronomie-Angebot,

das ihnen Mallorca bietet, zu genießen, und die

zur touristischen Saisonentzerrung auf den

Balearen beitragen.

Zum Schluss möchte ich dem Club de Golf

Alcanada zu seinem 10. Jubiläum gratulieren und

alle Golfliebhaber auffordern, die Erfahrung des

Golfspiels am Meer intensiv zu erleben und die

hervorragenden Einrichtungen und den Service

dieses außergewöhnlichen Clubs zu genießen.

“El futuro es de aquellos que creen en la bel-

leza de sus sueños”. Esta cita refleja

perfectamente la historia del Club de Golf Al -

canada. Dicha historia también empezó con un

sueño. Mi sueño.

La idea de construir un campo de golf en Mallorca

surgió en 1985 durante una cena con el que hoy

es el presidente de mi club, Don Federico Knu-

chel, que igual que yo es un apasionado del golf.

E igual que yo, el Sr. Knuchel se entusiasmó in-

mediatamente con el proyecto.

Solamente tres semanas después de nuestra con-

versación, el Sr. Knuchel me comunicó que había

encontrado un terreno adecuado en el norte de la

isla. Y no podía haber encontrado nada mejor. La

zona de Alcanada con su suave y arbolado terreno

y su situación única a orillas del mar me conven-

cieron al instante.

Sin embargo, desde la compra hasta la primera

palada transcurrieron 13 años hasta que se con-

siguieron todas las licencias para la construcción

del campo de golf. Contraté al arquitecto de cam-

pos de golf de renombre internacional Robert

Trent Jones Jr., porque sabía que tenía la ca -

pacidad de integrar armoniosamente un campo

de golf en el paisaje.

Finalmente, el 1 de octubre de 2003 se inauguró

oficialmente el Golf Alcanada y desde entonces

se ha convertido en un verdadero referente en

cuanto a oferta de golf en Europa. Durante los

úl timos cinco años, la revista “Golf Journal” ha

elegido al Club de Golf Alcanada como el campo

de golf preferido de Europa.

Este elogio es sobre todo mérito de los más de 30

empleados, de los que estoy muy orgulloso y que

se encargan de que el campo siempre presente su

mejor estado.

Haré todo lo que esté en mi mano para que el

Club de Golf Alcanada siga siendo en el futuro lo

que ya es para muchos jugadores visitantes: un

campo de golf de ensueño.

“The future belongs to those who believe

in the beauty of their dreams”. This

quotation reflects the history of the Alcanada

golf club very well. Because it too began with

a dream. My dream.

The idea of building a golf course on Mallorca

came into being in 1985 at a dinner with the

man who is now my club president, Mr. Fede-

rico Knuchel who, like me, is a passionate gol-

fer. And like me, Mr. Knuchel was immediately

enthusiastic about the scheme.

Three weeks after our conversation Mr. Knuchel

informed me that he had already found a suit-

able piece of land in the north of the island. And

he really couldn’t have found anything better.

The Alcanada estate, with its gentle terrain dot-

ted with trees and unique location right beside

the sea won me over at first glance.

However, it took over 13 years from the pur-

chase to the ground-breaking ceremony to ob-

tain all the permits for construction of the golf

course. I engaged the internationally-

renowned golf course architect Robert Trent

Jones Jr. because I knew that he was capable

of integrating a golf course harmoniously into

the landscape.

On 1st October 2003 the Alcanada golf course

was finally officially inaugurated and since then

has become an authentic reference course within

the range of golf installations available in

Europe. The “Golf Journal” magazine alone has

named Club de Golf de Alcanada the most pre-

ferred European course for the last five years.

This accolade is above all the merit of over 30

employees, of whom I am extremely proud

and who ensure that the installation is always

in the very best condition.

I shall do everything I can to ensure that Club

de Golf de Alcanada remains in the future

what it already is for countless golfers – a

dream of a golf course.

“Die Zukunft gehört denen, die an die Wahr-

haftigkeit ihrer Träume glauben”.Dieses

Zitat spiegelt sehr gut die Geschichte des Golf-

clubs von Alcanada wider. Denn auch sie be-

gann mit einem Traum. Meinem Traum.

Die Idee zum Bau eines Golfplatzes auf Mallorca

entstand 1985 bei einem Abendessen mit mei-

nem heutigen Clubpräsidenten, Herrn Federico

Knuchel, der wie ich ein leidenschaftlicher Golf-

spieler ist. Und ebenso wie ich war auch Herr

Knuchel von dem Vorhaben sofort begeistert.

Bereits drei Wochen nach unserem Gespräch

teilte mir Herr Knuchel mit, dass er ein geeignetes

Gelände im Norden der Insel gefunden hätte.

Und er hätte es nicht besser treffen können. Das

Anwesen Alcanada mit seinem sanften, baum -

bewachsenen Gelände und seiner einmaligen

Lage direkt am Meer überzeugten mich bereits

bei der ersten Besichtigung.

Dennoch: Vom Kauf bis zum ersten Spatenstich

vergingen über 13 Jahre bis alle Genehmigungen

für den Bau des Golfplatzes vorlagen. Ich en -

gagierte den international anerkannten Golfplatz-

architekten Robert Trent Jones Jr., weil ich wusste,

dass er die Fähigkeit besass, einen Golfplatz

harmonisch in die Landschaft zu integrieren.

Am 1. Oktober 2003 wurde der Golfplatz Al -

canada schließlich offiziell eröffnet und hat sich

seitdem zu einer echten Referenz innerhalb des

Golfangebotes in Europa entwickelt. Allein die

Zeitschrift “Golfjournal” zeichnete den Club de

Golf de Alcanada in den vergangenen fünf Jahren

jedes Mal zum beliebtesten Golfplatz Europas

aus.

Dieses Lob ist vor allem der Verdienst von über

30 Mitarbeitern, auf die ich sehr stolz bin und die

dafür Sorge tragen, dass sich die Anlage stets im

besten Zustand präsentiert.

Ich werde alles daransetzen, dass der “Club de

Golf de Alcanada” auch in Zukunft das bleibt,

was er für unzählige Golfspieler bereits ist: ein

Traum von einem Golfplatz.

Cuando el Sr. Hans-Peter Porsche me encargó

la dirección del proyecto del Club de Golf

Alcanada en verano de 1985, ninguno de los dos

sospechábamos que teníamos ante nosotros un

camino largo y difícil. Un camino que después de

años de gestiones administrativas y procedimien-

tos de autorización y de la obtención de todas las

licencias necesarias, no nos permitió empezar con

las obras del campo de golf hasta finales de 1998

e inaugurarlo oficialmente hasta el 1 de octubre

de 2003.

A lo largo de los últimos diez años más de

200.000 golfistas han jugado inolvidables partidas

de golf en Alcanada, al que nuestros miembros

llaman cariñosamente “nuestro pedacito de cielo”.

Pero el Club de Golf de Alcanada no es un campo

de golf muy polifacético solamente por las

po sibilidades de su juego. Gracias a este campo

de golf se ha creado un producto que enriquece

la oferta turística de la isla mediterránea de

Mallorca.

Las numerosas distinciones internacionales ob-

tenidas a lo largo de los últimos años son un

cons tante estímulo para todos los empleados de

Alcanada, no solamente para mantener el estado

del campo y sus servicios, sino para mejorarlos.

Por lo tanto, el Club de Golf Alcanada es la

prueba de que el espíritu emprendedor y la

visión, en este caso del Sr. Hans-Peter Porsche,

miembro de la conocida dinastía de empresarios,

crean productos de primera clase.

Llegados a este punto, quisiera agradecer su fi -

delidad a todos los miembros de nuestro club de

golf, pero también quiero dar la más cordial

bienvenida a nuestros futuros jugadores. Pero mi

especial agradecimiento va dirigido a nuestros

empleados, sin los que el Club de Golf Alcanada

no sería lo que es hoy en día.

When Herr Hans-Peter Porsche charged

me with the project management of

the Club de Golf Alcanada in summer of

1985, neither of us anticipated that a long,

difficult path lay ahead of us. A path that only

led us to commencement of building work on

the golf course in late 1998, after years of

dealing with authorities and authorization

procedures and obtaining all of the necessary

permits, and finally to the official inaugura-

tion on 1st October 2003.

Over the past ten years more than 200,000

golfers have already played unforgettable

rounds of golf at Alcanada, which is lovingly

described by its members as “our little bit of

heaven”. But Club de Golf Alcanada is not

only an exceedingly versatile golf course with

regard to its playing possibilities. With it a

product was created, which enhances the

range of tourism services available on the Me-

diterranean island of Mallorca.

The numerous international distinctions the

club has received in past years are a constant

incentive not only to maintain the quality of

maintenance and services, but also to im-

prove them for all the employees working in

Alcanada.

Club de Golf Alcanada therefore clearly de-

monstrates that entrepreneurial boldness and

vision, in this case those of Mr. Hans-Peter

Porsche, a member of the famous entrepre-

neurial dynasty, give rise to first-class pro-

ducts.

At this point I should like to thank all the

members of our golf club for their loyalty, and

also warmly welcome our future guest gol-

fers. But my very special thanks also go out

to our employees, without whom the Alca-

nada golf club would not be what it is today.

Als mich Herr Hans-Peter Porsche im Som-

mer 1985 mit der Projektleitung des Club

de Golf Alcanada beauftragte, ahnten wir beide

nicht, dass uns ein langer und beschwerlicher

Weg bevorstehen würde. Ein Weg, der uns erst

nach jahrelangen Behördengängen und Geneh-

migungsverfahren sowie dem Erhalt aller er -

forderlichen Bewilligungen erlaubte, Ende 1998

mit den Bauarbeiten des Golfplatzes zu begin-

nen. Und ihn am 1. Oktober 2003 offiziell zu er-

öffnen.

In den vergangenen zehn Jahren haben bereits

über 200.000 Golfer in Alcanada, das von seinen

Mitgliedern liebevoll als „unser kleines Stück

Himmel“ bezeichnet wird, unvergessliche Golf-

runden gespielt. Der Club de Golf Alcanada ist

aber nicht nur hinsichtlich seiner Spielmöglich-

keiten ein außerordentlich vielseitiger Golfplatz.

Mit ihm wurde ein auch ein Produkt geschaffen,

welches das touristische Angebot der Mittel-

meerinsel Mallorca bereichert.

Die zahlreichen, in den vergangenen Jahren er-

haltenen internationalen Auszeichnungen sind

für alle in Alcanada tätigen Mitarbeiter ein ste -

tiger Ansporn, die Qualität hinsichtlich des Pfle-

gezustandes und der Dienstleistungen nicht nur

aufrecht zu erhalten, sondern zu verbessern.

Der Club de Golf Alcanada ist somit ein guter

Beweis dafür, dass unternehmerischer Wagemut

und Weitblick, in diesem Falle von Herrn Hans-

Peter Porsche, Mitglied der bekannten Unter-

nehmerdynastie, erstklassige Produkte schaffen.

An dieser Stelle möchte ich allen Mitgliedern

unseres Golfclubs für Ihre Treue danken, aber

auch unsere Gästegolfer in Zukunft herzlichst

hace diez años. Desde entonces es un referen te

de golf exclusivo en Mallorca y en Europa. En

nin gún otro lugar el verde intenso de los greens y de

las calles del campo se fusionan tan armoniosamente

con el resplandeciente azul del Mediterráneo, como

lo hacen en el campo de par 72 en la bahía de

Al cudia. Y en casi ningún otro sitio, cada partida de

golf se convierte en una experiencia única que

combina un espectáculo de naturaleza mediterránea

con unas condiciones de juego perfectas.

The Alcanada golf course was opened ten

years ago. Ever since it has been a reference

for exclusive golfing on Mallorca and in Europe.

Nowhere else does the brilliant verdure of greens

and fairways merge so harmoniously with the

radiant blue of the Mediterranean Sea as on this

72 par course in the Bay of Alcúdia. And hardly

anywhere else does every single round of golf

develop into a unique experience comprised of

the spectacle of Mediterranean nature and

La historia del Club de Golf Alcanada empezó

hace casi tres décadas. Hans-Peter Porsche, miem-

bro de la familia y del consejo de la mundialmente

famosa dinastía alemana de coches deportivos,

decidió en 1985 dedicarle un monumento a su pa-

sión por el golf. Quería hacer realidad en Mallorca

su sueño de tener un campo de golf propio. Un

campo que sentaría nuevos cri terios en la hasta

entonces existente oferta de golf de la isla.

El lugar perfecto para el campo perfecto

Federico Knuchel, un empresario afincado en la

isla desde hace muchos años, se puso a buscar el

terreno perfecto por encargo del Sr. Porsche.

Después de pocas semanas lo encontró en la bahía

de Alcúdia. La ubicación única a orillas del mar y

la topografía adecuada para un campo de golf,

consistente en un terreno con suaves pendientes

y con un generoso y centenario arbolado proce-

dente de la antigua finca, convencieron a Hans-

Peter Porsche al instante.

The history of the Alcanada golf club really

began as far back as around three decades ago.

In 1985 Hans-Peter Porsche, a family and board

member of the world-famous German sports car

dynasty, made the decision to erect a memorial

in honour of his passion for the sport of golf. He

wanted to make his dream of having his own

golf course come true on Mallorca. A course that

would set new standards in terms of the golfing

opportunities hitherto available on the island.

The perfect place for the perfect course

Federico Knuchel, an entrepreneur based on the

island for many years, followed Porsche’s orders

to look for an appropriate piece of land. After

just a few weeks, he made a find in the bay of

Alcúdia. The unparalleled site by the sea and the

topography so suitable for a golf course, com-

prised of gently rolling terrain with a plentiful

population of old trees on this former estate con-

vinced Hans-Peter Porsche at a glance.

Die Geschichte des Golfclubs Alcanada begann

bereits vor rund drei Jahrzehnten. Hans-Peter

Porsche, Familien- und Vorstandsmitglied der

weltbekannten deutschen Sportwagen-Dynastie,

fasste 1985 den Entschluss, seiner Leidenschaft

für den Golfsport ein Denkmal zu setzen. Auf

Mallorca wollte er den Traum von einem eigenen

Golfplatz verwirklichen. Einem Platz, der neue

Maßstäbe im bis dahin bestehenden Golfangebot

der Insel setzen sollte.

Der perfekte Ort für den perfekten Platz

Federico Knuchel, ein auf der Insel seit vielen

Jahren ansässiger Unternehmer machte sich im

Auftrag von Porsche auf die Suche nach einem

ge eig neten Gelände. Bereits nach wenigen

Wochen wurde er auf der Halbinsel Alcanada

im Norden Mallorcas fündig. Die einmalige

Lage am Meer sowie die für einen Golfplatz

perfekte Topograhpie aus sanft rollendem Ge-

lände sowie einem großzügigen, Jahrhunderte

alten Baumbestand des einstigen Landgutes

Pocos meses después de la compra de los terrenos,

se buscó un arquitecto de renombre internacional.

Tras varias conversaciones previas, entre otras con

profesionales internacionales del golf como “Seve”

Ballesteros y Jack Nicklaus, que ya tenían ex -

periencia en el desarrollo de campos de golf a nivel

mundial, al final la elección recayó en el norte -

americano Robert Trent Jones Jr. “Nuestra idea era

construir un campo de golf que se integrara

el Govern Balear se demoró más de 13 años de-

bido a constantes cambios en disposiciones, nor-

mas y directivas urbanísticas. No fue hasta el año

1998 que se pudo empezar a construir el campo

de golf. Además del diseño de los greens y las cal-

les, para los que solamente fueron necesarios pe-

queños movimientos de tierra, hubo que reformar

Just a few months after the land was purchased,

a suitable, internationally-renowned architect

was sought out. After various preliminary talks,

among others with international golf pro “Seve”

Ballesteros and Jack Nicklaus, who already had

experience in developing golf installations all

over the world, eventually the American Robert

Trent Jones Jr. was chosen. “Our vision was to

build a golf course that would integrate perfectly

into the pre-existing landscape. And Robert

Trent Jones Jr. was exactly the right man for

this,” remembers Hans-Peter Porsche.

But a long time would pass until the ground-

breaking ceremony. It took over 13 years to ob-

tain the necessary permits from the authorities,

the island council and the regional government

because of constantly-changing standards,

norms and building guidelines. Construction of

the golf course could not begin until 1998. Be-

sides the design of greens and fairways, for

which ultimately only small earth movements

were needed, the arduous work of converting

die bereits Erfahrung im Bau von Golfanlagen

weltweit gesammelt hatten, fiel die Wahl am Ende

auf den US-Amerikaner Robert Trent Jones Jr..

“Unsere Vorstellung war es, einen Golfplatz zu

bauen, der sich in die vorgegebene Landschaft

perfekt integrieren sollte. Und dafür war Robert

Trent Jones Jr. genau der geeignete Mann”, er -

innert sich Hans-Peter Porsche.

Doch bis zum ersten Spatenstich sollte noch viel

Zeit vergehen. Das Einholen der nötigen Geneh-

migungen bei der Gemeinde, dem Inselrat und der

Landesregierung zog sich aufgrund ständig neuer

Vorgaben, Normen und Bebauungsrichtlinien

über 13 Jahre lange hin. Erst 1998 konnte mit dem

futura casa club con su restaurante, los vestuarios,

el proshop y las oficinas.

Prestando mucha atención al detalle, también se

pulió el diseño del recorrido. “Nuestra premisa

para el diseño del campo era clarísima: queríamos

un campo de campeonato, en el que ningún

jugador amateur se sintiera desbordado”, dice

Knuchel. Únicamente una idea no pudo llevarse

a la práctica. Los planos originales de Robert Trent

Jones Jr. preveían la construcción de un par 3 en

la pequeña isla del faro de Alcanada situada en la

bahía. Un proyecto al que se renunció rápi da -

mente debido al gran esfuerzo técnico que suponía.

La mayor parte de los materiales necesarios para

la construcción, como por ejemplo la fina arena

de silicio, fue transportada en barco desde la pe-

nínsula hasta el cercano puerto de Alcúdia y desde

allí trasladada hasta la obra en camiones. Los

trabajos en el terreno también resultaron ser com-

plejos y laboriosos. Para conservar el antiguo

arbolado del terreno, se desenterraron cuidado -

samente olivos centenarios y se plantaron en otro

lugar. Además, se plantaron 600 árboles nuevos.

El resultado de estos trabajos, que duraron casi 5

años, pudo por fin dejarse ver por primera vez ofi-

cialmente el 1 de octubre de 2003. El Golf de Al-

canada fue inaugurado en presencia de numerosos

representantes de la política, de la economía y del

turismo. No solamente fue un sueño cumplido

The layout of the course itself was fine-tuned

with great attention to detail, too. “Our premise

for the design of the course was clear: we wanted

a championship course where no amateur player

should feel overwhelmed”, says Knuchel. Only

one idea could not be turned into reality. Robert

Trent Jones Jr.’s original plans envisaged the buil-

ding of a short par-3 hole on the small, offshore

lighthouse island of Alcanada. An enterprise that

was quickly given up on due to the extreme

technical complexity involved.

Most of the materials needed for construction of

the course, such as the fine silicon sand, were

transported from the peninsula by ship to the

nearby port of Alcúdia, and from here to the

building site by lorry. The work on the terrain

also turned out to be complex and effortful. In

order to preserve the old tree population on the

grounds, hundred-year-old olive trees were ca-

refully dug up and planted in other places time

and again. And 600 new trees were also planted.

The result of the nearly 5-year building project

could officially be seen for the first time on 1st

October 2003. Golf de Alcanada was inaugura-

ted in the presence of numerous representatives

from the spheres of politics, the economy and

tourism. This was not a dream come true for

des Parcours gefeilt. “Unsere Prämisse für das

Design des Platzes war eindeutig: Wir wollten

einen Championchip-Course, auf dem sich kein

Amateur-Spieler überfordert fühlen sollte”, so

Knuchel. Lediglich eine Idee konnte nicht ver-

wirklicht werden. Die Ur-Pläne von Robert Trent

Jones Jr. sahen den Bau eines Par-3-Loches auf der

kleinen, vorgelagerten Leuchtturminsel von Alca-

nada vor. Ein Vorhaben, das aufgrund seines damit

ver bundenen hohen technischen Aufwandes aber

schnell wieder aufgegeben wurde.

Ein Großteil der für den Bau notwendigen Ma -

terialen, wie beispielsweise der feine Silizium-

Sand zur Füllung der Bunker, wurde mit dem

Schiff vom Festland in den nahe gelegenen

Hafen von Alcúdia transportiert und von dort

mit Lastwagen zur Großbaustelle gefahren.

Komplex und aufwendig entwickelten sich auch

die Arbeiten auf dem Gelände. Um das Land-

schaftsbild nicht zu verändern, mussten immer

wieder Jahrhunderte alte Olivenbäume vorsichtig

tinciones y premios dan fe de la popularidad del

campo incluso más allá de las fronteras de la isla.

La base del éxito es, además de la ubicación del

campo, su siempre excelente estado y sobre todo

proprietor Hans-Peter Porsche alone. Golf de

Alcanada also represented a significant, qua -

litative asset for the hitherto incomplete range

of tourism services available in the north of

Mallorca.

Today the Alcanada golf club is one of the most

beautiful and best golf installations, in terms of

conditions and service, on Mallorca and indeed

in Europe. Numerous distinctions and prizes

bear witness to the course’s popularity, well

beyond the borders of the island itself. The basis

of this success lies not only in the location of

the course and the fact that it is always in an

a new golf course in Majorca. This effort turned

out to be a joyful assignment.

scape with great variety and challenge, with sce-

nic wonders all about. Peter is an excellent golfer,

spent a lot of time crafting subtle and interesting

green complexes to test any golfer’s short game.

Of course, it’s always interesting and challen-

ging every day. It is next to the sea where the

winds blow from calm to strong across the gol-

fing landscape, adding to each and every

round’s excitement.

The course itself is not long and brutal, but

rather a series of golfing puzzles to be solved,

with a harmonious melody throughout which

Platz von Golf Alcanada zu erschaffen, eingebet-

tet in die sanften Hügel entlang des Mittelmeeres.

Es wurde am Ende ein Platz, der sich nicht nur

perfekt in die Landschaft integriert, sondern

auch jeden Spieler vor eine Vielzahl interessanter

Herausforderungen stellt.

Und das alles in einem wahrhaft malerischen

Szenarium. Peter ist ein exzellenter Golfspieler,

insbesondere rund um die Grüns; aus diesem

Grund verbrachten wir auch viel Zeit damit, raf-

finierte und interessante Grüns zu entwerfen, die

das Kurzspiel eines jeden Spielers auf die Probe

stellen.

In Alcanada ist jede Golfrunde eine neue Heraus-

forderung. Durch die Lage am Meer weht eine

ständige Brise, mal mehr, mal weniger, über den

Platz und führt somit zu stets neuen sport lichen

Szenarien.

Die Anlage selbst ist weder lang noch brutal, son-

dern versteht sich in erster Linie als eine atem-

beraubende Sammlung golferischer Puzzle -

stücke, die mit viel Harmonie und Rhytmus zu

einem Ganzen zusammengefügt werden müs-

sen. Ich wünsche Ihnen viel Spaß dabei!

¿Cómo se ha desarrollado la oferta/ el concepto

del Club de Golf Alcanada durante los últimos

diez años?

Nos dimos cuenta muy pronto que una de nues -

tras tareas más importantes era presentar nuestro

“producto golfístico” a los golfistas y miembros

de tal forma que en su próxima visita a Mallorca

ya tengan planeado venir a Alcanada. Las medidas

como la modificación del intervalo de 10 a 12 mi-

nutos en el tee de salida 1 en el 2007, la reforma

de los greens en el 2008, la renovación de los tees

de salida este verano, nuestro boletín de noticias

mensual con información y ofertas relativas a

Alcanada introducido el 2012, agua gratuita du-

rante la partida, nuestro “servicio de manzanas”

en el hoyo 10 y nuestra estrecha colaboración con

TaylorMade, son parte de esta estrategia.

¿Qué distingue Alcanada de otros campos

de golf en Mallorca y en Europa?

Bueno, nuestra situación privilegiada a orillas del

mar en un terreno sin construcciones son con

toda seguridad características exclusivas. Pero

también creo que el jugador de golf se da cuenta

de que aquí trabajamos con mucho amor por el

detalle y que conseguimos seguir mejorando

nues tra oferta y la calidad del campo año tras año.

How has Club de Golf Alcanada developed over

the last ten years in terms of offer / concept?

Very early on we realised that one of our most

important tasks consists of presenting our “golf

product” to our visiting golfers and members in

such a way that they schedule Alcanada into

their next visit to Mallorca. Measures like the

change from 10 to 12 minute intervals on tee 1

in 2007, the renewal of the greens in 2008, the

renovation of the tees this summer, our monthly

newsletter with information and offers about

Alcanada which was introduced in 2012, free

drinking water during rounds, our “apple ser-

vice” on hole 10 and also our close collaboration

with TaylorMade all form part of this strategy.

What distinguishes Alcanada from

other courses on Mallorca and in Europe?

Well, our privileged situation right beside the

sea on a plot of land without constructions is

doubtless a unique selling point. But I also

think that when golfers come here they can tell

that we work with a passion for detail and we

manage to improve our offer and the quality of

the course even more every year. And our phi-

losophy regarding service, course quality and

improvements is directly reinforced by our

Nun ja, unsere priviligierte Lage direkt am Meer

und frei von Bebauung sind sicherlich ein Allein-

stellungsmerkmal. Ich denke aber auch, dass der

Golfer bei uns merkt, dass mit viel Liebe zum

Detail gearbeitet wird und wir es schaffen, unser

Angebot und die Platzqualität jedes Jahr noch

En estos momentos nuestra filosofía de servicio,

calidad del campo y mejoras también se ve respal-

dada por la colaboración con los “Leading Golf

Courses of Spain”. Queremos medirnos con los

mejores campos de Europa.

¿Cuál ha sido para usted el mayor reto

durante los últimos diez años?

Las expectativas en cuanto a calidad del campo

y servicio, especialmente las de los muchos ju-

gadores fieles que conocen el campo desde el

2003 y que jue gan regularmente, aumenta año

tras año. Cum plir dichas expectativas y “reinven-

tarnos”, es decir “reinventar” y mejorar nuestro

producto cada año es seguramente uno de los

mayores pero también más bonitos retos del

equipo de Alcanada.

¿Qué papel juega la protección

del medioambiente para Alcanada?

La protección del medio ambiente juega un papel

importante en todos los campos de golf, dado que

viven del y con el medio ambiente. A este respecto

se han hecho bastantes cosas desde que se inau-

guró el campo en el 2003: forman parte de estas

medidas la nueva plantación de 600 árboles au-

tóctonos, un inventario de la flora y fauna para su

mejor control e identificación de posibles riesgos

medioambientales, la obtención del sello de cali-

dad / medioambiental UNE188.001 como uno de

los seis únicos campos de golf en España, las me-

joras para el uso más eficiente del sistema del

riego del campo con el fin de minimizar el con-

sumo de energía entre otras cosas. Una tarea im-

portante en cuanto a la protección del medioam-

biente es también la información y la transparen-

cia. Nosotros, al igual que todos los demás cam-

pos de golf y en contra de lo que muchos afirman,

no utilizamos agua potable para regar el campo,

sino agua depurada.

¿Cómo se desarrolla su jornada laboral?

Eso es lo bonito de mi trabajo, cada día es distinto:

organización de torneos, compra para el Pro

Shop, dirección del personal, atención al cliente,

administración, emails y estadísticas, formación

continuada, todo lo relacionado con el ámbito IT

(página web, Facebook, blog, Tripadvisor, etc.),

elaboración de ideas y mejora de nuestro servicio

y nuestra oferta, conversaciones con hoteles y

touroperadores, estrecho contacto con nuestro

jefe de greenkeepers, etc., etc., etc...

What was the biggest challenge

of the last ten years for you?

The expectations regarding course quality and

service and especially those of the many loyal

golfers who have known the course since 2003

and play here regularly, which increase from

year to year. Fulfilling them and improving

and “reinventing” ourselves and our product

every year is certainly one of the biggest and

also the most beautiful challenges for the team

at Alcanada.

What role does environmental protection play

for Alcanada?

Protection of the environment plays an impor-

tant role on all golf courses, as they live from

and with the environment. In this respect too

we have achieved a considerable amount since

the course opened in 2003 – 600 new indige-

nous trees were planted, an inventory was

made of the flora and fauna so as to be able to

monitor them better and identify any possible

environmental risks. We have obtained the

UNE 188.001 quality environment / service

seal and are one of only six golf courses in

Spain to have done so, we have made impro-

vements to implant more efficient use of the

course sprinkler system, amongst other things

to reduce energy output – these are some of

the measures adopted. Another important en-

vironmental task is clearly that of providing in-

formation and transparency. So we, like all the

other golf courses on the island and contrary

to what many people claim, do not use drinkable

water at all to irrigate the course, but sewage

water.

What is a typical working day like for you?

That’s the great thing about my job, every day is

different – organisation of tournaments, purcha-

sing for the pro shop, leadership of employees,

looking after guests, administration, e-mails and

statistics, training, everything related to our IT-

area (website, Facebook, blog, TripAdvisor etc.),

development of ideas for improving our service

and offers, talks with hotels and tour operators,

keeping in close contact with our head green -

keeper, etc., etc., etc...

Die Erwartungen in Bezug auf Platzqualität und

Service, insbesondere der vielen treuen Golfer,

spielen, steigt von Jahr zu Jahr. Diese zu erfüllen

und uns bzw. unser Produkt jedes Jahr “neu zu

erfinden” und zu verbessern, ist sicherlich eine

der größten und auch schönsten Herausforde-

rungen für das Team in Alcanada.

Welche Rolle spielt der Umweltschutz

für Alcanada?

Umweltschutz spielt auf allen Golfplätzen eine

wichtige Rolle, da sie von und mit der Umwelt

leben. Diesbezüglich wurde auch bei uns einiges

getan seit der Platz 2003 eröffnet wurde: Neuan-

pflanzung 600 einheimischer Bäume, Inventur

von Flora und Fauna zur besseren Kontrolle sel-

biger und Identifizierung von möglichen Um-

weltrisiken, Erhalt des Umwelt-/Servicesiegels

UNE188.001 als nur einer von sechs Golfplätzen

in Spanien, Verbesserung zur effizienteren Be -

nutzung der Beregnungsanlage des Platzes

unter anderem zur Energieminimierung sind

Teil dieser Massnahmen. Eine wichtige Aufgabe

bezgl. Umweltschutz ist sicherlich auch die

Aufklärung und Transparenz. So benutzen wir,

wie alle anderen Golfplätze der Insel, und ent-

gegen vieler Behauptungen, kein Trinkwasser

zur Platz bewässerung, sondern aufbereitetes

Brauchwasser.

Wie sieht ein Arbeitstag bei Ihnen aus?

Das ist das schöne an meiner Arbeit, jeder Tag

sieht anders aus: Organisation von Turnieren, Pro

Shop Einkauf, Mitarbeiterführung, Gästebetreu-

ung, Administration, Emails und Statistiken,

Weiterbildungen, alles rund um unseren IT-

Bereich (Webseite, Facebook, Blog, Tripadvisor

etc.), Ausarbeitung von Ideen zur Verbesserung

unseres Service und Angebots, Gespräche mit

Hotels und Reiseveranstaltern, Pflege eines

engen Kontakts mir unserem Headgreenkeeper

¿En qué medida se ha visto afectado el turismo

de golf en Mallorca por la crisis económica

mundial que comenzó en 2008?

Bueno, existen consecuencias positivas y nega-

tivas de la crisis económica. Así p. ej. el turismo

de golf británico ha descendido en Mallorca

durante los últimos años, lo cual seguramente

tiene que ver con la crisis y con el tipo de cam-

bio desfavorable de la libra frente al euro. Al

mismo tiempo cons tatamos que como conse-

cuencia de la crisis muchos golfistas se fijan

aún más en qué gastan su di nero y la conse -

cuencia es que en la mayoría de los casos

apues tan por calidad y servicio. También ha

cambiado la cooperación con otros campos de

golf, hoteleros e instituciones públicas locales.

Así las empresas que trabajan alrededor del

mundo del golf se han unido mucho más du-

rante los últimos años para presentar conjun-

tamente Mallorca como destino de golf.

¿Qué proyectos hay para el futuro?

El número de proyectos en Alcanada tampoco

ha disminuido después de 10 años. Mejoras en

el campo, la construcción de 2 puentes en el

hoyo 1 y 10, introducción de precios de green-

fee di námicos, ampliación de la colaboración

con los “Leading Golf Courses of Europe”, pre-

paración para la obtención del certificado me-

dioambiental ISO 14.001 son solamente algu-

nos de ellos. Naturalmente también esperamos

poder organizar un torneo PGA algún día.

¿De qué está usted especialmente orgulloso?

Aquí en primer lugar hay que mencionar a

nues tro equipo sobre el escenario y entre bas -

tidores, que después de 10 años aún está mo -

tivado para seguir mejorando nuestro campo y

nuestra oferta. Al mismo tiempo estoy/estamos

orgullosos de nuestros jugadores que visitan

nuestro campo año tras año y nos valoran regu-

larmente como unos de los mejores campos de

Europa, p. ej. en Golf Journal, en Tripadvisor

o en www.1golf.eu.

¿Por qué Mallorca forma parte de uno

de los mejores destinos de golf de Europa?

Creo que Mallorca es el destino de golf ideal, no

solamente porque ofrece campos de golf varia-

dos y hoteles adecuados para golfistas, sino que

también obtiene puntos por sus buenas co -

nexiones (vuelos de máx. 2,5 horas desde cual-

quier ciudad grande de Europa) y trayectos

cortos en la isla (22 campos de golf que están a

1 hora máxima de distancia en coche).

A ello hay que añadir que en Mallorca no sola-

mente se puede jugar al golf todo el año, sino

que además la oferta alrededor del golf, sea

gastronomía, playa y mar, compras y cultura es

muy amplia.

To what extent has golf tourism

on Mallorca been hit by the world economic

crisis that started in 2008?

Well, there are positive and negative conse-

quences from the economic crisis. For example

British golf tourism on Mallorca has been on

the decrease over recent years, and for sure this

is connected to the crisis and the Pound-Euro

exchange rate which is bad for the English. At

the same time we are seeing that as a result of

the crisis, many golfers are being more careful

of what they spend their money on and for the

most part this adds up to people placing their

bets on quality and service. And collaboration

with other local golf courses, hoteliers and pu-

blic institutions has changed too. The compa-

nies dealing in the activities complementary to

golf course tourism have drawn much closer

together in recent years, in order to present

Mallorca jointly as a golf destination.

What projects do you have for the future?

The number of projects underway at Alcanada

is just as large after 10 years. Course improve-

ments, the construction of two bridges at hole

1 and 10, introduction of dynamic green fee

pricing, developing our collaboration with the

“Leading Golf Courses of Europe”, preparing

to obtain the ISO 14.001 environmental certi-

ficate, to mention just a few. Of course we also

hope to be able to host a PGA tournament one

day.

What are you particularly proud of?

First and foremost our team, both in front of

and behind the scenes; after 10 years they are

still motivated to improve our course and ser-

vices. At the same time I am, and indeed we all

are, proud of our players, who have been visi-

ting the course for years and regularly rate us

as the one of the best courses in Europe in Golf

Journal, on TripAdvisor or www.1golf.eu, for

example.

Why is Mallorca one of the best golf travel

destinations in Europe?

I believe that Mallorca is the perfect golf desti-

nation, as not only are players offered a varied

range of golf courses and golfer-friendly hotels

here, but as a destination it also scores points in

terms of good flight connections (maximum

two and a half hours away from every big

European city) and short travel times around

the island itself (22 golf courses which can be

reached within one hour by car).

It should be added that on Mallorca not only

can you play golf all year round, but also the

range of op tions on offer around golfing, be it

gastronomy, beach and sea, shopping or culture,

is very large indeed.

von der 2008 begonnenen Weltwirtschaftskrise

betroffen?

Nun, es gibt positive und negative Folgen der

Wirschaftskrise. So ist z.B. der britsche Golf -

tourismus auf Mallorca in den letzten Jahren

rückläufig, was sicherlich mit der Krise und

dem für Engländer schlechten Geldwechselkurs

von Pfund auf Euro zu tun hat. Gleichzeitig

stellen wir fest, das viele Golfer in Folge der

Krise noch genauer darauf achten, wofür sie ihr

Geld ausgeben und dies zumeist darauf hinaus-

läuft, auf Qualität und Service zu setzen. Auch

die Zusammenarbeit mit anderen lokalen Golf-

plätzen, Hoteliers und öffentlichen Einrichtun-

gen haben sich geändert. So sind die Unterneh-

men, die rund um den Golftourismus tätig sind

in den letzten Jahren viel enger zusammen -

gerückt, um Mallorca gemeinsam als Golf -

destination zu präsentieren.

Welche Projekte gilt es in Zukunft zu verfolgen?

Die Anzahl an Projekten in Alcanada werden

auch nach 10 Jahren nicht weniger. Platzver -

besserungen, der Bau von 2 Brücken an Loch 1

und 10, Einführung einer dynamischen Green-

fee-Preisgestaltung, Ausbau der Zusammenarbeit

mit den “Leading Golf Courses of Europe”, Vor-

bereitung zum Erhalt des Umweltzertifikats ISO

14.001 sind nur einige davon. Natürlich hoffen

wir auch, eines Tages ein PGA-Turnier durch -

führen zu dürfen.

Worauf sind Sie ganz besonders stolz?

Da muss in erster Linie unser Team vor und

hinter den Kulissen genannt werden, das auch

nach 10 Jahren immer noch motiviert ist, um

unseren Platz und Angebot weiter zu verbes-

sern. Gleichzeitig bin ich/sind wir stolz auf

unsere Spieler, die unseren Platz Jahr für Jahr

besuchen und uns z.B. im Golf Journal, bei

Tripadvisor oder www.1golf.eu regelmässig als

einen der besten Plätze in Europa be werten.

Warum zählt Mallorca zu den besten

Golfreise-Destinationen in Europa?

Ich denke, Mallorca ist die ideale Golfdestina-

tion, da den Spielern nicht nur abwechslungs-

reiche Golfplätze und golferfreundliche Hotels

geboten werden, sondern auch durch gute

Flugan bindung (max. 2,5 Stunden von jeder

grösseren Stadt in Europa entfernt) und kurze

Wege auf der Insel (22 Golfplätze, die inner-

halb einer Autostunde zu erreichen sind)

punktet.

Hinzu kommt, dass man auf Mallorca nicht nur

ganzjährig golfen kann, sondern dass auch das

¿10 años Golf de Alcanada –

cuales son las razones para celebrar?

Para mi es razon suficiente para celebrar los diez

años haber estado aquí desde el principio de la

construcción y haber presenciado la evolución

del campo, y sobre todo haber podido compartir

momentos buenos y no tan buenos con todo el

equipo.

¿Cómo ha sido el desarrollo del campo

durante los últimos 10 años?

Podría hablar durante horas! Ha sido una carrera

de larga distancia donde hemos ido apren-

diendo y mejorando. El resultado es que des -

pués de 10 años el campo esta sin duda a un

nivel muy superior de calidad y dentro de otros

diez será aun mejor!

– what are your reasons for celebrating?

For me, the ten years of having been here since

construction on the course started and having

witnessed its evolution is reason enough to ce-

lebrate, and above all having been able to share

good – and not so good – times with the whole

team.

How has the course developed

over the last 10 years?

I could talk about this for hours! It has been a

long-distance race in which we have gradually

learned and improved. The result is that, after

10 years, the course is without a doubt on a

much higher level of quality, and in ten more

years it will be even better!

10 Jahre Golf von Alcanada

– was sind die Gründe für die Feierlichkeiten?

Für mich ist es ein ausreichender Grund zu Fei-

ern, von Beginn des Aufbaus an dabei gewesen

zu sein und die Entwicklung des Platzes miter-

lebt zu haben, und vor allem sowohl gute als

auch nicht so gute Momente mit dem ganzen

Team erleben zu dürfen.

Wie war die Entwicklung des Platzes

in den letzten 10 Jahren?

Ich könnte Stunden darüber reden! Es war ein

Langstreckenlauf, bei dem wir viel dazugelernt

haben. Das Ergebnis ist, dass sich der Platz qua-

litativ nach 10 Jahren zweifellos auf einem sehr

viel höheren Niveau befindet, und in weiteren

zehn noch weitaus besser sein wird.

¿De qué está especialmente orgulloso?

Sin duda de la reforma de los greens llevada a

cabo en el 2008. Era una reforma muy impor-

tante donde todo tenía que salir perfecto debido

al poco tiempo del que disponíamos. La obra

fue un éxito, se abrieron los greens para la fecha

prevista y en condiciones optimas.

¿Cuales son las características del Golf de

Alcanada en comparación con otros campos

en Mallorca/Europa?

Es un lugar muy especial y tiene una belleza

incomparable. Jugar sin escuchar mas que los

pájaros o algún barco que pasa por la bahía es

algo que nos hace diferentes.

¿Cómo se consigue tener un campo en

un estado tan perfecto como Golf de Alcanada?

¡Para mi nunca está perfecto! Pero lo inten tamos

cada día. Tanto el propietario como el presi-

dente han tenido claro su objetivo, que es tener

uno de los mejores campos de Europa. Ese es

sin duda el primer paso, por ello nuestro ob -

jetivo es presentar el campo en las mejores con-

diciones posibles día a día. Por otro lado es fun-

damental tener pasión por el trabajo, tener un

buen equipo humano y los medios necesarios.

Por suerte me encanta mi trabajo, dis ponemos

de un gran equipo y maquinaria adecuada, todo

ello hace que sea posible seguir mejorando.

¡Disfruto de ver el campo mejorar día a día, y

sufro cuando las cosas no están bien, a veces

demasiado!

¿Cree Ud. que los jugadores saben

estimar/honorar/diferenciar la calidad

de un campo como Golf de Alcanada?

¡Bueno creo que hay de todo! Pero cada uno lo

apreciará a su manera. Unos disfrutarán de la

belleza del lugar y otros de jugar en greens

firmes y rápidos, lo importante es que el cliente

se vaya satisfecho y vuelva.

¿Cuales han sido para Ud. los desafíos

más grandes para conseguir el campo

tal cómo se presenta ahora?

¡Los desafios son diarios, siempre hay algo! Sin

duda los problemas con la calidad del agua son

nuestro gran desafío, por ello el verano es com-

plicado. En un principio fue un verdadero

desafío trabajar con greens de Paspalum ya que

fuimos el primer campo en Europa y de los

primeros del mundo. Hoy en día hay más infor-

mación, mas productos pero en el 2001 era todo

muy nuevo. Trabajar con greens de Paspalum

en nuestro clima no fue sencillo.

¿Qué proyectos hay para el futuro?

En principio conseguir resolver los problemas

con la calidad del agua de riego, y seguir

Without question the alterations made to the

greens in 2008. It was a very important upgrade

where all the results had to be perfect due to the

limited amount of time we had. The work was

a success, the greens were opened up by the

date planned and in optimum conditions.

What are the characteristics of Golf de

Alcanada in comparison to other courses in

Mallorca/Europe?

Golf de Alcanada is a very special place and one

of incomparable beauty. The fact that you can

play whilst listening only to the birds or the odd

boat that passes through the bay is what makes

us different.

How do you manage to keep a course in

such perfect condition as Golf de Alcanada?

It’s never perfect for me! But we keep trying

every day. Both the owner and the president

have had a clear objective, which is to have one

of the best courses in Europe. That is definitely

the first step, which is why our objective is to

present the course in the best conditions possi-

ble day after day. It is also fundamental to have

a passion for this work, have a good human

team and the necessary resources. Fortunately

I love my job; we have a great team and suitable

machinery, all of which makes it possible to

continue improving. I enjoy seeing the course

improve every day, and I suffer when things

aren’t right, sometimes too much!

Do you think that the players know how to

appreciate / honour / differentiate

the quality of a course like Golf de Alcanada?

Well, I think there are all kinds of players! But

each one appreciates it in their own way. Some

will enjoy the beauty of the place and others

playing on firm, fast greens; the important thing

is that the customer goes away satisfied and

comes back.

For you, what were the biggest challenges for

attaining a course like the one you have now?

The challenges are there every day, there’s

always something! Without doubt the problems

with the quality of the water are our big chal-

lenge, which is why things are very complicated

in summer. At first it was a genuine challenge

to work with Paspalum greens as we were the

first course in Europe and one of the first in the

world to have them. Nowadays there is more

information, more products, but in 2001 it was

all very new. Working with Paspalum greens in

our climate wasn’t easy.

What projects do you have for the future?

Principally to manage to resolve the problems

Es war eine Qualitätsverbesserung, bei der alles

perfekt ablaufen musste aufgrund der kurzen

Zeit, die uns zur Verfügung stand. Der Umbau

war ein Erfolg, die Greens wurden zum vorge-

sehenen Zeitpunkt und im optimalen Zustand

eröffnet.

Was macht den Unterschied von

Golf Alcanada im Vergleich zu anderen

Golfclubs auf Mallorcas aus?

Es ist ein ganz spezieller Ort, von unvergleich-

licher Schönheit. Zu spielen und dabei nichts

anderes zu hören als die Vögel oder ein durch

die Bucht fahrendes Schiff, zeichnet uns aus.

Wie schafft man es, einen Platz

in so perfektem Zustand zu halten,

wie es Golf Alcanada ist?

Für mich ist er zu keinem Zeitpunkt perfekt,

doch wir versuchen es tagtäglich! Sowohl der Ei-

gentümer als auch der Präsident hatten ihr Ziel

klar vor Augen, einen der besten Plätze Europas

zu haben. Das ist zweifellos der erste Schritt, des-

halb versuchen wir den Golfplatz täglich in Best-

form zu präsentieren. Auf der anderen Seite ist es

äußerst wichtig, mit Leidenschaft bei der Arbeit

zu sein, ein gutes Team zu haben und die not-

wendigen Mittel. Glücklicherweise bereitet mir

meine Arbeit außerordentliche Freude, wir

verfügen über ein großartiges Team und ent -

sprechende Maschinen. Das alles gibt uns die

Möglichkeit, immer besser zu werden. Ich ge-

nieße es zu sehen, wie der Platz von Tag zu Tag

besser wird, und ich leide, manchmal zu sehr,

wenn die Dinge nicht gut laufen.

Glauben Sie, dass die Spieler die Qualität eines

Platzes wie dem des Golf von Alcanada zu

schätzen/zu würdigen/zu differenzieren wissen?

Also, ich denke, es ist alles vertreten und jeder

wertschätzt auf seine Weise. Einige werden die

Schönheit des Ortes genießen und andere die Tat-

sache, auf festen und schnellen Greens zu spielen.

Das Wichtige ist doch, dass der Kunde zufrieden

geht und wiederkommt.

Was waren für Sie die größten

Herausforderungen, um den Platz

im jetzigen Zustand zu erleben?

Die Herausforderungen ergeben sich täglich, es

gibt immer etwas! Zweifellos sind die Probleme

mit der Qualität des Wassers unsere große He-

rausforderung, deshalb ist es im Sommer kom-

pliziert. Zu Beginn war es eine echte Herausfor-

derung, mit Paspalum-Greens zu arbeiten. Wir

waren der erste Platz Europas und einer der ers-

ten weltweit. Heute gibt es mehr Information,

mehr Produkte, aber 2001 war alles sehr neu.

Tenemos la ilusión de albergar un torneo im-

portante en el futuro, eso sería una gran mo -

tivación para mi y para todo el equipo.

¿Qué importancia tiene la formación

de los greenkeepers?

Tiene una importancia vital porque hay que

reciclarse constantemente. Por ello anualmente

asisto al congreso de Greenkeepers aquí en

España y también en EE.UU donde participo en

distintos seminarios y se pueden ver las últimas

novedades en maquinaria etc. En esos semina-

rios coincido con gente de campos importantes

de todo el mundo y campos más modestos con

quienes se comparten experiencias e ideas que

ayudan a mejorar nuestro campo. De todo el

mundo se aprenden cosas. Intento jugar en los

mejores campos para aprender como hacen las

cosas. También viendo los torneos del tour en

televisión aprendo cosas, me fijo en la manera

de cortar, en el rastrillado de los bunkers, etc.

¡En el fondo la preparación del campo es un

arte y me apasiona!

How important is the training

of the greenkeepers?

It is of vital importance because you have to

retrain constantly. Which is why every year I

attend the Greenkeepers Congress here in Spain

and in the U.S. where I attend different seminars

and you can see the latest novelties in terms of

machinery etc. At these seminars I meet people

from important courses all over the world and

more modest courses, with whom we share

experiences and ideas which help to improve

our course. You learn things from everyone. I

try to play on the best courses to find out how

they do things. And I learn things by seeing the

tour tournaments on television, I pay attention

to how they cut, how they rake the bunkers,

etc. Essentially, preparation of the course is an

art and I love it!

Mit Paspalum-Greens in unserem Klima zu ar-

beiten, war nicht einfach.

Welche Projekte gibt es für die Zukunft?

Im Prinzip die Qualitätsprobleme des Wassers für

die Bewässerung zu lösen, und besser zu werden

auf die nachhaltigste Art und Weise. Wir haben

den Traum, in Zukunft ein wichtiges Turnier zu

organisieren, das wäre eine große Motivation für

mich und für das gesamte Team.

Wie wichtig ist die Ausbildung

der Greenkeeper?

Sie hat eine lebenswichtige Bedeutung, denn wir

müssen uns ständig erneuern. Deshalb nehme ich

jedes Jahr am Greenkeeper-Kongress teil, hier in

Spanien und auch in den Vereinigten Staaten, wo

ich an verschiedenen Seminaren teilnehme, und

wo man die letzten Neuheiten auf dem Maschi-

nensektor usw. zu sehen bekommt. Auf diesen

Seminaren treffe ich Leute von wichtigen Plätzen

aus aller Welt und von bescheideneren Plätzen,

man tauscht Erfahrungen und Ideen aus und das

hilft, um unsere Plätze zu verbessern. Man lernt

von allen. Ich versuche, auf den besten Plätzen

zu spielen, um zu lernen, wie sie arbeiten. Ich

lerne auch, wenn ich die Tour-Turniere im Fern-

sehen verfolge, ich achte auf die Art des Schnitts,

des Rechens der Bunker, etc. Im Grunde ist die

Vorbereitung des Platzes eine Kunst und sie

begeistert mich!

Los jugadores de golf son amantes de la na -turaleza, de eso no hay duda. Por este motivo

el Club de Golf Alcanada, hace aproximadamente

un año, encargó la elaboración de dos inventarios

de todas las aves y plantas existentes en el com-

plejo.

Entre otros, el ornitólogo mallorquín Maties

Rabassa elaboró un informe de 120 páginas de

todas las aves que anidan en el campo de golf.

“Durante mis visitas descubrí un total de 66

es pecies. Es maravilloso observar que en un

campo de golf se hayan establecido tantas aves

autóctonas”, explica Rebassa en la introducción

de su estudio.

También se sorprendieron los biólogos españoles

Natalí Martí, Esperança Perelló, Luis Rubén y

Samuel Pinya, que por encargo del club realizaron

una exhaustiva relación de los arbustos y árboles

que crecen en el campo de golf y alrededor del

mismo. Resultado: se catalogaron un total de 94

especies distintas. Más de la mitad de ellas pro-

vienen de especies europeas.

Ambos estudios, que actualmente están dispo -

nibles en español, subrayan el compromiso del

Club de Golf Alcanada en temas de protección

del medioambiente y consumo sostenible de

recursos.

Golfers are nature lovers, there can be no

doubt about that. For this reason about a

year ago the Alcanada Golf Club started drawing

up two inventory lists of all the native bird and

plant species found in the grounds.

Amongst others, Mallorcan ornithologist Maties

Rebassa drafted a concise, 120-page directory

of all the types of birds that nest on the golf

course. “I discovered a total of 66 species during

my observations. It’s wonderful to observe that

so many types of native birds have made their

home on a golf course,” says Rebassa in the in-

troduction to his study.

Perelló, Luís Rubén and Samuel Pinya, who

were commissioned by the club to prepare a

comprehen sive register of the shrubs and trees

growing on and around the golf course, were

also surprised. The result: a total of 94 different

types were catalogued. Over half of them

originate from European species.

Both studies, which are available in Spanish at

present, emphasize the commitment of Club de

Alcanada in the area of environmental pro-

tection and the sustainable use of resources.

Golfplatz wachsenden Sträucher und Bäume

dene Arten wurden katalogisiert. Mehr als die

Hälfte von ihnen stammt von europäischen

Arten ab.

Beide Studien, die derzeit auf Spanisch vor -

liegen, unterstreichen das Engagement von

Club de Alcanada in Sachen Umweltschutz und

nachhaltigem Ressourcenverbrauch.

cadas con estacas amarillos (obstáculo de agua

frontal) o estacas rojas (obstáculos de agua

lateral). Durante las fuertes lluvias en invierno

uno de los torrentes que pasa entre el hoyo 1

hasta el hoyo 16 se llena de agua.

…el término municipal de Alcúdia ya tuvo un campo de golf en los años 1930?El primer campo de golf de Mallorca fue in -

augurado en el año 1934 cerca del Puerto de

Alcudia, donde actualmente se encuentran ho-

teles, apartamentos, restaurantes y cervecerías.

La idea surgió del empresario Jaime Enseñat

que construyó no sólo el campo de 9 hoyos

sino también una casa club y un hotel de 15

habitaciones dobles. Además del campo y la

casa club para los miembros, el ingenioso

empre sario quiso construir un complejo de

apartamentos. Un proyecto que tuvo que ser

abandonado trás el estallido de la Guerra Civil

Española en 1936.

Durante la guerra, el campo de golf se convir-

tió en una pista de aterrizaje para aviones mi-

litares. Diez años después de la apertura del

“Club de Golf de Alcudia” no quedaba ningun

rastro de sus orígines.

dem Clubhaus etwas übrig geblieben.

arquitectos de campos de golf son unos sádicos.

Bromas aparte: jugar en Alcanada es un verdadero

course architects are sadists. But all joking aside,

playing on Aucanada is pure joy, even if the pars

are hard to come by. The course has received so

much praise that it really doesn’t need mine.

isn’t only the hardware that’s good, but the soft-
