A SPECIAL TYPE OF DFK … The PENALTY KICK

A penalty kick is awarded when a defender

commits any of the 10 DFK foulsinside their own penalty area

against an opponent *while ball is in play

*Handling the ball is an exception

GOAL AREA REQUIREMENTS

DFK or IFK given to a team within own Goal Area

Exception #1 (Defenders)

1. Ball may be placed anywhere within goal area2. All opponents must be at least 10 yards away AND

outside Penalty Area3. Ball must clear Penalty Area prior to 2nd touch

Ball is moved out to nearest point on the Goal Area Line parallel to the Goal Line for IFK

FREE KICK “RULES”

• Ball placed at point of infraction (3 exceptions)

• Ball must be stationary

• No encroachment by opponents

• DFK & IFK - ball may be kicked in any direction

• Penalty Kick – ball must be kicked forward

• Ball is in play when it is kicked and moves (and leaves penalty area if appropriate)

• No “double touch” by kicker

• Cannot score directly (first touch) against self

BALL IN PLAY VS. GOAL SCORED

Ball is “in play” when: 1. Kicked and moves AND

2. Leaves Penalty Area (if appropriate)

Goal can be scored when:3. Ball is “in play” AND

4. Ball is kicked into opponents goal AND

5. On IFK only - if ball is touched by 2nd player
