National Dear All, The National Board is looking forward to welcoming everyone to Oklahoma City on June 22 for the 76th National Convention.

We have some exciting things planned for convention. For our charitable project this year, we have selected The Children’s Center in Bethany, Oklahoma. As many of you know, The Children’s Center was the National Memorial fund recipient in 2007. The Children’s Center cares for children with special needs and they have many items to choose from if you wish to bring something to contribute at the workshop on Friday.

We will also be clipping coupons for Troopon – Coupons for Troops. So, collect any coupons you will not be using and bring them to convention. Vice President Joan Gordon will be leading us again this year in this effort.

“Friday Night Lights” is our Friday evening event. We encourage you to dress in your favorite sports themed attire – football, softball, baseball, soccer, whatever you would like. After our programs ends, we will be playing bunco. No prizes – just some fun and great conversation with old and new friends.

Stay tuned for information on the Thursday evening options in the June JANUES.

Looking forward to seeing you –

Michelle Joan Sharon Pattie Sally *Please copy all of the National Board on any correspondence. Contact information is located near the end of the JANUES.

Since the National Board has no fund raisers we will be holding a drawing at convention. For a $5.00 donation, your name will be entered into a drawing, or for $20 your name can be entered five times. If your name is drawn you have the choice of one of the bracelets. You do not have to be present to win. Contact any national officer for a chance. LEFT: Rustic Cuff - Set of 4 bracelets. RIGHT: Brighton bracelet.

May 2018 Karen Lutke, Reporter

After the coldest April recorded in Oklahoma, we finally received some rain. May is such a busy month with Mother’s Day, end of School activities, Graduations and upcoming June brides. Plus, in our family, we have 6 Birthdays (Happy Birthday, Sis- Jan Brady)!

Gail Barnett is chairing our 2018 Scholarship Committee. I know we will have some great applicants to choose from. Susan Gleason, daughter of Randy and member Sara Gleason, will graduate on May 11 from the OSU Veterinary School. Susan plans to move to California to practice for the next few years. Congratulations, Susan!

Michael McFarland, son of member Cathy McFarland, is running for District 10 Oklahoma Representative. District 10 includes Nowata county and parts of Washington and Osage counties. Michael has been interested in politics since he was a child. He recently graduated with a Bachelor’s in Sociology and a Minor in Political Science. He is very busy studying current issues. We wish him the best in the upcoming June elections!

Our sympathy to the family of Retired Life Member, Margaret Jane Lamar who passed on April 3, 2018. Jane became a member in 1956.

At our April General Membership Meeting, the Bartlesville Chapter celebrated our 81st year with cake and ice cream. We were proud to present our Member of the Year Award to Suzi Birmingham. Suzi has been very active in JPS for many years and richly deserves the honor of Member of the Year!

The Gift Shop items are still available for purchase. Contact Debbie Laroche at [email protected] or 918-977-5008.

RLM, LuAnne Hamilton was recently honored in a newspaper article for her 10 years of volunteer work at ElderCare. Congratulations, LuAnne!

Several JPS members joined me and my family at a BINGO Fundraiser for our grandchildren’s school. And although none of us won a BINGO, we did score a few Silent Auction Gift Baskets!

Reporters: Kathy Daughtridge / Sally Dennett / Connie Buckner

Sally is the May Roving Reporter… Sharon Robinette successfully completed the 2018 BP MS 150…AGAIN!!! Gee, I complain about the traffic just DRIVING to Austin…just think if you only had 2 wheels!!! You’re my hero Sharon. Sharon and husband Rick are taking a mini-vaca…with their bikes!!! Maybe she has a “koozie” on her handlebar for a “cold one”. This bud’s for you Sharon!!! Kathy Daughtridge is on a mission trip in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Looking forward to her report on the trip in next month’s JANUES. For all of the heritage Phillips members that might be familiar with the technical center or polyethylene pilot plant, I just read in the CRAIN Communications Inc. Plastics News (husband’s business magazine) where MAX MCDANIEL was inducted into the 2018 Plastics Hall of Fame. I met Max when I first started at Phillips 66 Company in the 70s. Max would come to Pasadena from the “mother ship” in Bartlesville. We thought ANYONE from Bartlesville was a “big deal”!!! Max always had the very best smile on his face and would greet people with a big hello. We should all hope that someone will say that about us one day… National has been working hard to make sure everyone attending convention this year will have a great time in OKC!!! Don’t delay…make your plans today (ha…ha…ha…I rhymed)!!! T.T.F.N. from Channel’s Roving Reporters, Connie Buckner Kathy Daughtridge Sally Dennett

OKLAHOMA CITY CHAPTER

Sharon Eaton, Reporter May 2018

Greetings from Oklahoma City!

Welcome May! In Oklahoma, the third-grade students have a “Land Run” day. It is usually in April but due to the teacher walkout, it was held in May this year. OKC member Robin Miller’s daughter, Delaney, was “Ma” for her family of four.

Delaney was most unhappy when she found out that only “Pa” got to actually run and claim their stake in the Land Run. She thought that was very unfair – she still doesn’t know that women were not able to vote during that time period!

I had the following note from Ladonna Bicknell that she asked me to share with you.

“Finally got a diagnosis for my problem since Labor Day weekend. I have been diagnosed with stage 3 chronic kidney disease. I am having to learn how to eat all over again. Low-protein, no salt diet. Everything is exactly opposite of what I have learned in Weight Watcher's all these years. Have to really stick to it as if I go into stage 4 I would have to have dialysis or kidney transplant and was advised at 79 they most likely would not do a transplant. That sure helps give you a good reason to keep to diet!

Page 14: 05 2018 JANUES FINAL - Homesteadjpsnational.homestead.com/05_2018_JANUES.pdf · JOAN GORDON FOR NATIONAL TREASURER . RUMOR HAS IT THAT PATRICIA COOPER OF THE WOODLANDS CHAPTER IS

Four weeks ago, we had to take my 84-year-old husband to the emergency room. He was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He has a large mass in each lung and left lung is partially collapsed? The outlook for him is not good but trying to keep him active as long as possible. He has had COPD and heart problems for several years. The VA has him taking the new chemo drug Keytruda so possibly it may shrink tumors some. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.”

Bartlesville members Greg and Michelle Swaney and Jerry Eaton and I took a trip to Williamsburg, Virginia at the end of April. We did all the tourist things – Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown, Monticello and toured a three-hundred-year-old plantation. It was a fun and fast seven days. I hope everyone is planning on attending convention this year. I always look forward to attending convention and seeing everyone again. I look forward to seeing each of you in Oklahoma City in June.

Sharon Eaton

Norma Luginbyhl (HC3) with Fran Braden presenting the rock which will be displayed in the kitchen of the home for victims of abuse.

Norma stated “There are very creative people in this community especially when it comes to supporting such a worthy cause as this.” The support for the “Rock Around the County” event was a great success.

April was Sexual Assault Awareness Month

No one is more aware of Sexual Assault issues than Panhandle Chapter’s Norma Luginbyhl who works for HC3 (Hutchinson County Crisis Center). JPS participated in the Rock Around The County that HC3 sponsored bringing awareness of sexual assault and domestic abuse in our community. Fran’s son Mike painted JPS’s rock for this event and did an awesome job!!

A new activity we picked up this year was to collect donations of non-perishable food items defined by Meals on Wheels for their Seniors who receive Breakfast Bags to help supplement their nutrition needs. As our first endeavor, we were hoping

We were amazed when we discovered that we had sufficient donations to package ~500 bags (~ 75 clients for 1 week). In addition, we collected monetary donations which amounted to 145, which will be forwarded to Meals on Wheels. What a great service project, and our employees had fun decorating and packaging the meals in the bags.

to collect sufficient donations to be able to package 200 Breakfast Bags (breakfast meals for ~30 clients for 1 week).

Farewell to Regina McMurrough – Retirement Calls Regina has decided that it’s time to move to the ultimate goal in life – Retirement! She started work in Accounting at the Cedar Bayou plant in August 1980. Her husband and she started their family in 1983 with the birth of their daughter, Erin (our JPS Webmaster!), and their son, Daniel, in 1985. They survived her husband’s job loss in 1982, the oil crash when no one was hiring, then the Gulf Oil sale to Chevron in 1985. She transferred to Aromatics Division Finance in Houston in 1987. In the early 90’s, She was part of the implementation team for JDEdwards at Chevron Chemical and subsequently moved into IT in 1995. In 2000, She was tapped to help implement SAP for the Chevron locations with the Chemicals JV. She had been on a vanpool from the eastside since 1994 and in 2000, they added riders from Phillips 66 including Erma Holmes. Erma spoke frequently of JPS but she never took the time to sign up. Although she’s helped Erin with various JPS initiatives since Erin started with CPChem 4 years ago, she’s still a newbie, joining JPS in 2017. And now She’s moving to the “retired members” list. Retirement has always been a distant goal but now it’s suddenly here; all she can say is that the years have definitely flown by. Keep up the good work and bring wishes to everyone!
