ISLAM AND THE RUMOR OF SECTS Is making Sects (Jammat, Firqa etc) allowed in Islam? It is not allowed to make sects in Islam of any kind as Jammat is formed by Prophet through Allah’s commandment and is not established by any ordinary Muslim. According to Surah An'am Verse: 159: "As for those who divide their religion and break up into sects, thou hast no part in them in the least: their affair is with Allah: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did." In addition, Allah says in Surah Imran V:103: "And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided." Prophet Muhammad (S) however said that my Ummah shall be divided but in his saying, He (S) never advised us to break our religion. It is mentioned in Sunan Abu Dawood, Model Behavior of the Prophet (Kitab Al-Sunnah), Bk 40, Hadith 4579: Narrated by Abu Huraira (R): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The Jews were split up into seventy-one or seventy-two sects; and the Christians were split up into seventy one or seventy-two sects; and my community will be split up into seventy-three sects. What is the Name of Believer in Islam? The person who believe in Allah and his Messenger (S) is not Deobandi, Ahl-Hadith, Shafi, Hanfi, Suni etc. His name is the one which is mentioned in Quran and Hadith i.e. Momin, Muslim, Abdullah etc. Allah advised us regarding the name of believers in Surah Hujrat V: 14: The desert Arabs say, "We are Momin (We believe)." Say, "Ye have no faith; but ye (only) say, 'You are Mulims (We have submitted our wills to Allah),' For not yet has Faith entered your hearts. So, Momin got a higher degree of faith compared to Muslim. Which is the True Mulims & Momin group now?

ISLAM AND THE RUMOR OF SECTS

Is making Sects (Jammat, Firqa etc) allowed in Islam?

It is not allowed to make sects in Islam of any kind as Jammat is formed by Prophet through Allah’s commandment and is not established by any ordinary Muslim.

According to Surah An'am Verse: 159:

"As for those who divide their religion and break up into sects, thou hast no part in them in the least: their affair is with Allah: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did."

In addition, Allah says in Surah Imran V:103:

"And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided."

Prophet Muhammad (S) however said that my Ummah shall be divided but in his saying, He (S) never advised us to break our religion. It is mentioned in

Sunan Abu Dawood, Model Behavior of the Prophet (Kitab Al-Sunnah), Bk 40, Hadith 4579:

Narrated by Abu Huraira (R):

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The Jews were split up into seventy-one or seventy-two sects; and the Christians were split up into seventy one or seventy-two sects; and my community will be split up into seventy-three sects.

Allah advised us regarding the name of believers in Surah Hujrat V: 14:

The desert Arabs say, "We are Momin (We believe)." Say, "Ye have no faith; but ye (only) say, 'You are Mulims (We have submitted our wills to Allah),' For not yet has Faith entered your hearts.

So, Momin got a higher degree of faith compared to Muslim.

Which is the True Mulims & Momin group now?

Page 2: Islam & the Rumor of Sects

Prophet Muhammad (S) advised us regarding the jammat of true muslims which was present at the time with Prophet (S) will exist till judgement day. The related hadith is mentioned in

Sahih Bukhari, Vol 8, Bk: Holding Steadfast, Ch 97, Hadth 7311

Narrated by Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba (R):

The Prophet Muhammad (S) said, "A group of my follower swill remain predominant (victorious) till Allah's Order (the Hour) comes upon them while they are still predominant (victorious)."

So, it is proved that any sect that is formed after the death of Prophet Muhammad (S) is not a true sect, Jammat etc.

What if we couldn't find the True Muslim Group?

If the true Jammat of Muslim which Prophet Muhammad (S) indicated that it won't be born but it will exist in every age, if such jammat still existed couldn't be identified then what should we do. The Prophet (S) in this situation advised us to left and be apart from all the other groups and advised us to alone follow Quran and Sahih Hadith. This advise of Prophet Muhammad (S) is mentioned in

Page 3: Islam & the Rumor of Sects

Sahih Bukhari, Vol 5, Bk: Merits of Sunnah, Ch 56, Number 3606:

Narrated by Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman (R):

The people used to ask Allah's Messenger (S) about good, but I used to ask him about evil for fear that it might overtake me. Once I said, "O Allah's Messenger (S)! We were in ignorance and in evil and Allah has bestowed upon us the present good; will there by any evil after this good?" He (S) said, "Yes." I asked, "Will there be good after that evil?" He (S) said, "Yes, but it would be tained with Dakhan (i.e. Little evil)." I asked, "What will its Dakhan be?" He (S) said, "There will be some people who will lead (people) according to principles other than my tradition. You will see their actions and disapprove of them." I said, "Will there by any evil after that good?" He (S) said, "Yes, there will be some people who will invite others to the doors of Hell, and whoever accepts their invitation to it will be thrown in it (by them)." I said, "O Allah's Messenger (S)! Describe those people to us." He (S) said, "They will belong to us and speak our language" I asked, "What do you order me to do if such a thing should take place in my life?" He (S) said, "Adhere to the group of Muslims and their Chief." I asked, "If there is neither a group (of Muslims) nor a chief (what shall I do)?" He (S) said, "Keep away from all those different sects, even if you had to bite (i.e. eat) the root of a tree, till you meet Allah while you are still in that state."

Should we not be Read Quran and Hadith with Understanding & Research?

Most of the Islamic Scholars used to say that Qur'an is the book which a normal person can't read to understand. But Allah has advised us to read Quran with understanding.

Page 5: Islam & the Rumor of Sects

Surah Qamar V: 17 & 22:

"But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?"

Allah also advise us to research the true teachings of Islam in

Surah Hujrat V:6

"O’ ye who believe! If a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm people unwittingly and afterwards become full of repentance for what ye have done."

In addition, Prophet Muhammad (S) advised us to investigate the truth about Islam and not to follow the teachings of parents, scholars and other people blindly without any proof of reference. Otherwise, just believing in Allah and Messenger (S) and not following the authentic teaching of Islam shall cause us severe punishment in grave and may cause to put us in hell. Such thing is mentioned in...

Sahih Bukhari, Vol 2, Bk of Funeral, Ch 23, Hadith 1338:

Narrated by Anas (R):

The Prophet Muhammad (S) said, "When a human being is laid in his grave and his companions return and he even hears their foot steps, two angels come to him and make him sit and ask him: What did you use to say about this man, Muhammad ? He will say: I testify that he is Allah's slave and His Messenger. Then it will be said to him, 'Look at your place in the Hell-Fire. Allah has given you a place in Paradise instead of it.' " The Prophet Muhammad (S) added, "The dead person will see both his places. But a non-believer or a hypocrite will say to the angels, 'I do not know, but I used to say what the people used to say! It will be said to him, 'Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance (by searching the Quran & Hadith).' Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings and jinns."

So, it is proved from Quran and Sahih Hadith that we must search the truth from Quran and Authentic books. We must investigate any information which we received from others before we are about to accept & practice it or are going to pass it on to other people.

The Four Great Islamic Scholar (Imam) & Islam

All four (04) great Islamic Scholars Abu Haneefah, Maalik ibn Anas, Maalik ibn Anas & Shaafi'I (May Allah’s Blessings be Upon them All) were of the view that

Page 7: Islam & the Rumor of Sects

“If any of their fatwa strike against Quran and Sahih Hadith, it must be thrown on the wall and must not be followed rather Quran & Hadith shall be given priority”

Let we discuss what they say about this topic in their own books.

Quote of Four (04) Great Scholars (Imam) about Authentic (Sahih) Hadith

1. Abu Haneefah (rahimahullaah) said,

"When a hadeeth is found to be saheeh (authentic), then that is my madhhab." [1]

"When I say something contradicting the Book of Allaah the Exalted or what is narrated from the Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam), then ignore my saying.” [2]

2. Maalik ibn Anas (rahimahullaah) said,

"Truly I am only a mortal: I make mistakes (sometimes) and I am correct (sometimes). Therefore, look into my opinions: all that agrees with the Book and the Sunnah, accept it; and all that does not agree with the Book and the Sunnah, ignore it." [3]

3. Shaafi'i (rahimahullaah) said,

"You are more knowledgeable about Hadeeth than I, so when a hadeeth is saheeh, inform me of it, whether it is from Kufah, Basrah or Syria, so that I may take the view of the hadeeth, as long as it is saheeh."[4]

"If you find in my writings something different to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu'alaihi wa sallam), then speak on the basis of the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam), and leave what I have said." [5]

4) Ahmad ibn Hanbal (rahimahullaah) said,

"Do not follow my opinion; neither follow the opinion of Maalik, nor Shaafi'i, nor Awzaa'i, nor Thawri, but take from where they took." [6]

"Whoever rejects a statement of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) is on the brink of destruction.[7]

[2] Al-Fulaani in Eeqaaz al-Himam (p. 50)

[3] Ibn 'Abdul Barr in Jaami' Bayaan al-'Ilm (2/32), Ibn Hazm, quoting from the former in Usool al-Ahkaam (6/149), & similarly Al-Fulaani (p. 72)

[4] Related by Ibn Abi Haatim in Aadaab ash-Shaafi'i (pp. 94-5)

[5] Harawi in Dhamm al-Kalaam (3/47/1), Khateeb in Al-Ihtijaaj bi ash-Shaafi'i (8/2), Ibn 'Asaakir (15/9/10), Nawawi in Al- Majmoo' (1/63), Ibn al-Qayyim (2/361) & Fulaani (p. 100)

[6] Fulaani (p. 113) & Ibn al-Qayyim in I'laam (2/302)

[7] Ibn al-Jawzi (p. 182)

It is very clearly mentioned in Surah Surah Nisa V:59. Allah says

"Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it (back) to Allah and the Messenger"

So, we must first follow Quran and Hadith and then take guidance from the Islamic Scholars and when great scholars gives different edict (fatwas) on anything with a conflict of opinion among them. We must again get back and check Quran and Hadith for its source and then decide accordingly. When ever any Islamic scholar gives any fatwa it must be reference from Quran and Sahih Hadith. And we must ask that scholar the clear proof from Quran as Chapter number and verse number or from the Sahih Hadith as Volume number, Chapter number & Hadith no. Same as Allah ask for proof in

Surah Baqara V:11..

"Produce your proof if ye are truthful."

Are we following Imam-e-Azam (Imam of all Imams) i.e. Prophet Muhammad (S)?

In Surah Al-raf V:3, Allah says

"Follow (O men!) the revelation (Quran & Hadith) given unto you from your Lord, and follow not, as friends or protectors, other than Him"

Let’s analyze from Sahih Hadith that whether we are following authentic teaching of Islam or not. If a person claims to be the believer of Prophet Muhammad (S) and follower of Abu Hanifa, Shafi’i, Hanbal, Malik in 100% mode, he must also be practicing the Sahih Hadith completely

Page 9: Islam & the Rumor of Sects

100%. Or else he just have made sect in Islam based on their own opininion and teachings which is fully against Qur’an and Hadith.

Similarly, when the four great scholars gave fatwa at their time, it was according to the hadiths that reached to them. Whereas now we got the full collection of Sahih Hadith in books compiled with us. We can very well point out which fatwa got the proof reference to be followed and which must be left aside.

For Example: Rafadain in Salaah

The biggest misconception is about the Rafadain in Salaah. There are no less than five (05) authentic hadith in Sahih Bukhari which claims that Prophet (S) did Rafadain. Moreover, Seven (07) Sahih hadith in Sahih Muslim claiming that Prophet (S) did Rafadain.

It is mentioned in Sahih Bukhari (the book which not a single Islamic scholar can deny any single hadith from it)

Rafadain is mentioned in...

Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Book of Characteristics of Prayer, Ch 12, Hadith No. 702. Narrated by Salim Bin Abdullah (R)

Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Book of Characteristics of Prayer, Ch 12, Hadith No. 703. Narrated by Abdullah Ibn Umar (R)

Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Book of Characteristics of Prayer, Ch 12, Hadith No. 704. Narrated by Abu Qilaba (R)

Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Book of Characteristics of Prayer, Ch 12, Hadith No. 705. Narrated by Abdullah Ibn Umar (R) again..

Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Book of Characteristics of Prayer, Ch 12, Hadith No. 706. Narrated by Nafi (R)

Narrated by Abdullah bin Umar (R):

"I saw Allah Messenger (S) opening the prayer with the Takbir and raising his hands to the level of his shoulders at the time of saying the Takbir, and on saying the Takbir for bowing he did the same; and when he said, "Sami a-l-lahu Liman hamida ", he did the same and then said, "Rabbana wa laka-l-hamd." But he did not do the same on prostrating and on lifting the head from it."

Page 20: Islam & the Rumor of Sects

Since, proof of Rafadain is found in the most authentic Sahih Bukhari, which is the most authenticity Hadith book. So, Rafadain must be done in Salaah and Fatwa of even the biggest Islamic scholar against it must be rejected.

Page 21: Islam & the Rumor of Sects

Example # 2: In Salah, Shoud the foot of the neighbour person standing be touched closely to one another or not?

For eg. Imam Shafi said ‘The feet must be closely joint with neight standing person’, where as Imam Abu Hanifa said ‘The feet must not joint’. But what does Imam-e-Azam i.e. Prophet Muhammad (S) ordered us to so.

There is an authentic hadith in Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Bk of Adaan, Ch 11, Hadith 625

Narrated by Ibn 'Abbas (R):

The Prophet said, "Straighten your rows for I see you from behind my back." Anas (R) added, "Every one of us used to put his shoulder with the shoulder of his companion and his foot with the foot of his companion."

Page 22: Islam & the Rumor of Sects
Page 23: Islam & the Rumor of Sects
Page 24: Islam & the Rumor of Sects

So, in the prayers, we must joint our foot closely with the neighbour standing person as we got authentic hadith from the most authentic book with us. So, in this case we will follow the fatwa Imam Shafi which got the proof of reference with him from Imam-e-Azam i.e. Prophet Muhammad (S).

Conclusion

From above discussion, it is clear that making sect is dissallowed in Islam but establishing an Islamic Organzation to spread the teaching of Quran and Sahih Hadith or Message of Islam is allowed but any such organization can not even guarentee that the person who would join it shall go to jannah. But anyone following Quran and Sahih Hadith shall inshaAllah go Jannah. Quran and Sahih Hadith are available to us to study the life of Prophet Muhammad (S) along with the commandments of Allah in his Quran. We can easily study the translation of authentic hadiths from Sahih Bukhari and 5 other Sia Sata books. So why not to study them and follow directly the teaching of Allah and his Messenger (S)?

Jazakallah Khar!

May Allah Guide us his True Path (Ameen)
