One of the critical successes of the year, Kelly Reichardt’s latest film is set in an Oregon fur-trapping community around 1820. The central story is that of two friends who set up as bakers and need fresh milk to enhance their produce. According to Reichardt, her film-making is all about being “in this together verses each man for himself.”

Buxton Film: Iorram (Boat Song)Mon 18 Oct (7.30pm)

This immersive and lyrical documentary about a fishing community in the Outer Hebrides is unusual in that the only language we hear is Scottish Gaelic. Director Alistair Cole incorporates archive material into his film which reminds us of how little lives have changed. We hope to show a recorded interview with Alastair Cole.

The AlpinistTue 19 & Thu 21 Oct (7.30pm)

Marc-Andre Leclerc climbs alone, far from the limelight, making some of the boldest solo ascents in history. With no cameras, no rope, and no margin for error, Leclerc’s approach is the essence of solo adventure. He is reluctant to let a film crew in on his pure vision of climbing, but veteran filmmaker Peter Mortimer captures a historic adventure in Patagonia that will redefine what is possible in solo climbing.

Buxton Film: LimboMon 25 Oct (7.30pm)

Set on a Scottish island, four men are waiting for a decision from the government on their claims for asylum. While they wait they try to come to terms with their temporary new home. This is a timely release and as one reviewer wrote: “the film is a reminder that the real boats crossing to the UK are carrying real people. People with families, hobbies, traditions and songs.”

SweetheartTue 26 & Thu 28 Oct (7.30pm)

For AJ (Nell Barlow) planning a gap year trip to knit jumpers for elephants is much more appealing than spending a week with her family at a British Seaside Holiday Park. AJ expects the family holiday to be ‘a week of hell’. That is, until she lays her eyes on the resident lifeguard Isla (Ella-Rae Smith) and is instantly infatuated.
