Reduced costs, increased flexibilityKnauf X-Ray Partitions use Knauf Safeboard to provide lead-free x-ray radiation shielding. This makes them quick andeasy to install - and just as easy to take down.

The flexibility to re-design interior layouts and to build inchanges of use to rooms is increasingly important whenconsidering modern, future-adaptable healthcare projects.Knauf X-Ray Partitions can be inexpensively designed in tosuit mobile x-ray apparatus, and can be retro-fitted orremoved far more easily than traditional lead-linedpartitions.

For many low-level applications only a single layer of KnaufSafeboard may be needed, significantly reducing the cost ofproviding protection where previously the minimumavailable thickness of lead sheet would be more protectionthan is actually required.

Lead is a thing of the past - KnaufSafeboard is the future

Knauf Safeboard represents a revolutionin x-ray protection: lead-free radiationshielding using drywall construction.

Traditional lead lined boards are heavy, expensive and timeconsuming to cut and install with the need for additionallead strips behind every joint. Often you need additionalplasterboards over the top to suit fire or sound requirements.

Now Knauf Safeboard brings x-ray protection and fire andacoustic performance together in one easy-to-install board.Safeboard is simple to install and cuts and snaps like anordinary plasterboard. Knauf Safeboard Jointing Compoundis used to fill joints to complete the radiation shield.

HPA tested for UK X-ray shieldingThe Health Protection Agency (HPA) have comprehensivelytested and passed Knauf Safeboard to determine its leadequivalency in order for it to be specified to therequirements of the project's Radiation Protection Adviser.

Knauf Safeboard is a completely safe alternative to lead-lined products.

Typical Knauf X-Ray Performer detail:

Knauf X-Ray PartitionsKnauf X-Ray Partitions are installed in the same way as other Knauf Performer partitionsystems, with a few small differences:

The most important change is the use of Knauf Safeboard as the lining material. TheRadiation Protection Adviser will determine the required amount of Knauf Safeboardneeded for each situation in a project - this will relate to the number of sheets of KnaufSafeboard to be incorporated into the partition. Any remaining sheets that are neededwill come from the Knauf range to suit the fire, acoustic and impact requirements forthe partition.

Every layer of Knauf Safeboard needs to be fully jointed using Knauf SafeboardJointing Compound to ensure the entire partition is acting as a radiation shield to thecorrect level. Safeboard Jointing Compound contains the same X-Ray shieldingelements as Knauf Safeboard.

It is easy to visually inspect a Knauf X-Ray Partition to ensure the correct number ofsheets of Safeboard have been used. Simply look at the cut edges of the sheets for thedistinctive yellow core that denotes Safeboard.
