What is the Future of Jobs?
By Yevgeniya Kim
The World Economic Forum has recently issued its report for the Future of Jobs in the contours
of the new world of work (Employment, Skills and Workforce strategy) in the Fourth Industrial
Revolution. CAC has outlined the key findings of the report:
• Drivers of Change. Four specific technological advances—ubiquitous high-speed mobile
internet; artificial intelligence; widespread adoption of big data analytics; and cloud
technology—are set to dominate the 2018–2022 period as drivers positively affecting
business growth.
• Accelerated technology adoption. By 2022, according to the stated investment intentions
of companies surveyed for this report, 85% of respondents are likely or very likely to have
expanded their adoption of user and entity big data analytics.
• Changing geography of production, distribution and value chains. By 2022, 59% of
employers surveyed for this report expect that they will have significantly modified how
they produce and distribute by changing the composition of their value chain and nearly
half expect to have modified their geographical base of operations.
• Emerging in-demand roles. Among the range of established roles that are set to
experience increasing demand in the period up to 2022 are Data Analysts and Scientists,
Software and Applications Developers, and Ecommerce and Social Media Specialists,
roles that are significantly based on and enhanced by the use of technology. Also
expected to grow are roles that leverage distinctively ‘human' skills, such as Customer
Service Workers, Sales and Marketing Professionals, Training and Development, People
and Culture, and Organizational Development Specialists as well as Innovation Managers.

NU graduates Yerdaulet Absattar, Almaz Aubakirov, Yernar Sakarbekov and Ayan Birimzhan shared their fascinating stories on how they started their own SME’s and what motivated them to do so. Nikolay Tyan represented KazDream Technology Company and spoke about the specific benefits of working at SMEs. We held this session so that our young students would know about the benefits and advantages of working in the small and medium enterprises. We wanted to help them to realize that it is not always possible or even not always necessary to get a job or to work in large international organizations or corporate companies. We believe that SME can be a great start too!

Info-session: “Job Hunting in Japan” NU CAC held the session on “Job hunting in Japan” in collaboration with KJC (Kazakhstan-Japan Center) and Japanese Club of Nazarbayev University. The speaker, Mr. Yamasita Hiroki shed light on recruitment types (new graduate or mid-career reqruitment), types of work such as – sogoshoku, when an employee tries him/herself in different departments to figure out the best skills match, senmonshoku – technical skills based work; the visa application and status of residence aqcuisition processes. It was also mentioned that in Japan the tradition of working at one place till retirement is still persistent and the similar thing is expected from foreign professionals. The job application process by itself is, however, similar to any place in the world and the candidate should be ready to answer such questions as: why you chose our company, what your input would be, what your educational and professional background is and what kind of character you have (strong and weak points).

On September 24, 2018 Career and Advising Center invited the representatives from Fizmat (РФМШ), NIS, public school No.66 to reveal major changes happening in the sphere of secondary education and the advantages of being a teacher. The most important parts that could be emphasized that currently most schools reconsidered the payment criteria for the teachers and the salaries increased significantly. The speakers marked that the Government pays great attention to the professional training and retraining, the teaching staff of the school has wide opportunities to
participate in different master classes or training. There are several arguments in favour of working as a teacher that were supported by the speakers:
If you work at school: - you interact with many young and creative students - you can learn very interesting things from the students or teach them as well students do not allow teachers to lose their creativity - it is a rewarding job - you help students not only learn more but also teach how to solve the problems

At the end of the meeting the students were able to personally see and familiarize themselves with the work of the Main Dispatch Office, which rightly can be called the "heart" of the entire oil transportation system.

Graduate School Application Tips
1. Know Why you’re Applying to Graduate School Having a thorough understanding of your reasons for applying to grad school will not only help you to select the most relevant courses to apply to; it will also help you to convince admissions officers that you’re a perfect match for their graduate program. 2. Start your Graduate School Application as Early as Possible Don’t assume that every grad school application is the same –double check each one carefully, and make sure you include all the specified information, but nothing additional. If in doubt, just ask. 3. Check Deadlines for Scholarship/Funding Applications Scholarship application deadlines often come before the overall application deadline. So if you’re looking for funding, you should (as ever) do your research well in advance. 4. Get Graduate School Advice First Hand Once you've done some research, it can be useful to get some first-hand grad school advice -from other students, grad school alumni, admissions staff and advisors. 5. Get your Personal Statement Right Personal statement is your chance to really stand out from the crowd. The Associate Director for student services at the University of Toronto’s School Kerri Huffman emphasizes the importance of showing you’ve spent time researching the department and the course you’re applying to. “Learn about the current research taking place. Read their mission statement if they have one, and find out where their former students have gone after they’ve graduated.”
