Initially, the Team analysed a set of entertainment
programs for their worth, appeal, crowd pulling
capability, etc. Then a number of venues were looked at
from various perspectives, like proximity to target
audience, access to people, quality of auditorium,
availability on desired dates, etc. All these efforts
resulted in a proposal from Farmaishein group in
December 2018, to stage a brand new event called “Gul
E Gulzar”.
The program is conceptualized by Shri Pravin Gokhale of
Farmaishein. He is an expert in organising such events
for many other agencies. He offered a formal proposal to
Rotary Club of Pune Metro delineating various aspects of
the show, like the comparer, singers, musicians,
advertising & publicity and graphics design. After careful
consideration by all members of Fundraising Team, the
proposal was accepted.
Now the focus turned to securing sponsorships and
advertisements. The Fundraising Team approached
several possible sponsors and advertisers trying to sell
the idea of the event as a marketing proposal. A special
brochure was prepared for this purpose. Due to the
efforts of fundraising team, we could collect sponsorship
and advertisements in excess of Rs 2 lakhs.
Donation Passes for the event were printed out by mid-
Jan 2019 and carefully numbered to cover all available
seats in the auditorium. These were distributed among
Club members for possible sale amongst their friends,
families, acquaintances, loved ones and relations. Almost
70% of the seats were sold out in this manner. Thus the
Club managed to raise appreciable amount of funds.
Advertisements in prominent dailies during the last week
preceding the event resulted in robust sale at the booking
window too.
On the day of the event, it all started sharp at 5:00 p.m.
with the screening of an AVI film highlighting service
projects and focus areas of RCPM. This was followed by
National Anthem as per Rotary protocol. Ann Yogeshree
Phadke welcomed all, especially thanking all the donors
and sponsors for the support. President Bhavana gave a
short speech highlighting social projects undertaken by
the Club so far. Thereafter, all the singers, musicians and
members of technical support team of Farmaishein were
felicitated by giving them a sapling.
The main event started at 5:30 pm after arrival of
narrator, Shri Ambarish Mishra. Drawing on his vast
knowledge of literary works of Gulzar, his life history
and career spanning decades of Hindi film industry as
producer, director, script writer, dialogue writer, lyricist,
etc., Mishraji kept the audience glued to their seats by
narrating various anecdotes, humorous comments, and in
depth study of Hindi as well as Marathi literature. He
was enthusiastically clapped by very lively audience.

The singers duo, Madhura Datar and Hrishikesh Ranade,
flawlessly rendered one song after another from films
such as Parichay, Aandhi, Anubhav, Gharaonda,
Khamoshi, Ghar, Machis, Anand, Masoom, etc, sending
the crowd into nostalgia, rapture and ecstasy.
The show elicited many “once more” requests. On the
whole, it was a very enjoyable performance of divine
music, rich poetry, entertaining filmy stories woven
around the great literary personality of Gulzar.
