sorry to hear the news of the resignation of veteran Boys Varsity Basketball Coach Tom Sullivan. Coach Sullivan's resigna-tion was announced after the 2011-2012 basketball season. Coach Sullivan joined the coaching ranks of Hillsboro-Deering in 2006 as the Boys Junior Varsity Basketball coach. In the spring of 2009 he was named as the Boys Varsity Basketball Coach. Dur-ing his six years with the team he helped to move the basketball program at Hillsboro-Deering forward. There are many differ-ent coaching styles. Coach Sullivan had a straight forward technique which has developed many quality players in the Hillcat basketball program. If you were to ask anyone who played for him they would tell you that he always had the best interest of the team in mind. As a coach he set high expectations for his players and always
had a plan for each of these players to follow and become both better play-ers as well as better people. With regards to academics, Coach Sullivan had clear and high expecta-tions forhis players. He constantly monitored the grades of all players and addressed any issues in a prompt and direct fashion. As most veteran coaches know, these players work very hard as athletes while working equally as hard to maintain the academic standards set by their school and the NHIAA. Coach Sullivan provided us with the following statements regarding his res-
ignation "It is with sincere regret that I am leaving HD. The demands of my job and a desire to spend more time with my family brought me to this decision. I want to thank my wife, Jayne, as well as the entire Hillcat community for all of the support I have received over the years. The athletic and school administration as well as the HYAA feeder program and Friends of the Hillcats Booster program have all made great strides forward and are a tremen-dously positive influence in the community for which I am very grateful. I wish the stu-dent athletes and everyone associated with the program the best." The Hillcat Sports Community would like to thank Coach Sul-livan for the dedication, loyalty, persever-ance, and commitment he has given to the Hillcat Basketball Program. We would also like to say that you will certainly be missed and we wish you the very best in your future endeavors. Thank You Coach.
