adult education in Africa and has exertE:d a lot of effort towards giving

tion has issued and distributed press releases on important issues of

adult education to so:ne 70 journais and newspapers, whilc keeping in

touch with adult education activities in oth,r parts of the world through

or6anizations such as UNESCO and the ICi\.E.

The general objective of the 4ssociatio,n 1s to contribute to the

social and human promotion of populations in laying special emphasis on

their free and responsible participation in the transformation of their

jectives with respect to the law and the governmental action of the states

The special objectives of the Association are

any trainin.s activity on the African continent, priority given

to the rural populations ;

- any socio-economic study on development in Africa, as weIl

as ~ny operation necessary to the realization of the aims of the Associa-

tion.

that has progressively developed an original system of adult training in

langues Amharique et Oromo), en Haute Volta (Moor), au Rwanda (Ki-

nyrwanda) et au Zaf're (en langue lin6uala et ,iluba). Le Bureau du

Kenya a commenc le travail de traduction en Kiswahili ... .

Les cours s'adressent deux publ~cs : celui des agriculteurs

villageois (illetrs pour la plupart) et celui des moniteurs pt encadreurs

170nd en 1969, ce Collge comprend des ~tudiants provenant

de plusieurs pays africains anglophones. L'objectif essentiel du Collge

c'est la .form,ation d'agents pour le dveloppement int.5gr et particip, ca-

pables d'tre leur tour formateurs. Le Collge a pu organiser, en coo-

pratttm a.vec l'Institut de Solidarit.2 Internationale (Eonn) un s~minaire

sur l'approche int.2i5rde au d~veloppement rural. Ce sminaire a t~ com-J , "

bin~ avec un premier cours d.e recyclage pour des anciens tudiants. Ces

activits, similaires celles qui ont t en5a~2"es depuis deux ans par

l'Ecole de Cadres.

III. Le Centre cl 'Etudes et de l'.echerches Appliqu~es (C.nR)

Le Centre, cr.2.2 en 1971, travaille en .troite coopration avec

les etablisse;nents de formation et a notamment pour tche permanente de

faciliter l'adaptation des cours de for~ation aux be~oins du dveloppe-1 1 r

Le Centre a tabli un premier programmE: de recherche com-

prenant un nombre limit de projets, port~t e!s.sentiellemen~:,ur les zones

rurales et sur les proplmes de dveloppement de l TPP: ou de Gouverne-'. . . ~ .... .ments et Organismes s'intdressant au mme genre de recherche.

A la suite de ngociations avec l'Agence Canadienne de b~elop

pement International, le CAR a pu mettre sur pied un projet trs important,

race, nationality, origin or religion. The members of the ,Board are elected

resolution re,quiring its member States to support the Institute. Fina11y,

elle aide les artistes (chanteurs, compositeurs, ~crivains,

sculpteurs, dramatur iJ,es, etc.) se doter d 'une organisation autonome,

dmocratique et populaire. Le pas franchi dans cette voie est dj trs

important et favorise toute ducation des ri.dultes (regroupement des ar-

tistes au niveau du district, de la province puis de la Nation, en vue

de la mise sur pied d'ense::nbles nationaux assez repr~sentatifs) ;

- elle suit une politique de'i:; Bibliothques qui permet d'orien-

ter les lectures des jeunes sinJulire:nent et de dcoloniser par cons-

quent ceux-ci. L'ambition, c'est dE cr~er au niveau du Ministre de

l'Education Nationale une Fibliothque Nationale qui devra jouer plei-

nement le rle dvolu un tel J"'nre de BibliothquE" ;

- elle veut a::nener le public aimer les \f.uses et s'int-

resser eux parce au' dant les vestiges authentiquEs de l'Bistoire

Nationale du Bnin.;

- elle r.2or ganise les l\.rchives menaces de disparition. La

politique ici sera d'interesser le monde des intellectuels (dves,

tudiants, professeurs, a.-sronomes, juristes, etc.) cette mine in-

souponnee de richesses culturelles

- elle oeuvre la rhabilitation de la pharmacope tradition-

nelle. Pour ce faire une action d'enver,5ure nationale a dj t enga-

The function of the Botswana Extension Col1e?e, established in 1973,

is to meet anv educational needs within Botswanl'l for which the techniques of

distance education are appropriate n A la.r~e element of tt5 work is concerned

with education for rural d~velopment in accordance with Botswana ~overnment

policv of furthering rural development and rural education. lts course~ use

correspOD,dence lessons or other printed material sU1)ported as aDPropriate

by radio broadcasts on Radio Botswana. Arran~ements are made for face-to-

face contact with BBC students as far as possible and the precise arran~ement5

for this face-to-face contact Vi1ry from course to course .. The tirst courses

were launched in 1974. Thev are as follows :

- A course for members of Village Development Committee on the effective

use and functionin~ of thcir committee.

- A course for organizers of 4B clubs
