  • SPECIAL SENIOR RECOGNITION

    SCOTT DAVIS

Every student contributes to the famous color-coded halls at Reynolds Junior-Senior High School in some way, but one student in particular exemplifies what it truly means to be a “Reynolds Raider.” With his school spirit, upbeat personality, and smile that would brighten anyone’s day, Scott “Scotty” Davis is a very special senior. During his senior year, Scotty was named 2013 Sadie Hawkins King and received the senior yearbook superlative “Most Likely to Brighten Your Day,” as voted upon by his peers. On Wednesday, May 29th, Scotty was called to the stage during the annual Senior Awards presentation to be recognized for his contribution to the school. Presented to him by fellow senior, Kellen Gursky, was a scrapbook with pictures and signatures from all of the RHS sports teams. The idea was initiated by administration office secretary, Mrs. Allison. “He’s just Reynolds Raiders’ #1 fan,” commented Mrs. Allison. Scotty volunteers his time in the high school offices delivering mail and was dubbed “Mailman Scott.” Mrs. Allison said that whenever the office received the local newspaper, he always wanted to know where Reynolds was. So, with the help of junior Kayla Thompson, they got the sports teams together and started to gather signatures. The Reynolds High School Entrepreneurship class put the Reynolds logo on the front of the scrapbook. The scrapbook also included a few additional things, such as a picture of SpongeBob for Scotty’s love of the TV show. There was a roar of applause and cheers when Scotty got up to receive the scrapbook and there was an even louder encore when he walked across stage to accept his diploma on Friday. • The Veteran’s Memorial Ad Hoc committee has been meeting throughout the 2012-13 school year for the purpose of establishing a permanent memorial/monument, on Reynolds District property, honoring both living and deceased veterans of our country.

    Committee members include:

Joseph A. Torok, Jr. – Retired District Administrator and Committee Chair John Lowry – School Board President Scott Shearer – Secondary Principal Joseph Neuch- District Superintendent John Covelli – Buildings & Grounds Supervisor Karen Sherwood – Retired District Administrator Larry Sanker – High School Teacher and Veteran Mark Reichard – Retired Teacher and Veteran Tom Hanzes – Reynolds VFW Representative Tom Gay – Retired Teacher and Veteran Barry Nelson – Former Board Member Larry & Dawnle Scheetz - Mercer County Veterans Affairs Representatives

The committee has discussed many options and possibilities and has recommended that an appropriate memorial consisting of a single granite monument and five commemorative benches, (one for each service branch), form the basis of the memorial. The monument will be installed on a pentagon shaped cement slab with walkways radiating out toward existing walkways. In addition, individual brick pavers, as donated by the public, will be installed in close proximity to the memorial.

Join us in establishing a Veterans Memorial/Monument on Reynolds School District property by purchasing a memorial brick paver in honor of your loved one! Bricks may also be donated by any individual or group. The brick pavers are 4” x 8” and may be engraved up to three lines at a donation of $50 per brick paver. Please visit the Reynolds School District website at www.reynolds.k12.pa.us for an order form and further instructions.
