Our second month of school is off to a
great start. October marks our first cele-
bration of students completing our
monthly 20/20 reading challenge, 20
minutes of reading for 20 days in a
month. We encourage you to support your child with our 20/20 reading pro-
gram with three strategies: set time aside
each night for reading, select books based
on your child’s interests and ability level,
and ask questions about their reading.
We aim for all students to love reading.
In October our Wolf Pride character trait
will focus on growth mindset. What is a
growth mindset? It’s a belief that intelli-
gence can develop through effort, learn-
ing from challenges, and optimism. We
want students to believe they can affect
their own learning by not giving up when
learning becomes tough, but rather try
strategies, ask for help, and learn from
mistakes.
This year, the Camas School District is
providing a full week of early release days
dedicated to elementary conferencing
with families. During the week of Novem-
ber 5-9, 2018, all elementary schools will
operate on an early release schedule
(8:00 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.). If your child’s
dismissal plan will be different from his/
her regular plan due to the early release
schedule, please let our school office
know. Camas Extended Day and the Jack,
Will, & Rob Center will open early for par-
ticipants during conference week. After-
school classes for students are cancelled
on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fri-
day of conference week. The Wednesday
Lego class and the Wednesday Choir class
will take place at Woodburn as usual. Thanks to all the families and community members who support Woodburn. You help make Woodburn a great school. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to call me or email me at [email protected]
Every day counts! Brian Graham, Principal
