It takes strong schools to build a strong commu-
nity. Our school board members devote count-
less hours to making sure our schools are help-
ing all students succeed. They make the tough
decisions every month and spend many hours
studying educa!on issues and regula!ons in
order to provide the kind of accountability our
ci!zens expect. Please take a moment to show
your apprecia!on to our five wonderful school
board members this month.

Vote February 9th
!
On Feb. 9, 2016, Camas residents will have
the opportunity to vote on a bond proposal
for Camas School District. Why? We’re grow-
ing, we’re changing, and we’re wearing out
our much-loved facili!es.
This bond will fund several important building pro-
jects across Camas School District. It will not only
create new traffic pa%erns and increased parking
at Camas High School, but it also will make im-
portant improvements to safety, technology,
and equipment across the district, add a third high-
school op!on for our students, and extend
both community involvement and preschool en-
gagement through the renova!on of the na!onally
acclaimed Garver Theater.
Please vote on February 9th
, 2016.

This is an exci!ng week for our students as the gym is transformed into a giant jungle of an obstacle course where
they get to climb, balance, tumble, and swing. It is helpful to have some extra adult hands and eyes with the
younger grades to make sure everyone stays safe. Please check out the !me slots to see if you are able to help
with this fun ac!vity.

Ms. O believes that all kids can be healthy. She shared
a few ways for us to get fit. One way is to exercise.
Ways to exercise are doing push-ups, sit-ups or planks.
The second way is circuit training. The third way to get
healthy is to have a workout plan. Last but not least is
to walk 5,000 steps a day. Get moving Wolves! We
interviewed a few of our classmates on how they keep
moving and here are our results:

Hey! When our school just opened in
2013 we had 18 wolves adopted! In
2015 we had 5 wolves adopted. But
this year there have only been 4
wolves adopted. So we need more
wolves at this school! There are lots
of wolves your class can choose from
Wolf Haven. Who knows maybe your class will adopt a
wolf. Here’s a wolf who has not been adopted yet. This
wolf’s name is Ione. Ione is a young female gray wolf.
She has a rich, charcoal-colored coat and striking yellow
eyes. She was alone as a wild wolf living in the Eastern
Washington who became habituated to humans, guardi-
an dogs and domes!c livestock at a local ranch. Although
Ione had not depredated, it didn’t serve the wolf recov-
ery process nor the community for a carnivore habituat-
ed to human ac!vity to con!nue living in the area. Wolf
Haven cau!ously offered to try the op!on of sanctuary
(as opposed to lethal removal), and she came here in
February 2015. We do our best to provide Ione with a
life that allows her to be a wild as possible, while giving
her space to adjust to sanctuary rou!ne. She shares an
enclosure with male wolfdog Luca and the two seem
very a%ached to one another. Ione is the only wild-born
wolf living at Wolf Haven. Would your class be interest-
ed in adop!ng Ione? By Olivia Mar nez Brianne Swacker
Did you stay home for Christmas or
go somewhere? We asked 200 peo-

went to a family or friends house. 68
people said they go somewhere for
Christmas and 132 people said they
stay home for Christmas and had
family over. What did you do for
Christmas? Hopefully wherever you
were you had a great holiday!

Projects recommended by Facilities Committee; approved by the Board as part of the $119 million bond package:
» Build New High School: a stand-alone, secondary school located
on the CHS campus to accommodate up to 600 students. The
proximity to CHS could allow for some crossover opportunities for
students. The size of the building would lend itself to offer a small
learning community that would operate in flexible learning spaces.
» CHS Traffic Improvements: create new entry points and traffic
patterns for drivers travelling to and from CHS.
» Replace Lacamas Heights Elementary: increase capacity by 200
more students than the current facility; would be located on a 40-
acre parcel north of Lacamas Lake. This area is slated for
significant development in coming years.
» Acquire Property for Future Schools.
» Student Safety and Security: remodel front entry/main office
areas at Prune Hill Elementary, Dorothy Fox Elementary, Skyridge
Middle School, Liberty Middle School, and Hayes Freedom High
School. Improvements/ additions to electronic fob controls, video
surveillance cameras, lighting; and fencing will help to balance
security measures district wide.
» Facility Improvements and Efficiencies: repairs to major
building systems such as roofing, flooring, HVAC, lighting,
ADA access, and mechanical systems.
» Modernize Garver Theater/Garfield building: Renovate historic
theater; bring building to seismic code; locate all preschool
programs in central location; expand Community Ed and senior
citizen opportunities.
Example of Homeowner Tax Increase: The projected increase is $.48 per $1,000 of assessed value over current bond taxes. If approved in 2016, homeowners will begin paying for the bond in 2017.
