30 Year Service Certificates This week, two of our staff were
presented with 30 year service certificates for their commitment to
the NSW Department of Education, but more importantly to the
students and communities of the schools in which these staff have
worked.
In an organisation as large as the NSW DoE, these certificates
often arrive a little after their due date, so whilst recognising
30 years of service they generally represent a little longer. Our
Director Educational Leadership, Mr Peter Campbell was visiting the
school and was asked to present these awards. The first was to Mrs
Sharyn Curtin and the second to Miss Suzanne Johnston. Both staff,
each in their own field of work, bring a wealth of knowledge,
experience and understanding to the tasks they undertake. Sharyn,
as our School Administration Manager, has been at the forefront of
system changes in school financial management and operations. There
have been many ‘teething’ problems that Sharyn has experienced and
resolved. Her work in this area is often benefitted by staff in
other schools.
Suzanne, as a very experienced teacher, is always focussed on the
educational needs of her students, particularly as early readers,
as well as nurturing and supporting their overall wellbeing.
Suzanne also thrives in her role as our school’s choir coordinator,
something she does with a genuine passion for the benefit of our
budding singers.
These two members of staff, along with the rest of the team, are
the cornerstones of our school’s ongoing successes and
achievements. I congratulate and applaud both Sharyn and Suzanne on
the recognition of their service over such a sustained period of
time.

P&C NEED for Volunteers This week’s meeting of the P&C
Association again discussed the ongoing need for volunteers in our
school. Several P&C initiatives and fund-raising activities
will be at risk without further support. The contributions of our
P&C support all students, however when it comes to the heavy
lifting and the involvement of people in activities, history shows
that the hard work is done primarily by a core body of
people.
In recognising that families have many commitments and
responsibilities, it is still important to highlight that the
P&C needs YOUR help. Several events that will benefit from
assistance include the canteen, which is trying hard to become a
feature of our school again, however it is likely to be an “on
again – off again” service unless more volunteers are found.
Later in the year, the P&C are hoping to host our annual Golf
Day as well as a Trivia Night. These events will be best run if
more helpers are available, remembering that many hands make light
work.
Please have a think about ways you may be able to support the
fundraising efforts of our school, or whether you know a
grandparent, neighbour or friend who is looking for things to
do.
As a starting point, if you feel you can come on board and help
fill our canteen roster by doing a day or two each term, please
provide your name to the office and we can pass it on to Geoff
Stevens, Canteen Coordinator, to see what can be achieved. In the
future, consider whether you can donate an hour or two of your time
to other activities, knowing that your efforts do in fact support
our students and our school.
Semester 1 Reports Student reports for the first half of this year
are currently being finalised in readiness for publication. Reports
are a snapshot on student progress and achievement, providing a
teacher’s reflection on how students are progressing toward their
learning. Reports are often a great conversation starter and form
the basis for parent-teacher interviews to be held early in Term 3.
These interviews
allow for parents and teachers (along with students) to refine
learning goals of students across Semester 2.
Parents who provide travel for school events
Where parents offer to provide transport to and from school events
for children other than your own, it is a requirement that the
school sees your current licence and registration details, along
with your Working With Children (Volunteers) Check. Please be aware
of these requirements in advance. The WWCC can be accessed for free
via Services NSW, but does take time to get provided.
SRC Fundraiser 17 June Hi everyone!
Announcing our SRC Fundraiser for Term 2!! We would like to raise
money for the WWF, a foundation for sick, hurt and endangered
animals like the koala. The theme is ANIMALS!! You can dress up as
an animal, wear animal ears or a tail, wear animal print, or simply
wear something
that resembles an animal (think: koala t-shirt). The cost of this
fundraiser is $2:00 per person, and all funds will go towards
helping wildlife in this foundation. Thanks so much from your Term
2 fundraising committee, Hayden Grove, Amelia Simpson, Alma
Paungreen and Evy Ford.
