1. Module Title : Manipulating Media Chosen Question : What is
the role of the media and film in influencing fashion? Group
members and roles: Alice Senior (Project Manager), Alice Waldeck
(Researcher), Lydia Mawdsley (Content Creator) and Jade Newman
(P&D).
2. Research Aims: To analyse the role of the media within the
fashion industry and what influence it has. To recognise sources
pertaining to film that also influence the fashion industry. To
describe how the media and film industry have an affect on fashion.
To make a comparison between the two influences of media and
film.
3. Film and TV fashion Influences Film and Television
programmes and series influence the fashion industry. Sex and the
City and Project Runway generally appeal to viewers interested in
fashion.
4. Many iconic actors and actresses have been noticed because
of their roles and dress in film. These are actresses like Audrey
Hepburn and characters such as Carrie Bradshaw. Films like
Breakfast at Tiffanys portray a desirable lifestyle, which is often

5. Marilyn in Fashion Marilyn Monroe has become a fashion icon
through the roles she played within the film industry. She also
inspires trends. For years her built-in sensuality, voluptuous
figure and provocative taste went against her being taken seriously

6. Ted Polhemus Theory Trickle down, bubble up Trickle down
People began to make their own trends from what they had seen in
the film industry. Bubble up Designers began getting inspiration
from people of the streets, Street style. Rock music was a genre

7. Social Media Innovation of street style is recognized by
photographers running street style blogs. Social Media is one of
the most successful marketing strategies used by designers.
Bloggers, internet, celebrities and e-commerce websites influence
the way we dress and what we feel is fashionable.
8. Fashion always changes by whats in Vogue Vogue influences,
encourages and inspires consumers of what trend is in. A picture is
worth 1000 words Trends are set according to what the public sees

9. In conclusion Social media is highly influential and
extremely accessible. Music videos and genres influence sub
cultural identities. Fashion in film can influence fashion trends
through processes of Ted Polhemus reversed Bubble Up theory. Film
creates style icons which influence the fashion industry.
