How effective is the combination of your music video and ancillary texts?

Page 2: Presentation Media

Genre Research• As our video is based on the true story of Edie Sedgwick and

featuring a character like popular musician Bob Dylan from the 1960’s, it would make sense that our music sounded like something produced around that time. We would also go as far as to say we wanted it to sound similar particularly to Dylan's music as our singer from the video will be playing him. We came across unsigned artist Gary Roberts who focused on acoustic/folk music and lyrically suited perfectly the content of our video.

• Our digipak and advert would therefore need to suit some aspects similar to other folk/acoustic posters and covers but I also wanted to add that something special that is eye-catching and at the same time devastating with our underlying tragic story.

Photos from our video used for our digipak:

Those who have seen and enjoyed our video, will be able to identify what the song on the CD is by these images!!

Our Digipak

Comparing our digipak and advert, they are completely different in style however they bring out a message which makes them correspond to one another pretty well.

How effective:

Exteriorly it may seem quite simple however with the knowledge of Edie Sedgwick’s tragic life, our audience may be able to intepret it in many different ways. What I wanted the audience to gain from it is from the willow tree which is a huge metaphor for death and as is stand over Edie, she cannot escape it; its inevitable. The font is the brightest aspect of it all, especially the title, in contrast to the darkness which makes it more haunting. This makes it more eye-catching and make our audience curious to know who it is about with the large image of Edie in the foreground. The quotes from other popular and reliable media texts will also persuade the audience to an extent aswell.

The images here all link in somehow with the music video itself which to the audience will be able to identify if they have seen it. There are either still shots from the music video itself or meaningful lyrics from it.Most of the images are black and white but colour has been added to certain areas to not only make it stand out but link it in with the songs title “Let me paint a picture”The guitar presented on the track list cover illustrates it being of an acoustic genre which is more appealing to a wider audience these days rather than a folk genre.Altogether it should bring out a message of love as well as death and Dylan's tragic loss.

Compare and Contrast

• I picked all acoustic genre to compare with my own one and both advert and digipak have shown a simplicity to them all which may be directly linked to it. There seems to be one whole design for someone to focus on such as a guitar or even a tree like ours but usually face of the singer.

• Most of the images are also quite bland in colour with the odd aspect that stands out just like mine however a few have strangely chosen the colour yellow with blocks of black images in front.

• None of them have any images to do with love or romance to be exact, even if their songs are which is a contrast to my digipak.
