NEEDS A WAY TO BECAUSE

Problem statement

Stakeholder

A graduate who faces the scary challenge of competing for a small number of roles against a large number of other students

Need

Find the right job and have the opportunity present themselves in the best way

Insight

The job market is full of bright graduates competing rather than collaborating and the method for finding a job has become insufficient.

Original Big Ideas:

1. Video recruitment platform2. Job interview speed dating

Page 4: Design thinking course_prototyping&testing

Big ideas

Build a video recruiting platform:Enabling students to create impact, express their strengths and personalities through a medium richer than pen and paper. First impressions are important and a picture is worth a thousand words.

Big ideas

Job interview speed dating:Create employer and potential employee speed dating events for a range of different industry sectors, to get people exposure talking to the right people and making the right connections.

Final Idea

To create a employment speed dating service utilising both a digital tool (website with database connecting people based on specific criteria and tests) and real world event (live speed dating one on ones) to provide match making for both companies seeking the right employees and skilled, talented graduates looking for the perfect job.

• I have expanded upon my two original ideas to combine them in to two complimentary pieces of a larger product that can either be used together or separately

• This prototyping session is considering them as two separate products that can be used as part of the final solution

Prototyping

Benefits of the product

For both employers (yellow) and potential employees (pink), e.g.:

• Employer: Exposure to wealth of talented and carefully matched graduates

• Employee: Opportunity to meet with potential employers in and semi-informal setting to make the right strong first impression

Page 9: Design thinking course_prototyping&testing

Digital product – Website/ Database

• Initial sign up based on professional experience and personality tests (psychometric tests and informal likes and hobbies etc.)

• Online resources, tutorials and video interview for candidates

• Candidate and company match making based on criteria, desires and test results

• Online profile management and links to professional social media to maintain profile e.g. Linkedin

• Invitations to speed dating events and private interviews if directly selected by employer

• Digital event management through private invites and ticketing, utilising a service such as Eventbrite

Physical product – Speed dating events

• Small, industry and match specific events

• In inspirational and relevant location with the right facilities

• An initial introduction drinks to ensure group wide conversations take place

• 5 minute Company introductions• Follow by 5-10 minute private

discussions between candidates and companies, with candidate moving

• Finishing with a small group interactive task/challenge to get people working together and building relationships and confidence within graduates

Testing

Testing feedback“I like the concept of the service and the personalised match making with companies that it provides and the ability to make a more impactful impression”

Negative:• But, what benefits are there for the employer who most likely already has a pick of the best

candidates• If those companies aren’t enticed to use the service then how will I find the right kind of job

that I am looking for• Companies are swamped with applicants

Positive:• It is a very different method that enables companies and graduates to cut through the noise

of endless paper CV applications• Need to outline more what sets this service apart from existing offerings and once refined it is

something I would try out• The match making through personal and professional profiling and data is great, but need to

build confidence that this can work and that it’s secure

Reflection

Page 14: Design thinking course_prototyping&testing

ReflectionWhat is have learned:• Focusing my problem statement more to define a ideas earlier on is important• I think that the idea is good but needs to be reconsidered and redesigned• I need to build out the ideas by using several types of prototyping, I think the

practice video interviews and the role-playing would prove highly successful

What I would do next:• I would rethink this paper prototype based on initial feedback• Then build out the idea through planning more interactive prototyping:

– More detailed feature specific prototype for a website– the role-playing protoyping to test the speed dating

• Take the prototypes to a wider audience of known friends, including both graduates and employers to stress test

• Following this I will learn, rethink and pivot based on feedback
