Sector Overview

Scope of report

This report covers companies providing platforms and technology solutions for brands, advertisers and publishers. Companiesthat enable the entire advertising ecosystem such as the Data Management Platforms(DMP), Ad Analytics, Retargeting andproximity based advertising platforms are also in the purview of this report. Media agencies and advertising giants such asGoogle, Facebook and Twitter are excluded from the scope of the report. However, the advertising products of those companiesthat have large market shares are included in the report.

• Total $14.5 billion in funding across ~3050 companies with $3.4 billion invested in 2015 and 2016.

• 510+ rounds of funding between Jan-2015 to Dec-2015. 235 rounds in 2016 YTD.

• Ad Network and Demand Side Platforms are top funded sectors

• Ad Networks – 706 investments worth ~$3.9B

• Demand Side Platform – 362 investments worth ~$2.5B

Notable investments in last six months

Yieldbot, a real-time intent matching supply side platform has raised $35M in Series C funding from Staley Capital, New AtlanticVentures, SJF Ventures, Converge Venture Partners, RRE and City National Bank.

Teads, an out stream video advertising platform has raised $47M in debt financing round from BNPP, Bank of China, HSBC,Banque Palatine and BPI.

The Trade Desk, a media buying platform for social, video, mobile and display campaigns raises $60M equity funding fromWellington Management Company.

The scope of this report includes equity as well as debt funding received by the companies.
