Who publishes the magazines?

NME- Founded by Theodore Ingham, It was the first British newspaper to include a singles chart. In the 1970’s it became the bestselling British

newspaper. It was launched in 1996 by time Inc. UK. (Weekly)

Mojo- Following the success of magazine Q, publisher’s emap were looking for a title that would cater for the burgeoning interest in classic rock music. The first issue was on the 15th of October 1993. (Monthly)

Rock sound- The publisher is Ryan bird and the first issue was in 1999. The magazine aims at being more underground and less commercial while also giving cover to most well-known acts. It generally focuses on rock music. (monthly)

Kerrang- Founded by Alan Lewis in 1981. It is devoted to rock music and currently published by Hamburg based Bauer media group. It was initially devoted to the new wave of British heavy metal and the rise of hard rock acts. In the early 2000’s it became the best-selling British newspaper. (weekly)

Q - Is a popular magazine published monthly in the UK. It was first founded in October 1986 by Mark Ellen and David Hepworth and published by emap but now it is published by Bauer media group. (monthly)

Clash- Is a popular music and fashion magazine based in the UK. It publishes 10 times a year by Music republic Ltd and the first issue was 2004. The editor is Simon Harper. (monthly)

Classic rock- Was published by teamrock. It was first released in 1998. Although it focuses on key bands, it also included articles on upcoming bands.(monthly)

Mixmag- The first issue was on the 1st of February 1983. It is published by development hell Ltd since 2005. (monthly)

Top of the pops- was first issued in 1995. It is published by Immediate media company. It features chart information and star gossip.

IPC Media- Times.Inc UK

IPC media owns a wide range of magazines. The brands are tailored to the interests of a variety of audiences. Including subjects such as; Business and technology, entertainment, news, fashion and beauty, food, home and design, sports and fitness, travel and music. Times Inc.UK (formerly IPC media) creates content for multiple platforms, across print and online on mobiles and tablets.

They are the UK’s leading publisher of print and digital magazine content and engage with almost half of all UK

adults in print and their award winning websites reach over 28 million global users every month. Almost 2 thirds of UK women read these magazines and 42% of UK men.

The music magazine which Time inc.UK own is the magazine NME. The “new musical express”

Team Rock

Team Rock publishes 4 different types of magazines; Classic Rock, Prog, Metal Hammer and Blues. They focus on different types of rock music. As well as publishing magazines Team Rock also have their own radio station. This includes the world rock chart. The radio will soon be able to be accessed using an app designed specifically for Team Rock as they are pairing up with 7digital to make an app so you can listen to rock music 24/7 wherever you are in the world. The website includes reviews on albums and a section where you can buy tickets via their own

“Team Rock Tickets”.

Development Hell Ltd

Development Hell is an independent media company based in London. It was first founded in 2001. Development Hell publishes the magazine “mixmag” as well as Mixmag TV, Mixmag iPad app, mixmag.net and mixmag events.

Development Hell also produced tour brochures for some of the biggest artists in the world and has recently bought Dontstayin.com. DontStayIn.com is a company which organizes and promotes club nights. Dontstayin.com has built a following among the dance music and clubbing community since it launched in 2003, and claims an average 1 million users each month, with most aged between 18 and 24.The majority of users are based in the UK, US, Ireland, France, Spain and Australia.

The Development Hell managing director said that DontStayIn.com, helped to identify strong growth in the dance music market in Brazil that led to the development of a third regional Mixmag title, which will launch in the South American country this summer. Mixmag currently has magazines in the UK and Hungary.

Immediate media

Immediate is the special interest content and platform company. Bauer Media UK is an entertainment network of iconic, multi-platform brands.

The Bauer Media Group is Europe’s largest privately-owned media group. Founded in Hamburg in 1875 and now in its fifth generation of family ownership, the Bauer Media Group operates in 19 countries including the UK, Germany, Poland, Australia, New Zealand and the USA.

Today they are Britain’s biggest magazine publisher. Their magazine heritage stretches back to 1953 with the launch of Angling Times and in 1956 the launch of Motor Cycle News, both still iconic brands within their portfolio. They own 5 TV stations: In 1996 they started digital music TV channel The Box. This has grown into Box plus Network, a seven-channel joint venture TV business with Channel4. Reaching 16 million viewers per month and offering more music than any other TV network.
