VETERANS PROGRAM
BUILDING CAREERS FOR VETERANS
HBI, the national leader in construction career training for 40 years, is pleased to introduce the HBI Veterans Program.
WHAT IS THE HBI VETERANS PROGRAM?
The HBI Veterans Program empowers our nation’s veterans with the skills
and experience they need to secure meaningful careers in the construction
industry. The program uniquely supports veterans at every stage of the
employment continuum—successfully connecting, assessing, training,
certifying and placing veterans in high-growth construction careers.
WHY PARTICIPATE IN THE HBI VETERANS PROGRAM?
For veterans seeking skills and opportunity, the HBI Veterans Program
promises job readiness and career connections—all while inspiring hope,
confidence and long-term success in its graduates. The program provides
all generations of veterans the opportunity to learn the construction trades
through a combination of academic learning and hands-on experience.
Participants—who can graduate from the program based on their own
particular skill level—emerge from the program highly skilled, certified and
in demand by businesses in the construction industry that are seeking
qualified workers. What’s more, students are trained in the multiplicity
of jobs and careers in the construction industry, which increases their
marketability and employment options. The program helps veterans
achieve economic self-sufficiency and offers opportunities for lifelong
learning and graduated earning potential.
WHAT TYPES OF TRAINING CAN VETERANS RECEIVE THROUGH THE HBI VETERANS PROGRAM?
The program builds the skills of its veteran trainees at a variety of career
levels, from pre-apprenticeship to superintendent-level training. Among the
available training programs are:
HBI PACT: Students who complete training
through HBI PACT for Veterans
meet the standards for pre-
apprenticeship, qualifying them for
semi-skilled employment in their
respective trades.
RCS Designation: The Residential Construction
Superintendent (RCS) Designation
coursework enhances the
knowledge and skills of home
building or remodeling site field
professionals.
CONNECTVeterans seeking employment in the high-growth construction industry
connect with the HBI Veterans Program.
ASSESSVeterans’ skill levels and career goals are
assessed by HBI’s expert instructors who develop
training and employment plans for each student.
TRAINVeterans who enroll in a locally-administered
“open entry/skilled exit,” hands-on training program based on their skill level.
CERTIFYVeterans who qualify for semi-skilled positions
or Residential Construction Superintendent
certifications in the construction trades.

Job Placement: Unlike other veterans employment
initiatives, HBI’s is the only program that
trains veterans to work in a specific, high-
growth industry that needs skilled workers
now and for years to come. And it doesn’t
just train veterans, it places them in quality
jobs and helps them lay the groundwork for
a successful career. HBI’s job placement
rate regularly exceeds 80% due in large
part to HBI’s direct link to more than 700
local Home Builders Associations—the
community-based organizations that can
connect graduates to current job openings
in the construction industry.
Community Connections: In addition to supporting veterans’
reintegration into the civilian workforce,
the HBI Veterans Program helps
participants forge strong connections
to the communities in which they live
and work. The work sites used to train
participants are community-based
projects, so as the veterans learn practical
skills, they gain the added fulfillment
of helping those in need in a very
tangible way. As they connect with their
community on this personal level, veteran
participants become inspired to share
knowledge and teach their peers in a spirit
of teamwork and service.
Hands-On, Industry-Developed Curriculum: All HBI veteran curricula is developed by
industry leaders, ensuring that participating
veterans learn current, in demand job skills
and best practices. And unlike Internet-based
certification programs, HBI’s program is
entirely classroom-based and hands-on.
Open Entry, Skilled Exit: The HBI Veterans Program does not
restrict veterans to structured course
dates. Trainees can enroll at a time that’s
convenient for them and advance through
the program at their own pace, based on
their own skill level. Put simply, HBI offers
motivated veterans a turnkey way to get
themselves certified and employed in a
reasonably short period of time.
Team-Based Approach: The program fosters job-readiness through
methods that are reflective of the military
experience. Learning is hands-on and
structured. More importantly, it is based
on the premise of teamwork and operating
as a cohesive unit. Instructors mentor the
veteran participants, who, in turn, come to
teach and mentor their peers in a positive
and productive environment.
