different technologies

origination-destination

data on crossborder

shipments

Crossborder led data collection for

team (under HDR) in integrated data

collection effort that included:

• Measuring border crossings of

5,200+ north/south-bound cars;

• Measuring border crossings of

2,800+ north/south-bound trucks;

• Gathering confidential data from

65+ Mexico-based manufacturers and

logistics firms on 1,300+

crossborder shipments; and

• Used border knowledge &

equipment to measure additional

1,100+ car crossings with Bluetooth

sensors and 570+ truck crossings

with GPS

Result: Draft results presented to

public in March 2012; client (SCAG)

BORDER SURVEYS: CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL/ORISE

Ridge Institute for Science

and Education (ORISE, a

Federal research lab)

effectiveness of health

information at U.S. border

crossings

Needed a survey team

familiar with the border,

that would apply sensitive

health research protocols,

and that could effectively

apply a complex, bilingual

questionnaire…

Crossborder’s Solution

Crossborder’s research team

worked closely with ORISE,

CDC, and binational health

officials to plan and

implement a survey on flu

education awareness

Using hand-held, Android-

based tablets, Crossborder

staff recruited, screened,

and interviewed more than

1,420 pedestrians crossing

at one of the largest U.S.

border crossings in less than

three weeks

Result: Client pleased with

results; currently analyzing

data for future scientific

study and policy plans
