The film industry creates and distributes films as a product. This industry is a worldwide phenomenon but some countries have a greater role in production than others. The United States, India, Nigeria and Hong Kong are all major businesses and well known creators in the film industry.

Who is the governing body?

The BBFC “ British Board of Film Classification” are in charge of national classification and censorship of films within the United Kingdom

The highest grossing film of 2013 is: Iron man 3 which made $175.3m (£113m)The key, important people involved in the film industry are; Stephen Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock and David lynch.

What are some of its products?

Harry Potter, Star Wars, UP are all examples of products within the film industry.

Print IndustryWhat is the Print Industry?

The printing industry is solely obligated for printing every magazine, book, newspapers, billboards etc... This industry is a key role in worldwide communication and without it, we would not have books or any printed material.

Who is the governing body?

The BPIF “British Printing Industries Federation” represent the UK print and is one of the country’s leading trade associations. The BPIF are responsible for all of the printing in the UK.

“The Sun” is the UK’s best selling newspaper and sells about 2,983,240 copies every day. It is read by 8 million people from Monday to Saturday every week.

One of the best well known directors in the print industry is the Australian American, Rupert Murdoch

Advertising IndustryWhat is the advertising industry?

Advertising is a form of communication for marketing and used to encourage or persuade, an audience to take a new action (e.g.. Buying anew drink, watching a new TV program). Most advertising is aimed at target markets specific for age or gender or location.

Who is the governing body?

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is compelled to regulate advertising across all media. They also deal with complaints, as some viewers may find some methods of advertising appropriate, harmful, racist, etc…

Radio, TV, billboards, are key products of advertising used and viewed every day worldwide.

Saatchi & Saatchi create advertisements for food, retail, entertainment/leisure, clothing/accessories. They commonly advertise for Asda, Toyota GB and Guinness and much more.

Photography is used worldwide every single day. It is used to capture precise moments, advertise products and brands and also to communicate. The industry is made up of 8,700 companies and can be largely divided into categories: Image; Photo retail; Picture libraries and agencies;Manufacturers; Support services (e.g. equipment hire and repair)

BIPP ( British Institute of Professional Photography) are a worldwide recognized organisation consisting of 3,200 members covering every aspect of photography. It is a not-for-profitable firm, run by photographers with a small head office team.  Our Advisory Boards, Board of Directors and all Regional Committees are run by volunteers willing to help in their free time.

Television is undergoing rapid growth with globalisation and the growth of broadband in the UK homes.

Ofcom “Office Of Communications” are the independent regulator for the UK communications industries. Ofcom has a wide range of powers to regulate the television, radio, telecoms and postal sectors. They make sure that people in the UK get the best from their communication services and protect people from scams while ensuring that competition can thrive.
