BIS Finance is looking for high-calibre candidates with the necessary experience, skills and personal qualities to lead the function and ensure that the best possible strategic financial management is applied to the Department’s £30bn budget.

These are high profile and stretching roles that provide strategic support to our key policy delivery groups, and deliver accurate and robust financial plans to support senior decision-makers for the department.

The roles require self-starting individuals who can gain credibility with senior officials and Ministers in order to play an important and active part in the strategic direction of BIS. BIS Finance provides opportunities for an interesting and worthwhile career and support with training and development.

The post holders will partner and collaborate with a range of stakeholders, acting as the face of finance and taking finance to the heart of decision making, by bringing together policy with financial and commercial awareness and analysis. As a critical friend to the business, they will ensure stewardship of public funds, efficient and effective allocation of budgets and provide Ministers and senior officials with insightful financial analysis to inform decision making.

BIS Finance is a friendly, dynamic and fast paced directorate operating across the entire departmental landscape of BIS. In line with Functional Leadership, post holders may be required to maintain dual reporting lines, maintaining relationships with multiple stakeholders and reporting into senior management in both Finance and the business areas, providing constructive challenge to ensure financial governance, control and alignment is maintained, with balanced commercial and professional reporting. Most of the roles will involve formal management of a combination of grade 7, SEO and HEO roles.

- Excellent understanding of accounting and budgeting requirements in central government and associated reporting requirements
