5S Implementation Program of Lucky Lanka Milk processing Co Ltd

5S is the name of a workplace organization method that uses a list of five Japanese words: seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, and shitsuke. Translated into English, they all start with the letter "S".The list describes how to organize a work space for efficiency and effectiveness by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining the area and items, and sustaining the new order.The decision-making process usually comes from a dialogue about standardization, which builds understanding among employees of how they should do the work.

Introduction of 5S

1. Sort - All unneeded tools, parts and supplies are removed from the area

2. Set in Order - A place for everything and everything is in its place

3. Shine - The area is cleaned as the work is performed 4. Standardize - Cleaning and identification methods are

consistently applied

5. Sustain - 5S is a habit and is continually improved

• To sort and systematically discard items that are not needed in the workplace

• Remove unnecessary items and dispose of them properly• Make work easier by eliminating obstacles• Reduce chance of being disturbed with unnecessary items• Prevent accumulation of unnecessary items• Evaluate necessary items with regard to cost or other factors• Remove all parts not in use• Segregate unwanted material from the workplace

• headed for clean and inspect the workplace thoroughly so that there is no dirt on the floor, machines and equipments.

• Sometimes translated as "sanitize"• Clean your workplace completely• Use cleaning as inspection• Prevent machinery and equipment deterioration• Keep workplace safe and easy to work

SEIKETSU-STANDARDISE

• To maintain a high standard of workplace organisation by keeping everything clean and orderly at all times.

• Sometimes translated as "sweep"• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace

organization at all times• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness• Maintain everything in order and according to its standard• Everything in its right place• Prominently display a picture or diagram showing the proper

layout of the workspace

SEIKETSU-STANDARDISE

• The final stage is 5S Shitsuke or sustain, ensuring that the company continue to continually improve using the previous stages of 5S, maintain housekeeping, and conduct audits and so forth. 5S should become part of the culture of the business and the responsibility of everyone in the organization.

Method

• Basic knowledge of ‘5s ‘ was taken from the Mr .Lal Keerthi Gunawardana by for us.

• The 5s committee members of the company was joined with us .

• After that we studied the on going situation of the company at that time.

• And also we studied about the 5s with help of other sources.• When we study about the situation we saw that 5s concept is

already used in the company but it was not activated properly• Then we searched what are the reason for the

unsuccessfulness of the 5s concept in the company

• Then we searched what are the reason for the unsuccessfulness of the 5s concept in the company and why it is not developed in the company.

• The knowledge we gained was given to the 5s main committee by meeting

• This meeting were held of the chairman Mr Lal Keerthi of the company.

• Then involved to start the 5s in the company for this. we were divided into seven groups and each was given one section.

• The 5s was started as “SEIRI DAY”.• In this day searched about the each department with the help

of 5S main committee .• Then we divided remove the every things what are not need

and red tag and yellow tag to the remove in future• When we started 5s concept again, a 5s manual book was

given to the 5s committee member of the company .

• As the next step considering about new situation of the company we audited the company according to our crucial.

• Then SEITON and SEISO was started in the company.• Basic color catergurization,standerization were introduced an

started which needed for the 5S• Employees were encourage for the cleanness and the

graduality.• The knowledge was given to make an maintain everything

according to 5S concept• Mean while another audit was done to check the corrent

development of the 5S concept in the company • The advised were given to remake the shortouts.• Finally every one was awared to continue the 5s concept

without sopping it again and the importantce of the 5s concept

• The final audit was done according to the 5s standardization of 5S concept and the marks were given then the dep[artment were admired according to the marks and encourage the departments got low marks.

conclusion• The effectiveness of company staff was increased by

implementing 5S.• Now Any employee can get a document through a file within

10 seconds.• Now Company environment is very helpful to employees and

any people who come in out side, they can perform their duties quickly.

• Manufacturing environment of company is upgraded to more to safe full position . As a reason of this lives of employees are more protective.

• After the restructuring the company to 5S environment , time waste will be reduced.
