This involves much more than worldwide purchasing. We are of course always on the lookout for potential new suppliers, but we also inspect factories, together with local partners. We take random on-the-spot samples during production and before shipping – this is the only way we can guarantee the quality of our products and verify that they are produced in appropriate conditions. We work together with suppliers in the Far East and Turkey, and also closer to home, in the Benelux countries. Paardekooper also designs products, from start to finish. After making an extensive inventory, our industrial designer sketches a design and then makes a 3D drawing. This drawing is used to make the matrix or the die cut machine from which the product is subsequently manufactured.

the information on smarterbynature.eu comes from the spider matrix, a life cycle assessment tool that we have devised together with a number of renowned organisations and universities. The Spider Matrix assesses the environmental impact of packaging and disposables on the basis of all the major impact areas in the product life cycle. This makes us the only packaging supplier that is able to calculate and highlight the environmental impact of individual products, for comparison purposes, in such detail. The Spider Matrix rigorously adheres to the range of ISO standards on Life Cycle Assessment and the reporting of there results. You can read all about the calculation model at smarterbynature.eu.

for larger organisations we can, if requested, assess the environmental impact of every individual article in their packaging range. The values are compared with the results from alternative products, such as those made of other types of material, with fewer, or other, raw materials or of a different design. You will be able to make smarter choices on the basis of the suggested alternatives. In everything we do, we work according to the LESS principle: less material, less packaging (through innovations) and less environmental impact. We would be happy to streamline your packaging on the basis of this principle as well.

We have also given structural consideration to how our own company operations affect the environment. We now use electricity and gas derived from lower impact sources. We work to cut CO2e emissions wherever possible and when this is not possible we

compensate while strictly adhering to the WWF Gold Standard. At the same time we are also working actively at making environmental gains in our logistics process. We are currently in the process of gaining the ISO 14001 and greater sustainability, including in transport, currently enjoys our full attention.
