Bernaert Van Orley (1488-1541) Vanitas
Bernaert (or Bernard, Barend) van Orley (or Brussel, or Orlich), Brussels Flemish painter and tapestry designer born in 1488, son and student of Valentin van Orley [1456-1532].
He was a painter of religious subjects and portraits and designer of tapestries and stained glass. He was the leading artist of his day in Brussels, becoming court painter to Margaret of Austria, regent of the Netherlands, in 1518 and to her successor Mary of Hungary in 1532
