Recommend  you  make  a  password  decently  complex,  with  one  capital, alphanumeric  and  1  character/  number.

Twi(er  can  been  hacked  if  you  have  a  very  simplisDc  password.

Want  to  make  a  men*on  about  your  email  address.    You  may  want  toconsider  seFng  up  a  dummy  or  social  media  only  email  outside  of  yourcorporate  or  personal  email  address.    I  have  found  direcDng  all  social  mediaand  email  updates  into  a  secondary  email  address,  such  aswillgladhartsm@gmail.com  keeps  one  from  being  overloaded  with  thebarrage  of  updates,  news  and  changes  every  minute  in  Social  Media.    Keepingyour  primary  business  email  Inbox  unclu(ered  really  helps  determine  what  isimportant  and  a  non-‐important  read.

This is also the page you will return to unless you click the “rememberme” checkbox under your username.Once you have clicked “remember me” you will automatically go to yourTwitter home page each time you type in “Twitter.com”

Now,  you  will  see  a  screen  where  Twi(er  is  checking  your  name,  validaDng  anemail  address,  checking  your  password  and  assessing  if  your  name/  usernameis  available.    You  can  change  the  usernname  here,  but  recommend  keeping  itsimple.    eg.    @willgladhart  or  @willgladhart1  (how  you  will  be  idenDfied).

5

Recommended  People  To  Follow  Step

When  Twi(er  creates  your  account,  it  gives  you  a  list  of  recommendedpeople  to  follow.

You  can  skip  this  step.

6

Interest Suggestions

Next  you  are  directed  to  select  your  interests.    Again,  another  step  you  canskip  and  return  to  later.

7

Networking Via Email Suggestion

Highly recommend completing this step. You  can  synchronize  your  variousemail  accounts.

You  do  not  have  to  complete  this  step  and  can  return  to  it  later,  but  this  stepwill  verify  other  fellow  Tweeters  you  may  have  in  your  address  book,

8

Accepting Twitter Email Conformation

A pop up will appear at the top of the Twitter window once youcomplete (or skip) the email sync step. Now  you  have  to  go  to  your  email  address  (the  one  you  signed  up  with)  andconfirm  you  email  address.

Go  to  your  email,  click  the  link  to  confirm  the  address  and  you  are  directedback  to  the  Twi(er  user  home  page.

You’ll  also  receive  an  email  confirming  the  email  confirmaDon  (next  slide)  and“Welcome  To  Twi(er”  message.

9

Twi(er  Email  Confirming  Your  Email  ConformaDon

You  will  receive  an  email  confirming  the  email  confirmaDon  and  welcomingyou  to  Twi(er.

Now  you  can  begin  creaDng  a  professional,  execuDve  profile.

On this page you will see a “Get Started” section to the right hand sideof the page.First, you will want to visit item No. 3 ‘Set Up Your Profile’ to createyour job seeker’s profile.

11

Twi(er  User  Profile  Page  Blank

Here’s  where  you  can  upload  your  professional  headshot,  a  link  to  yourVisualCV.com,  website,  blog  or  LinkedIn  profile  and  add  a  short,  160  characterdescripDon  about  yourself.

12

Twitter User Profile Page, With Info

If  you  are  a  job  seeker,  put  a  descripDon  of  the  exact  Dtle  you  are  seeking  andthe  type  of  company  you  are  seeking  employment  with.    Otherwise,  putsomething  relevant  to  you  or  the  company  you  work  for.    Again,  if  you’re  sDllworking,  yet  prospecDng,  take  care  because  people  will  find  of  follow  you.

You  also  have  the  opDon  of  posDng  your  Tweets  to  your  personal  FB  page.    Ido  not  recommend  linking  to  FB,  your  personal  friends  may  become  highlyannoyed  if  you  are  in  a  chat  session  and  there  are  20+  Tweets  on  the  FB  wallin  30  minutes.  Overload!

Note:    If  you  are  going  to  use  Twi(er  exclusively  for  job  searching,  do  notbother  doing  through  the  seFng  up  the  picture,  ‘descripDon  of  you’  process.

If  you  are  going  to  Tweet,  parDcipate  in  chats,  then  set  up  the  enDre  profile.

You  have  opDons  of  choose  a  background,  determining  if  you  want  mobiletext  alerts  and  modifying  other  opDons  to  your  account.

I’ll  leave  those  for  you  to  explore.

WGC Professional Business Profile Example

Note: Many people ask about having a Twitter “custom background.”Reality, unless you are a designer or programmer, do not bother orspend money having one of these custom backgrounds created.Typically, the user cannot view the custom page because of Twitter’scontinued changes to the format and layout.Keep it simple with a basic Twitter user profile.

Seesmic Tweet Stream Platformhttp://www.seesmic.com

Seesmic is a little more robust than TweetDeck in terms of streamedcontent. If you are not a full scale Social Media Marketing or tools user, this platform might be a little overwhelming than you want. Seesmicallows the user to populate Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn feeds as wellas CheckIn streams like FourSquare or Gowalla.Pretty much anything that is online and has a social media or RSS feedis game.
