of the Babylonian civilization.

By: Breanna Farris, P5

Information:

About 2,500 years ago, the hanging gardens of Babylon were made. They were made under King Nebuchadnezzar II, to make his Amytis happy because she was homesick. She did not like the Babylonian desert, since she was from Persia, where the land is full of plants and fountains. The hanging gardens were located near the Euphrates River, and were was about 350 feet tall and was covered with trees, flowers, lawns, plants, fountains, pools, and miniature water falls.

Materials Needed:

• Plenty of Space!• A palace or large open building.• Many plants, such as trees, flowers,

and lawns.• Soil.• Water.• Miniature fountains and pools.• And maybe statues, for decoration.

Step One: In your large area of space, you should have already built a large enough

building to hang your gardens from. Make sure it is at least three or four stories high, and bigger than an entire football field. This building should have many large rooms, with stone arch ceilings and maybe a couple of pillars for elegance. Any stone is fine, but you should probably use limestone or sandstone.

Step Two: Now, with your inventory of plants and flowers, start to decorate. Your plants should cover most of the building’s outside. Make sure your plants are green, vivid, and have plenty of moist, healthy soil.

Your flowers should be very colorful so your gardens are very attractive.

Step Three: Now, you will need a way to keep

these gardens alive, so you should have an easy, tasteful way of watering them. If you are a high-class type of person you should have an irrigation system, but also have fountains and small pools to help make your gardens look better. If you are more of a middle or low-class type of person, you could water your gardens yourself, or maybe get your family to help you.

Step Four: It is finally time to personalize

your gardens. You may decorate as you please, with statues, paintings, pottery, or anything else you wish to have. This will definitely bring attention to your gardens, and will make you seem more wealthy.

Step Five:

Lastly, dedicate your gardens to someone special. The original

hanging gardens were made to please a special person, as

should yours. Finally, you are finished.
