BusinessesLiving DoubleValue Lives
Ali Anani, PhD
I dedicate this presentationto the thoughtful thinker
Shrutin Shetty Shrutin is an inspirer as a virtual friend and as a writer of deep ideas
We live quite often in two different worlds
Deterministic and undeterminstic worlds
Living between two different cultures at work and at home
Amphibians living in water and on land
But mostly living at the larvae stage in water and migrate on land afterwards
Many people live double lives on a daily basis
Social Networks world
Diminishing family world
Distant lives as if they come from two worlds
Engagement on Social Networks World
Engagementin Family World
Studies concluded the greater the difference between the home and work modes, the more dissatisfied people are with their jobs.

Doing one task that interests you while thinking of a task that you are compelled to do, but procrastinating over it
Example:A husband playing secretively with a beautiful female employee while showing love to his wife at home
Looking for the core cause might reveal that the husband based his marriage on physical attributes only such as beauty
Beauty doesn’t last.I call it “The diminishing return on beauty”, to speak the language of business

When beauty wades away, the husband becomes prone to seeking beauty from outside
The inner spiritual world of the husband segregates from his physical world.
And thus living two different lives
Smart people have realized that we live in two worlds at the same time, a physical outer world and a deeper inner spiritual world

Swinging between contradicting attractors may lead to burnout
World A Attractor World B Attractor
The fear of being caught coupled with the possibility of widespread broadcast of being found out on social networks puts the person under enormous stress.
Businesses aren’t different
Many businesses use Value of Diminishing Return to cheat customers
…….which promised to boost a car’s mileage by at least 50 percent, turning any vehicle into a hybrid. The company made millions selling the kits, at about $1,000 a piece, to unsuspecting motorists. In fact, they were all being cheated, according to the Federal Trade Commission, which last month reached a settlement with the company to stop what it calls the “phony” claims of UCSA.

This is an example of dishonesty making the customer feel cheated
The company shall be under stress for fear it shall be found out
Stresses businesses that eventually stresses the customer
Free productsGuaranteed maintenanceNew features…Sweet promises on the service, but turn bitterwhen need arises
Worse is these men are trying to survive; in survival mode they become very selfish and wicked in their behavior.
These businesses start the separation journey between their physical and spiritual journey
Like a husband cheating his wife and found out, so are these cheating businesses.
Business may survive for a while when:
Delight of cheating/Risk of being found out
is high
These businesses find an explanation for their behavior.
But, for a while
No business shall be able to cheat all people all the time
No business shall be able to cheat all people all the time
Businesses may overlook this fact, but they are stressed for fear of being found out
These businesses burnout internally, and if not shall be burnout when their cheating actions are discovered
Businesses that build on solid values and stick to them shall only survive
Stressful Emotions
Businesses shouldn’t live double life; else this is a recipe for death
