About GTAA Continued •  100+ Passenger Boarding Bridges •  22+ km of Baggage Handling Systems •  300+ People Movers

Problem

Most Organizations have Tons of Data but not much

Useful Information

Solution (IoT) The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical

objects or "things" embedded, with electronics, software,

sensors, and connectivity to enable objects to exchange data

with the production, operator and/or other connected devices.

Experts estimate that the IoT will consist of almost 50 billion

objects by 2020

GTAA has teamed with EDI, Arrow Electronics and IBM to implement an IoT pilot project which will deliver real time

asset health and predictive failure analytics on a sampling of critical airport assets including:

People Movers Escalators

Potable Water Cabinets Baggage Handling Systems

Background

IoT Intelligent Assets

I am not feeling well today for the second time, my sensors are telling me I am overheating and have some unusual

vibration. My last service was four days ago and the service completed was a motor replacement. My next scheduled

maintenance is in three weeks

Expected Results

In The Short Term – Real Time Asset Health Analytics

In the Longer Term – Cognitive Predicative Information

What Is Cognitive Analytics (Watson IoT) There are three capabilities that differentiate cognitive

systems from traditional programmed computing systems

Understanding Cognitive systems

understand like humans do, whether

that’s through natural language or the

written word; vocal or visual.

Reasoning They can understand information but also the underlying ideas and concepts. This

reasoning ability can become more

advanced over time.

Learning They never stop learning.

As a technology, this means the system actually

gets more valuable with time. They develop “expertise”.

What Does Cognitive Analytics Give Me?

I am not feeling well today for the second time, my sensors are telling me I am overheating and have some unusual

vibration. My last service was four days ago and the service completed was a motor replacement. My next scheduled

maintenance is in three weeks .

Based on past pre-failure conditions I know I am going to faill within the next three (3) Days!!

Value Proposition •  Minimize unscheduled asset downtime

•  Ability to perform corrective action on your terms •  Minimize asset failure

•  Cognitive analytics provide ability to optimize asset performance •  Extends asset life •  Ability to totally realign preventative maintenance activities;

•  Reduced maintenance costs via accurate predictive maintenance information which can be used to eliminate basic frequency based PMs

•  Reduce operating costs; •  Reduced operating costs helps stabilize airline rates and charges

•  Increased customer service
