• He believed in using nonviolence to achieve justice for all farmers.

Chavez Family Suffered During The Great Depression

• The Chavez family owned a ranch, but lost it during the Great Depression

• In 1937, they moved to California and became migrant workers

• Cesar Chavez attended more than 30 schools before the age of 15

Cesar Chavez Helped Migrant Workers

• Cesar Chavez protested the working conditions of migrant workers– Boycotted buying certain

foods– Organized the National Farm

Workers Association

• Cesar Chavez’s work led to the California Labor Relations Act– Recognized the right of farm

workers to organize into unions

– It was signed by Governor Jerry Brown

Cesar Chavez made the world a better place without hurting anyone. This method of protest is called nonviolence. People who

try to change things this way go on marches, strike and refuse to eat until their demands are met.
