• A constant reference in different speeches (common, technical, scientific, promotional, historical, political, strategic, fictional ...);

• A reality with a global existence but whose traits differ locally;

• An idea that is easy to identify but hard to define.

Research Project “Neighbourhoods in Lisbon 2012” aims to

• discuss some operative and fundamental concepts related to “neighbourhoods”;

• understand why certain places are recognized as “neighbourhoods” and others do not;

• establish criteria that can be used to analyze the urban contemporary reality.
