Pond in a Jar Experiment

Hypothesis

Listerine, an antiseptic, will inhibit all living organisms from growing, while oats and fertilizer will initiate the growth of the respective organisms that feed on them.

Conclusion Our original hypothesis was correct and incorrect at

the same time. Our original hypothesis was that if we tend to the jars, and insert the fertilizer, organic matter, and unknown (Listerine) into their respective jars, then we would stimulate various forms of life within the six different jars, as well as potentially killing the life with the unknown. In the end, the Listerine did not kill off most life as it was expected to. There were various forms of life even in the jars with no Listerine. We did, however, stimulate life with our organic matter and fertilizer. Some of the jars ended up with physids, and multiple different microscopic organisms.

Conclusion The only thing we may would need to do

differently is add more control to the jars by visiting them more than just once a week. In that way, we could potentially figure out what exactly is happening to the jars at a given day of the week.
