Education in Emergencies (EiE)

EiE is one of the priorities in Plan’s DRM strategy.

Expected outcomes on EiE:

Plan and Education in Emergencies Globally

• Surveyed all Plan country offices to determine strengths and capacity for work on education in emergencies; 39 of 48 responded

• 31 country offices are familiar with the INEE standards

• At least 26 country offices have expertise in emergency response and 15 teams have used the INEE standards in their response

• Types of Emergency Responses Access – Temporary Schools; CFS, ECCD; Working with vulnerable

groups Quality – Teacher Training; Psychosocial Support Governance – putting relevant clusters in EiEinterventions(school

community)

• 24 country offices are part of the education cluster in some capacity

DRR and EiE inter phase• DRR in EiE is a systematic attempt to analyse and reduce disaster

risks and vulnerabilities.• Synergy between both of these is to enable the education system to

provide, and learners to continue, and out-of-school children to access, quality education during and after emergencies.

• Disaster risk reduction helps to minimise underlying factors of vulnerability, prevent disasters and improving disaster preparedness.

• DRR is the combination of actions, processes and attitudes to achieve resilience.

• DRR measures for EiE can be grouped into three areas - – prevention of disasters– mitigation of impact of hazards– preparedness for hazard risks.
