Past Simple: we use past simple to talk past actions or states, often with time expressions like yesterday, last week, a year ago, when I was young…

Eg: 1. I went to school yesterday. 2. She was in Hanoi last week.

Past Simple and Past Continuous

Past Continuous: to talk about past actions or situations in

progress at a particular time in the past.Eg: I was working at eight o’clock last night.

to describe the background scene in a story:

Eg: The sun was shining and I was walking along High Street.

Past Simple and Past Continuous: When a short action interrupts an action

in progress, we use when before the action in the past and while/when before the action in the past continuous.

Eg: 1. When he arrived, I was working. 2. My car broke down while/when I was

driving home.

Used To, Would, Be/Get Used To

Used to/Would + Infinitive:To talk about something that happened regularly in the past.

Eg: 1. I used to go jogging every day until I hurt my knee.2. He would stay up all night when he was younger.

Used To, Would, Be/Get Used To

Used to (not Would) + Infinitive:For a situation that was true in the past.

Eg: 1. She used to have long hair.2. I didn’t used to like pop music.

Used To, Would, Be/Get Used To

Be/Get Used to + Noun/Pronoune/V-ing:To talk about something that seems or becomes normal because we’ve experienced it before.

Eg: 1. We don’t mind the cold weather. We’re used to it.2. You’ll soon get used to wearing glasses.
