Hack the Hood: Digital Inclusion Meets Small Business October 2015

“I didn’t know that people like me could

work in tech. And now, I could be a

coder.”

- --Norma Soto, Summer 2015 Hack the Hood program participant

Hack the Hood introduces low-income youth of color to careers in technology.

We teach them web development & basic coding skills, which they practice by building web sites for local organizations.

Our young people go from feeling like consumers of tech to producers of tech--and start to see futures they never imagined.

“If more youth are involved, they will be able to build websites and also get into the tech industry by creating personal connections with people who are already working in the tech industry” -Teresa , 2015 youth instructor, 2014 participant

We fill a place in the pipeline that’s essential

Because we focus on low-income youth, and those who are not always on college

track, we transform the experience of many young people—and change the trajectory of

what they do.
