➢ It came at the end of a reign when James II wanted Roman Catholicism reinstalled as the country’s religion

Whig and Tory parties

➢ The policies of James II had caused much discontent

➢ They sent an ‘Invitation’ to William of Orange to take the throne of the country

● it said that James had abandoned the government.● The Bill of Rights forbade the monarch to be a Catholic

and from marrying a Catholic.

Since the Bill Rights which made England a constitutional monarchy

As a result:

❖ the government of Britain has

become more democratic

The Bill of rights had ensured that Anne , who was

Mary’s sister

would be the rightful heir after William and Mary.
