Combating Harassment

BrainstormingIt all started when we decided to look deep in the

rooted complexes our society is suffering from.

After a while, we agreed on launching a cleanliness campaign… then again, we found that cleanliness is comparatively not “deep” enough.

Subsequently, we came up with the “Stop Harassment” idea which seemed quite rooted and profound to us.

DEFINING THE WORD: HARASSMENT

INCLUDES ALL BEHAVIOURS OF AN OFFENSIVE NATURE

IT’S TO ANNOY OR PESTER SOMEONE YOU DON’T KNOW ON PURPOSE WITHOUT HIM APPROVING OF IT

HARASSMENT TAKES MANY FORMS AND CAN HAPPEN TO ONE OR A GROUP BY ONE OR A GROUP

“When your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme.”

And s

o it

began

We started with research just as follows:

1) Types of harassment.

2) Laws that criminalize harassment around the world

3) A full first-hand statistical study

Als

o:

4) Religious viewpoints analysis.

5) Brainstorming.

6) Articles from newspapers to find to what extent the problem prevails.

What are the different types of harassment?

There has been many classifications.

Most common classifications involve:

1. Bullying

2. Stalking

3. Sexual harassment

4. Disability harassment

5. Psychological harassment

6. Verbal harassment 7. Visual harassment

HARASSMENT IN WORKPLACE

ITS FORMS:

1. STARING2. MAKING OFFENSIVE COMMENTS ABOUT LOOKS, CLOTHING3. TOUCHING; PATTING/PENCHING4. TELLIING INAPPRORIATE/SEXUAL JOKES AND MAKING SEXUAL

GESTURES

________________________________________________________HOW TO AVOID SUCH TYPE OF HARASSMENT:TWO SOLUTIONS:5. TELL HIM DIRECTLY TO STOP, LET HIM KNOW THAT HIS ACTION IS

UNWELCOME.IGNORING THE ACTION WILL NOT MAKE IT GO AWAY

2. IF THE FIRST DOESN’T WORK, REPORT THE SUPERVISOR.

1. Mobbing

2. Racial harassment

3. Hazing

4. Electronic harassment.

Other “not so common” types involve...

How far the problem prevails…?

A statistical questionnaire was introduced to pretty much a big variety of social sectors including: Students, teachers, passer-bys of different ages and others.

The survey included questions like these:

• “Have you ever got harassed by?

• “How old was the harasser and what category did he belong to?

• How often do you encounter harassment cases in your school?

The Statistical report

The report is finished and in PDF format. And I can tell it lacks much accuracy.

But the best of effort has been exerted.

Snapshot of the 8-page report

Results of the research

What we discussed

1-Why it happens?

2-Where it happens?

3-When does it most happen?

4-Who’s responsible?

Why it happens:Ethically: 1.

disregarding religion2. Infirm upbringing

Media: 1. Insufficient awareness

inciting.

2. Inadequate material for children

Law and government:

1. INSECURITY2. INCAPABLE LAWS

REASON WHY THE HARASSERCOMMITSHARASSMENT

1. RACIAL PREJUDICE

2. PERSONAL MALICE

3. FORCE SOMONE TO QUIT A JOB

4. GRANT SEXUAL FAVORS

5. A FORM OF ILLEGAL PRESSURE TO COLLECT A BILL

6. GAIN SADISTIC PLEASURE

THEY COULD BE:

According to the report we made:

OTHER VIEWPOINT

IT USED TO BE AMPLE IN THE NIGHT, BUT NOW, THERE’S NO MUCH DIFFERENCE

Very abundant in national occasions and holidays(e.g. Eid)

SUMMERTIME

WHEN DOES HARASSMENT OCCUR?

Who’s responsible?

The harasser or the victim?

HUMANLY AND SENTIMENTALLY: HARASSER IS THE FIRST TO BLAME. AND THIS IS NATURAL SINCE HE’S THE ONE WHO STIMULATED THE CIRCUMSTANCES AGAINST THE VICTIM WHO WAS NOT WILLING BY ANY MEANS TO DO THIS

OTHER VIEWPOINTS:THE PARENTS OR BREADWINNER ALSO ARE TO BLAME,SINCE THEY LET THE VICTIM CONSENTLY GO OUT WITH SEXUALLY TEMPTING CLOTHING OR INAPROPRIATE FOR HER AGE AND AGAINST RELIGIOUS PRINCIPLES

THIS QUESTION IS SO ARGUMENTATIVE AND THERE ARE STILL MANY VIEWPOINTS AND JUSTIFICATIIONS GOING IN MANY CHATTINGS AND SUCH.

According to our statistics
