From Our PrincipalNurturing a Learning Growth MindsetCongratulations to all students for their achievements this year. I hope each of you are proud of your achievements at school and beyond. Congratulations to our Kindergarten, Year 6 and Year 12 students who all completed significant schooling milestones. We wish you well as you move forward.
I would like to acknowledge the staff who are leaving us for new ventures as well as some for temporary opportunities. Those leaving us for new positions include Mr McMaster who was successful in gaining promotion to Head Teacher; Ms Wright who has received a transfer; Mr Carlson who has been successful in gaining a permanent position; and Ms Casey who is retiring. We wish them well for their futures.
Thank you to staff and families for supporting the learning accomplishments of our children and young people. I believe this year, more than any other, has shown the value of our partnership to support our children and young people.
Happy HolidaysI would like to wish everybody a safe and happy holiday. I hope you will have the opportunity to do some reading for pleasure.
On behalf of my own family and the staff I would like to wish all families peace and best wishes for the holidays.
We look forward to launching our new School Plan 2021-2024 as we build on our successes and open up some new initiatives following our reflections and planning from this year.

We Did It - Year 12Thank you to all students, guests and families that attended our “We Did It” Ceremonies on Tuesday 17th November. Congratulations to our Wadalba Community School Scholarship award recipients Charlotte Coleman and Punyapa Leephokanon that were recognised on the day and thank you for the ongoing support from our community donator.
Year 12 FormalOur Year 12 Formal was held at Mingara Thursday 19th November. It was lovely to see our students dressed so nicely and behave so respectfully on the night. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Mr George, Mr Hutchinson and Mrs Butlin for their formal organisation. Thank you also to the staff that attended and assisted with setting up the venue. A special mention also to Miss Bowen and Mrs Burge for the supply and purchase of the cupcakes.
Year 12 Results BreakfastHSC results will be released on Friday 18th December and we have invited our students to share their results and breakfast with our staff in the Year 12 area at the back of the canteen from 8am. We are looking forward to celebrating our student’s HSC results.
Year 10Congratulations to our Year 10 students who have successfully accomplished another milestone obtaining their ROSA. With this accomplishment also comes a new challenge and journey for some of our students who are headed towards Tafe course and apprenticeships. We wish them all the best as they enter the workforce and further study.
2021 has been a year of significant challenge and it has posed several obstacles for both students and staff. We would like to take this opportunity to thank students that have made the effort to commit to their studies throughout the duration of the year and congratulate those students that received awards at our recent Attitude and Industry and Presentation Day ceremonies. We are looking forward to continuing to support our students with their learning pathway during next year.
Finally, with the festive season just around the corner, we would like to wish families a safe and enjoyable holiday, a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

English And Library
Although it was a quieter Book Week in 2020 with most activities taking place in the classroom, our students and staff celebrated by participating in a variety of fun activities linked to literacy, for instance: reading, writing, listening, viewing and responding to stories.
It was lovely to hear that so many students engaged with the daily fictional character quote activity during
Roll Call. A huge thank you to some of our extremely talented students and the amazing Action Art group for decorating our school with colourful characters and curious creatures. The posters looked very professional and showed lots of innovation. In effect, this provided an incredible atmosphere that got the school talking about books and the library.

Lots of creativity was also shown in the Year 7-9 Bookmark competition. This made the judging quite tough however we were able to select a few stand outs. The winners were announced in the library and now have a nice laminated copy of their masterpiece. It was interesting to learn about the different texts that students have or are currently reading, so well done to all the students in Year 7-9 who completed the questionnaires. A big applause for the students who took the time to elaborate on their answers and won a fiction book prize for their detailed responses.
Finally, congratulations Freeman who had the most correct answers in the Roll Call challenge and as a result received 250 Sport House Points. It was clear that our High School students and teachers had a great time dressing up as a fictional character. We particularly appreciated the effort that Bob the Builder and Shrek put into their costumes. You guys looked fantastic!
The amazing support from everyone for this important school calendar event was really fantastic and we appreciate it very much. We hope all of our prize winners enjoyed their rewards!

Learning ChoicesThis term, Stage 4 students have been learning about ancient China. We studied the geography and social structure in ancient Chinese societies. To end the year, we used clay to make our own army of Terracotta Warriors. Students also watched an experiment that produced ‘elephant toothpaste’.
Stage 5 are commended for their efforts in creating their own short documentaries and ads in our unit on Media. There were some fantastic productions as students used techniques to engage and persuade their audience. Year 10 are ready to leave the Learning Choices class and begin their Senior years with subjects of their choice. You have all come so
far in your learning and personal growth. A massive congratulations to those students from your very proud teachers.
As Covid has made it difficult to go on reward excursions, we had an incursion where we had a pizza party to celebrate a successful year, overcoming challenges.

MathsAnother big year in the Mathematics Faculty is coming to a close. It has been great to see so many students
continue to develop their problem solving skills along with their Mathematics content skills.
Our focus on Mathematical Reasoning and Prepared for learning have continued. Being prepared for learning not only includes bringing the correct equipment to school (books, pens, calculators) but also bringing a positive attitude to learning.
Students are encouraged to show their mathematical reasoning during class work and assessment tasks. This includes all the necessary steps to solve a problem just like an essay has an introduction, body and conclusion.
Two students from each class were recognised with a written letter of merit for demonstrating these skills in the classroom at the end of each term. The Term 4 recipients are:

Our Year 6 Mathematics Enrichment Course created an environment for students to experience some high school Maths lessons while being challenged to apply mathematical reasoning. Thank you to Miss Garland for organising these engaging lessons.

Maths Continued
Students in Stage 3 and 4 were given the opportunity to solve some hands-on mathematical problems during the visit from World of Maths.
Academic Coaching continued to support our Year 8 students this year. Selected students work in small groups with teachers to identify academic goals and are provided with support to work towards these goals.
Maths Club: A reminder to all students that Maths Club will continue to run next year. Students from Year 12 will be available during one lunch a week to provide some guidance and support with any Maths or study concerns you may have. A huge thank you to those students for volunteering their time.
Congratulations to Blake Verdi in Year 12 who was accepted into the Nation-Wide Australian Mathematics Summer Camp with a full scholarship. Blake will have the chance to work alongside Australia’s best Mathematicians from educational settings and industry.
Next year I am taking up an opportunity to develop my skills further through working with the NSW Mathematics Strategy as a Mathematics Growth Team Trainer. Trisica Von Pralitz will have the opportunity to work with the exceptional and passionate Mathematics Faculty throughout 2021 as Rel Ht.
Lastly the faculty would like to wish Mr McMaster and Mr Gorton all the best as they take on new roles next year. Mr McMaster has accepted a permanent Head Teacher position at Evans Head High School and Mr Gorton has accepted a position teaching with Aurora College.

Middle School NewsMeasuring Physical SpaceYear 7 have had another busy term in Measuring Physical Space studying the units of Living Things in Science, Survivor and Summer Sports in PD/H/PE and Measurement of time and probability in Mathematics.
In Science, students have spent time learning the characteristics of all livings things and how we classify these organisms into groups, as well as spending time looking at the building blocks of all living things in the lab. This included discovering some single celled organisms in local pond water under the microscope.
In Mathematics, we have taken the time to see the practical and everyday implications of how we measure time. Students have applied these mathematical principles into their everyday life throughout lessons this term.
And finally, in PDHPE we have been enjoying the sunshine and engaging in all types of Summer Sports during PE lessons. These have included; cricket, tennis, volleyball, basketball and touch football. In Health lessons, students have been learning how they can best equip themselves to be safe during
outdoor recreation and activities which they might enjoy during their summer break including bike and road safety, beach safety and basic first aid principles.
HumanitiesIn Humanities this term the focus areas were ancient Egypt and Shakespeare.
In History, students investigated the the features of the ancient Egyptian society and how this influenced the civilisation that developed there. They learnt about everyday life, the roles of key groups and people in ancient Egypt as well as the influence of law and religion. As an additional activity for students who finished their work efficiently, there was the option of making a miniature pyramid or sarcophagus.
In English, students studied and performed a play called The Lost Scroll and read a short story on life in ancient Egypt called Mummies in the Morning. Students have also investigated the life and times of William Shakespeare, in preparation for their study of a Shakespearean plays in Year 8.

Support UnitAs the school year draws to a close the Support Unit is proud to showcase some of its recent highlights. Firstly, we recognise the great work completed by Elijah Masters in qualifying for his leadership NAIDOC award. As the photo below shows he is as proud of his efforts as much as we are here in the Support unit.
Also, we have all been very busy with ceramics lessons and all classes have produced some amazing works which have been glazed and fired. Ms Coopers class produced some amazing Christmas tree decorations. The photos below show the final products.
Further, we had Liam Partridge of year 10 successfully pass his Learner Driver test and Michael Marino of Year 11 successfully pass his Provisional Driver test. Super effort by both of these young men and a real step towards independency.
Overall, this has been a testing year but the resilience shown by all is to be commended. We look forward to a bigger and better 2021.

Rock And WaterThis term Hall were the house group to experience the Rock and Water program. Students earned certificates for their participation in the program which aims to build resilience and teach strategies to self-manage emotions and regulate reactions to social situations to find win-win solutions.
Students played a range of games to learn the connection between their bodies, mind and emotions. Some students gained confidence to stand
up for themselves and their beliefs while others learned how to recognise the tension in their bodies to better respond to stressful situations around them. This is presented though the lens of a growth mindset. Well done to Hall for finishing up Rock and Water for 2020.
