From the Principal Seesaw
During the course of the next week or so parents will receive an invite from
your child’s teacher requesting you to join an online platform, Seesaw.
Your invite will include unique login details. This online platform can be
accessed via your mobile phone and/or tablet through the Seesaw app
(free of charge) and will be used by students and staff to showcase some
of your child's learning. A picture of your child in action or of their learning
will continue our efforts to develop relationships and make connections
with the community, both of which are key elements of our school values.
Significantly, the pictures can also be used by parents to promote
discussion and thereby improve your child’s oral language. Oral language
plays a significant part in your child’s learning as it can provide a deeper
insight into their thoughts and strategies and also aligns with our belief that
for a child to be able to write and read about a topic, they need to be
able to talk about it. The following prompts can be used by parents to
frame your chat about the picture.
• What were you learning?
• When did you do this? • What makes you proud about this? • Were there some tricky parts to learning this (learning pit)?
As we begin our journey with using Seesaw we look forward to furthering
our endeavours to create a meaningful learning partnership between
child, parent and school.
Grade 5 Wilsons Promontory Camp We wish our Grade 5 students all the very best for their camp next week.
The students are provided with a unique opportunity to enjoy the many
wonders of the ‘Prom’. They are also immersed in the camp themes of
perseverance, resilience and relationships, which will shape the students
approach to learning and life at W.P.S.
Bass Coast Trail Fun Run Festival A big Thankyou to the parents and staff that were up and about early last
Sunday morning to assist with the registration of the competitors. A huge
effort and the willingness to help a well entrenched community event
reflected our efforts uphold the school values of Community, Relationships
and Belonging.
Quote of the week ‘What gets us into trouble is not what we don’t know… It’s what we do
know that isn't so’ - Stronger Smarter,

IN SPORT Division Swimming Last Friday 5 Wonthaggi Primary School students represented the
South Coast District at the Korumburra 50m pool. Congratulations to
all who took part and a big well done to Ella S (3rd in breaststroke)
and Zac M (1st in freestyle and 2nd in backstroke). Also,
congratulations to Zac M, Aiden H, Jarvis H and Max C on their 2nd
placing in the 11 boys 50m freestyle relay. Our fabulous 5 will now
venture to Sale to take on the best swimmers in
Gippsland. Congratulations and good luck!
Wetsuits and flippers
Our school greatly appreciates any wetsuit and flipper donations that
can assist the students in our Water Safety Program. If you have any
wetsuits or flippers at home that are no longer of use, please consider
donating them to our school.
Water Safety Days Last week, students in Grades One – 6 undertook beach awareness
days as part of our Water Safety Program (Prep students also took
part in land based activities but not in the water).
The aim of the program is to promote water confidence, safety and
swimming skills for our students. It is vital considering our proximity to
the beach.
Grade Prep – Grade 2 had their day at the beach on Friday 3rd
March at Inverloch Jetty and took part in snorkelling and survival
swimming in the fast moving currents. The students remained calm in
all activities ensuring an enjoyable and worthwhile day was had by
all.
Grade 3/4 went to Cape Paterson on Tuesday 28th February with
beautiful conditions making it enjoyable for all. The students took part
in snorkelling, survival swimming with PFD’s, boarding activities and a
land based game.
Grade 5/6 went to Inverloch Surf Beach on Monday 27th February.
The warm weather, full tide and consistent swell was a
perfect learning environment for our students who took part in surfing
and also safe swimming practices between the beach flags. Most
students returned to the water in the afternoon to gain more
experience from the water.
A big thank you to the Wonthaggi Life Saving Club, Wonthaggi
Secondary College and to our fantastic parents for their help. Without
their assistance we could not offer our students such an important
program.

Sports Teacher
From the Music Room… It has been great to work with so many
enthusiastic students over the first term. We
have been exploring chords using ukuleles
and reading musical notes using recorders.
The junior school students have been working
with chants and nursery rhymes and are now
exploring clapping games. It has been
fantastic to see such a great demand for
Billson Street Singers and we have to run two
groups because of such large numbers.
Students are taking time from their lunch to
come in and practise ukulele or to sing with
the Billson Street group. Thank you to all
grades who have been so willing to assist with
leading Song of the Week at assembly. It can
be a nervous time for students performing in
front of a large audience. Finally the Library
and Music Room spaces are working really
well and both rooms are being used regularly
by all grades.
Feel free to come in and check it out!

HARMONY DAY Dress in Orange On Friday 24th March our school will
participate in Harmony Day along side
hundreds of schools across the country. The
idea is to celebrate diversity.
For a gold coin donation, students can come
dressed in orange, which represents the
acceptance of other cultures, or they can
dress up in a cultural costume. This is an SRC
(Student Representative Council) initiative.
