WIND & FIRE Newsletter for Firefighters In-The-Wind
967 S. Ridge View Drive, Santa Maria, CA 93455
Volume 21 Issue #3 July 2013
JR – International President WFMC
Where has the time gone? Here in California
riding season is in full swing. The Fresno burn run
has come and gone. This year was great as we gave
over $19,000. The 45 riders had a great meet and
greet in Fresno thanks to Larry and Dee the Fresno
crew.
Following the run to the camp most riders
rode to Oakhurst for Jav's bbq. Another great job
this year. Rumor has it that after dinner Wind &
Fire Members could be found at the Dirty Donkey.
Seems at this point memories started to fade.
Wind & Fire MC Chapters are having burn runs
around the world. If possible you should attend one
of these events. Watch the W&FMC webpage and
calendar for more information.
Plan now for your summer rides. The Ride to
Remember; the WFMC world run during Sturgis
Bike Week; the Western Rally in Carson City
(during Street Vibration - Reno NV) to mention a
few. Contact members and chapters as you travel
across the USA. Mike May from Canada stopped by
our house while he was in California for a visit.
After we put a rear tire on his bike we tried to show
him a good time. We did lots of local riding and met
a bunch of patch holders from our area. We had
more food and beer than any normal person should
have.
My chapter; the Central-Sierra chapter is
headed to Oregon at the end of the month.
You are welcome to join us for the trip or any place
along way. This trip is a blast. We are only gone a
few days but we make lots of memories. Remember
life is all about memories. One day all you will have
is memories. The rocking chair will get old really
fast without memories.
Be sure to contact the Santa Cruz chapter for
information regarding the Western Rally. The 88
Crew has done a good job this year to make sure we
have fun. Our colors' are welcome in Carson City.
Most of you know there is great riding in the Carson
Valley area or you can just hang out at the casino.
Make your reservation now, this is a small casino
and we only have 50 rooms blocked. We can get
more when these are gone.
Don‟t wait till the last minute, these rooms will go
fast.
I want to thank those members that are
keeping an eye on eBay. Sadly we have had some
past members selling club items on eBay. Thanks
to the members that stepped in and bought these
items. Please continue let me know when you see
this, we have done a good job of tracking these
members down. Those that have sold club items are
no longer members of W&FMC.
As our great club continues to grow we need
your ideas to keep us strong. Feel free to

As I see Things.... John Bergstrom-Vice President
Well, this is going to be short and sweet, kinda. We have changed the club order form
recently so if you have any old order forms around
don't use them. You will need to download the
latest version from the website. Due to the ever
increasing postal rates to ship we have had to
charge a flat rate of 10 % on the total order. The rates went up to the point that the post office would
charge Priority Mail when we shipped one shirt and
we would be charged nearly 5 bucks just to mail
the shirt. Anyway, the 10 % will keep the club in
the black on mailing and shouldn't add much to the overall costs.
Southern Rally-- It was great weather and
riding this year for the Southern. The rally was
attended by around 50 members, still not as many
as past years but it is getting better every year. We
had great food and music at the rally site and everyone enjoyed the good food and each other's
company at the Friday Meet & Greet. Next up will
be the National Rally in Hill City, hope to see you
there.
W&F MC European Director: Eddy Styven
Wind & Fire MC Europe Newsletter input July 2013
One week since all riders returned home after the wettest European Rally so far.
This rally brought us to Southern Germany, better
known as Bavaria.
Ending, nearby Munich was the fall-out base for
Wind & Fire MC Europe from Saturday May 25 th. untill June 2 nd.
Frank, Bavarian chapter director, his lovely wife
Sandra and sons Nick & Rick, assisted by chapter
members, prepared us a great week of ridin‟, fun,
friendship and culture.
All riders on the way to Germany looked
timorous for some better weather during the ride
down South –East.
Pouring down rain, with very limited visibillity, pretty tricky conditions to participate in traffic on
German highways,………. there‟s more enjoyable
rides I‟ve been on.
Anyway, we were on the road and looking forward
for some better, dryer, warmer weather. In the
meantime we were the end of May !!!!!!!!!
Our chapter rode to Wurzburg to hit “the
Romantic Road” along medieval villages with a first
stop at Rothenburg o.d. Tauber. All safe, but frozen
and soaked. A shower, some warm food and a
couple of beers made us forget quickly.
When checking out the hotel owner warned us
for snow, the more south we were goin‟……….. he
was absolutely right, ask Lolo who came ridin‟ from
Paris 550 miles to join.
Short before arrival in Füssen, at the Austrian border, Marty from Loveland CO, slid, laid
down the bike and broke his ankle. GAME OVER !
Frank came and drove him to Munich where
Marty could spent at least a couple of days with his European and US brothers. Members from the UK,
France, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, the
Netherlands, Belgium, the USA, Hungary and
Germany made our get together the biggest sofar.
With 106 persons attending, a huge success for the
organising chapter Bavaria.
Despite the continuous rainy weather we rode
every day by Frank or Wolfy or Nick guided trip.
Pulmann city is a western style village with great
athmosphere, in true country and western style, with a US history show everybody enjoyed. Nice
backroads ridin‟ back.
A Bavarian clubhouse visit was another highlight,
as well as Nick‟s maiden roadguard trip in the
nearby Alps. Nice winding curves on excellent roads,……………in the sunshine !
Dachau, the former concentration camp was
our next day‟s destination. The visit impressed all,
and reminded me personally to the value of freedom!
The trip along the Donau river with the impressive
memorial, followed by a “Biergarten” visit for a
Wurst and Beer, was yet another great day !
With the persistent bad weather we visited Munich and the “Hofbrauhaus” in the city center
for……….one more beer and lunch !
On Friday night we were invited by Laszlo,
Hungarian chapter director, Patric and our Hungarian brothers for the 2014 European Rally
nearby Lake Balaton in Hungary.
Details and dates to be published later, but
presumably late May early June 2014.
On Saturday, all headed home again, hoping the weathergods were in a good mood !
Too bad……… soaked again.
After all the 2013 was a great event, a very wet
but undoubtedly a good organised rally.
New plans were made, old friends showed again while new members joined. W&FMC Europe is alive

Come and see us anytime, and check our website for some impressions on
www.windandfiremc.eu and detailed riding info
and events calendar.
I‟m also very please to announce the restart of
# 47 Black Devils Liège what brings the Belgian chapters to 3 again.
The Swedes also have another chapter to be formed
shortly.
Wish you all a great summer, with plenty of ridin
opportunity‟s, on undiscovered roads away from the
rain, ……………..although !
Keep the rubber down, the shiny side up, that‟s the
way it‟s supposed to be !
Greetz, Eddy Wind & Fire MC European Director
From: Evo Red Taken from Red Bull's Bulletin Bullevard: 1953
Hells Angels are as synonymous with Harley-
Davidson as they are leather jackets. When the
bikers' club was established in 1948, you only had to own a motorbike to join. By 1953, the Harley had
become the gang's trademark. "I still ride one today,
even though I don't like the brand at all," says
Sonny Barger, founding member of the Oakland,
Calif., chapter of Hells Angels. "I'd rather have a BMW ".
PS: The above brings to mind a noted bike-builder's quote - Pot Calling the Kettle Black - Jesse James in
print a few years ago quipped, "Harley riders are
dorks."
From: Wind & Fire Phoenix Chapter #113 Wind & Fire Phoenix Chapter 113 is
celebrating it's 10th year and has raised $568,000
since 2003 to support the annual Camp Courage
Burn Camp located in the cool pines of Prescott
Arizona. We raise money by selling t-shirts that we
design annually, raffles, silent auctions of donated items, hold an annual golf tournament, and a
motorcycle ride to the burn camp to present the
funds that we raise. We could not do it without
those who donate money, time, raffle items, support
or participant of our events.
We feel strongly about enriching the lives of
members of the community and the children who
attend the camp. We work throughout the year to
raise the money that we deliver to the burn camp in
June of each year. We are just getting ramped up
this year to start our main fundraising events and hope to have another banner year.
We typically underwrite the cost of the camp
which provides food and lodging for the counselors
and children. We like to purchase items that make
the children's experience of the camp more fun. In the past we have revamped the rope program,
helped out revamping the archery program,
purchased bikes, helmets, walkie talkies,
underwrite pizza night for the campers, we have
held raffles for the children, we have given each child stacking cups, do rags, kool ties, string
backpacks containing sunscreen and sun glasses
and put on an appreciation dinner for the
counselors who volunteer their time for the week
and we underwrite the cost of lunch with the
children so that the campers and bikers can spend some time together.
Every year we try and do as much for these
children as we possibly can and could not do it
without the continued support of all of our donors, sponsors and participants. We are proud of all that
our members and supporters do annually to help
enrich the lives of the children who attend this
camp and its programs. supports us. It is a truly
moving experience to be able to help these children
and our community.

our “17th Annual Kids Day Run” to Camp Ronald
McDonald in Mountain Center (Riverside County)
on Saturday, July 27, 2013. Camp Ronald
McDonald is located in the mountains east of Hemet and is a one week camp for kids that have
cancer. This will be the seventeenth year Wind &
Fire has made this ride.
For those of you that wish to come in on Friday
afternoon we will be staying at the Hampton Inn located at 3700 W. Florida Avenue in Hemet,
92545. (Florida Ave is HWY 74 as it goes through

$109 - $130 range plus $11.00 tax. All rooms are

On Friday evening we usually get together for
dinner around 1800 and walk over to a local restaurant. (In the past we have always gone to the

with us please let me know so I can give the
restaurant a head count.
The ride will leave the Hampton Inn promptly at 0900 on Saturday morning, July 27, for a two hour
leisurely ride thru the countryside, taking a break
at the CAL FIRE Anza station, then on to Mountain
Center where the Camp is located, arriving around

Chamlee at Duane.Chamlee@live.com or give me a
call at 951-313-0895.

WIND & FIRE COMPLETED RIDES & RALLY’S
Camp Janus Run: Houston Chapter
Just a short letter from Houston about Camp
Janus. We had our ride to Camp Janus on March
25. The ride up to camp was a good we ended up
with 23 bikes and around 30 riders. Like last year we we rejoined by the Sons of Texas MC. We had
lunch with the kids, gave them each a shirt with
both logos on it and them gave them a check for
$4165. This year was a low year for us.we have
some ideas for this upcoming year on getting more
money for the kiddos next year.
After we left camp we had a little meeting to
appoint the new officers. The new president is
Calvin Gadberry within his VP is Scott Nickols.
I have set up this email as the email for the
Houston President from here forward. It will be
passed from P to P. with that being said you can
put this email on the international sight. I will be
working on getting our website back up and running again. I'll let you know when I have it going
again. WindFire HouTex

Prairie Fire Chapter Burn Camp Run 2013
The Prairie Fire Chapter #129 held a Burn
Camp fundraiser on June 2nd. The weather was
perfect which has been rare so far this spring in Sioux Falls, SD. We had a great turnout and raised
enough money to send 7 kids to the Miracle Burn
Camp at Lake Okoboji, IA. The Professional
Firefighters of SD and IAFF Local 814 from Sioux
Falls donated $2600 collectively.
We were fortunate enough to have Jerry Eibert
stop by on his way back home from the Run for the
Wall ride that he had just completed. It was great
meeting Evo Red and visiting. We all wish we could
have spent more time with him but he had to keep moving.

The ride consisted of a police escort across
Sioux Falls with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue crews
stationed over some of the overpasses with their apparatus saluting the riders.
This took us to our first stop of the day with
four more stops left to go. Riders were on their own, after the first stop. The route this year was a little
over 80 miles.. We all arrived at our final
destination without an incidents or accidents.
Chapter members will be traveling to the Miracle
Burn Camp the second week of July to deliver the
check and to hang out with the campers for a day.
