place this famous institution of whichwe are all justly proud and from itsashes springs a building nw and modern and when completed with the latest conveniences and equipage willmark a new era in education in thispart of the State

Much speculation was indulged in regarding the weather on this famousday Many watched the elements almost hourly the previous day A lightrain the night beforeand continued through the early morning about noon the sun burstthrough the clouds and all began torealize that the elements were goingto look kindly upon the work and hadit not been for this rain the crowdwhich numbered about 3000 wouldhave been much larger

The early trains brought a few visitors to the town but the 10 40 and1215 brought the bulk of the intelligent crowd The Carlisle Commanderyarrived at 10 40 in full force bringingwith them the Carlisle band TheParis Commandery came in at 12 15with the Elks band which was employed by Amity Lodge of this place

A bountiful and elaborate lunch wasserved in the dining hail of the lungebuilding by the wives and daughters ofthe fraternity About 1 oclock theparade was formed in front of thelodge building and was led by DeputyGrand Marshal C W Howard of thisplace and Miss Elizabeth Veach maidof honor daughter of Past Grand Master of Carlisle followed by theCarlisle band they by the commanderies then the faculty and students bodyof Millersburg Female College

eloquence filled with profound thoughtat the same time practical and

appropriate We regret that we cannot give the address in full for it isworthy of publication At the closeof this the orders lined up and all repaired to the College grounds acrossthe street from the church where thecorner stone was laid by the Masonicfraternity with its beautiful and impressive ceremony presides over byDeputy Grand Master Veach

At the close the entire concourse accompanied by the bands and led by DrH C Burroughs sang that old famiiarhymn Jesus Lover of My Soulwhich seemed to penetrate the vaultsof heaven while all nations stood stilland the little birds in the leafy boughsoverhead closed their little beaks andlistened with rapt attention to catchthe last echoirg sounds as they passedbeyond the range of the ear in the

undulating airAfter the benediction the line of

march was again taken up and eachdivision hatted in front of the presentquarters of the Millersburg FemaleCollege where pictures were takenThe Knights Templar then escortedthe Blue Lodge to the Masonic temple where the exercises of the daywere formally concluded thus closingthe most eventful chapter in the history of MiHersburg
